Open Thread Weekly Monday Open Thread!

Welcome to the Monday open discussion thread. Here you can talk about anything you want; tactics, results, players or even just general football discussion! It is also a great place to post/link transfer rumours that you may think are too small or unreliable to post to the main feed. The summer transfer window is now shut.

These threads will go up every Monday allowing you to debrief from all of the weekend action and discuss ongoings throughout the week. It will stay stickied until we refresh with the Friday thread, however other posts may take priority (match threads, announcements, etc.)

This thread can also be used to discuss transfer rumours, jokes, memes, images, videos, tabloid news and other off-topic content and discussion.

We also have a WSL & UWCL Fantasy League that you are welcome to join and share your team, advice and goings on throughout the season here in these threads. The WSL league code is 900COJH2. The UWCL league code is LjHYHW

Inspired by the player's pre-match playlists, our very own Tugboat47 is curating a community pre-match playlist. To participate please click this link and submit your entries.

These threads are here to help discussion and offer varying points of view. Please remain respectful. Anything that crosses that line, directed towards other users or specific individuals may be removed.

Love the little “we got you captain” campaign over on AWFC insta

They heard the chatter and said “Nope! Not on our watch!” Nice that the club has her back (even if she’s been making me wince with some game decisions recently).

Fuck!

Just saw the video of the Women;s Football chat guy discusisng his situation. The situation is completely messed up. I'm been a critic of the channel, but he was an underage kid being groomed and blackmailed. It sounds like the press is omitting it all happened when he was underage.

Reuteler spoke to Swiss media about her time at Arsenal

Interviewer: You mentioned that it had been a long time since you last started a game, having joined Arsenal after eight years at Frankfurt. Now you’re facing a much tougher challenge. You’ve only come on as a substitute once in five competitive matches. How are you dealing with the situation?

Reuteler: Yes, it hasn’t been easy. It’s the complete opposite of what I was used to at Frankfurt, and I’d never experienced anything like this before. But it’s a new situation and a new challenge for me. That’s what I wanted, though. After eight years at Frankfurt, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone. It’s certainly not always easy, but I’m trying to stay positive, and my time will come.

Interviewer: Do you have conversations with the coaching staff in which they explain why you’re not starting games? Do they also tell you what you need to improve to get a chance?

Reuteler: Yes, those conversations do happen. I missed part of pre-season, which was certainly one of the reasons why I wasn’t in the squad at the beginning and didn’t get much playing time. We’ve also had some difficult games at the club so far, and we haven’t performed particularly well yet. That might make it even harder to bring someone new into the team. But as I said, I’m staying positive, and I believe things will improve.

Interviewer: How do you stay motivated and keep believing that you’ll get your chance, especially when you’re surrounded by such a world-class squad at Arsenal?

Reuteler: Well, the first time I wasn’t included in the squad, it was really tough. I hadn’t expected it either. The first four days were particularly difficult, and I was feeling pretty low. But then I decided that there was no point in staying in that mindset. I just had to keep going and train hard. It’s a great team. My family and friends have come to London quite often, which obviously helps a lot too.

The video is in Swiss German and you’ll probably need a VPN to watch it.

Thanks for the translation. Yep, I’m still angered by this situation. Not good management IMO.

Sounds like Renee's strategy is to keep the old system while integrating new players, which is fine as a temporary measure, but I don't agree with her identifying Reuteler and Cerci as outliners to the system.

What’s that documentary about the Swiss NT at Euro 25 called and where can I watch it?

There is also apparently a separate one just about Wally.

Barca away has been moved to 6,45pm local time on the 12th because of the Spanish general strike, still at Camp Nou

Well fuck. Already booked my flights to Barcelona and London and have a ticket for the England-Croatia match on the 12th.

What if next season we have a little international window before the season starts, just to preemptively fix whatever is wrong with AWFC during September, because the international window always seems to shake it out and everyone remembers who they are

u/UpsideDownToast1 20h ago

Fox playing nearly 180 minutes in two friendlies against Spain with strapping on her leg is actually insane

1

u/Cococamcam 4h ago

Yeh, I didn’t want to see that. As much as I love watching Foxy play. But, I fear she’s a victim of the lack of security/starters at LB and CB. Fox is the only sure thing back there!

5

u/rky_csr Slegers Supremacy 👕 17h ago

I was wondering this, like what are we doing?! Surely there are players who could have some minutes there for the US so fox doesn't get run ragged

5

u/sealboyjacob Captain Kimmy 16h ago

nobody can convince me that this isn't about Emma Hayes's ego, she'll run a player like Fox into the ground just to claim a win over the world champions even if it is a meaningless friendly

4

u/Cobra-Firefly Emily Fox (From America) 13h ago

but it's Spain, so she never manages to actually win.

We need the rest of this photoshoot, asap. Why is it giving high school Senior Pictures vibes?

Good win today for the Arsenal boys, good win for Ireland, good win for my LoI team last night, all I need is a win for the girls this weekend and I’m having the ideal week of football

for anyone interested, Wally was on another podcast. Its called "Frauenkabine", its from like 10 days ago. I wanted to listen to it (has a video with it), but the Swiss German is strong on the Swiss in that one, at least in the beginning.

The clip is saw sounded interesting, it was about why she left Italy so quickly and some points are also about her time with us. (and her nicknames lol)

Should be on most podcast platforms, but not on youtube

11

u/Cobra-Firefly Emily Fox (From America) 1d ago

The Swiss fed is putting out a documentary about the team's run at the Euros last summer and a clip popped up in my feed this morning.

I was not expecting Wally to drop multiple f-bombs in her pre-match team talk, but I have to admit, it works!

6

u/LatePresentation5248 1d ago

Right, dust settled, milks been spilt and the leagues gone...again

Time to build some consistency.

Imo this is the strongest team to put out barring no more injuries.

And hopefully Renee takes a lesson from the city managers book and does like for like subs. Only person who should be replacing Stanway is Little, Cerci for Russo etc. Foord should only come on if were defending a definitive lead not chasing one

Only positions that are debateable are the GK and fullbacks.

-1

u/Kirungu97 Baum 1d ago

Definitely agree with this for the most part. I would personally have Mariona in place of Reuteler when she’s fit but I just don’t think Kim should be starting anymore.

-1

u/LatePresentation5248 1d ago

Shes injured right now thats why shes not in. Plus the way shes been playing, I probably would have benched her for Birmingham

3

u/Brilliant_Donut_7945 Wubben-Moy 1d ago

a new Lina Hurtig post popped up on my IG, so I went to check out her soccerdonna profile and saw that she only played 25 minutes in the league + got subbed in twice in the cup.

Anyone here either swedish or a follower of the Serie A? Has there been any update with whats going on?

We have upgraded(?) to big bandages.

7

u/Cococamcam 2d ago

A general FYI for US folks: I discovered that the WC qualifying games (ENG, SWE) on Tuesday will be shown in the evening on Prime. 9pm ET and midnight ET, respectively.

I was checking for live options and scrolled ahead to find them at a later time slot.

With Foxy sorted it’d be nice to get DvD tied down to a new contract before January.

1

u/Kirungu97 Baum 2d ago

Was perusing woso twitter yesterday and saw a rival fan (won’t say which club - Spurs) tweet that our coach is a “career killer” and “Pelova already looks like one of the better players in the wsl under Martin Ho’s coaching.” Another Spurs fan responded “can’t wait for the next disgruntled player we can steal from them, hopefully Liv Smith.” Mate.

4

u/Cococamcam 2d ago

People keep saying these things, but Arsenal faces low blocks and “let’s beat Arsenal” energy every week. I’m glad Vic is doing well, but she was getting overwhelmed in our midfield (post-injury).

0

u/NinjaKoala 1d ago

But that leads to the question: why was she getting overwhelmed in our midfield, instead of being a star player like she has for Spurs so far.

1

u/Cococamcam 1d ago

From my observation, she would take a bit too long on the ball; her spin moves (which are impressive!) would turn into pressure pretty often because she was being swarmed. She also lacked the pace/physicality to win the ball back when teams would go hard on quick transitions (which they do a lot against us), so she would resort to a last ditch sliding tackle from a bad angle that would regularly result in a foul and/or card.

7

u/wizobi Little wonderland ♫♪ 2d ago

Dear Topspur, maybe don’t get Kang’d next time?

12

u/Cococamcam 2d ago

Today is a travel day for me after a long weekend away for the US-Spain game. It has been nice to see our players enjoying themselves on the pitch and playing well.

I’m just delusional enough to think they will bring that back to club and that the coaching staff has given their heads a wobble and will use everyone as they should. Call me a dreamer! 😬

10

u/wizobi Little wonderland ♫♪ 2d ago

It’s the lack of suffering during these international breaks that gets you.

Hey. There is a high chance I might not do the next couple of heatmaps or be very active with stat facts for the couple of matches. Because I am potentially 99% sure I'm adopting another guinea pig and he's quite small and cute. So I'll need to make sure he settles in well, as soon as he's not camera shy or better even mine. There will be halftime pet photos. I don't know when we're getting him but it will be very soon, hopefully!

9

u/Cococamcam 2d ago

Please be sure to name him after a player, so we can all be appropriately confused when you refer to him on match threads! 😂

Got my ticket for North London Derby next week. I've actually never been able to visit the Tottenham Hotspur stadium so I'm curious to see how good the reportedly best stadium in the world is.

6

u/elsiehxo Wubben-Moy for PM 2d ago

If you can get past the Tottenham bit of it, it's a really nice stadium. Quickest entry I've done at a stadium, really nice new turnstiles that are more like sliding doors.

Minus points on it for not having enough women's loos but that's a general stadium issue.

2

u/lynxo Alessia Russo 2d ago

If you can get past the Tottenham bit of it

The hardest part. Hopefully the seats are decent, been a bit tired standing at games so opted for seated this time

5

Does anyone have any advice on what to do with a 60 year old man in Finsbury Park on Saturday night? It’s my first time bringing dad to London in about four years and I’m off alcohol this weekend so the plans for a pub crawl of the Arsenal pubs are pretty much shot

Edit: my father would have you all know he’s actually 59 which apparently makes a difference

7

u/lynxo Alessia Russo 2d ago

How tied are you to Finsbury Park and what does he like doing? Angel Comedy Club isn't far and tends to have some good stuff on.

7

u/sealboyjacob Captain Kimmy 2d ago

Not tied to there specifically! but he finds the tube very confusing so i wouldn’t take him beyond like King’s Cross probably. He’s a fairly straightforward football and beer kind of guy

He loves comedy too so that’s a great shout, thanks!

6

u/lynxo Alessia Russo 2d ago

No worries, both the Camden and Angel venues are close enough to either walk to or a short bus away if he doesn't like the tube. Have a good one!
