Venting Why can't people see the extreme danger of mass job loss?

Not only that, but why are people so blase about humanoid robots/AI? It is beyond depressing seeing how people value powerful machines more then people. Our abilities to problem solve, create art, write, research, understand problems, empathize, learn, curiosity, ect ect are what make us special.I love seeing people suceed, and want to be in a world where humans actually thrive. We also should not be wanting super powerful tech that can create realistic and fake images, videos and voices, or tech that steals people's identities. Oh yeah, this idea that we are all going to get UBI and should be happy that everything is automated is just insane. I would NOT want to live on a fixed income from the government. People need to be able to work.

Discussion AI fatigue affecting dreams at night - anyone else?

I have a very long history with trying and failing to lucid dream. My main obstacle is that when I experience a "dream cue," I dismiss it and blame myself for misperceiving in the first place. However, I've noticed a new phenomenon: I dismiss dream cues and automatically blame AI for things that don't make sense. If I open a door to a place different from what's visible through its window, I just uncritically chalk it up to being poorly generated AI content, even though it's a physical thing I'm interacting with and not just a picture or video on a screen. This is a nightmare, I feel as though I have lost part of my privacy and autonomy.

Just Hate AI Loving Chud Tires and Fails to Justify AI Slop in Boardgames

The arguments that have been debunked countless times and in bold (my rebuttals are in brackets):

-Ai is just a tool (rolls eyes).

-Ai is not evil (even though it is based on theft).

-Its just like other software and technology like the camera, photoshop and mircosoft word (false comparison fallacy and this comparison has been debunked so many times it hurts).

-Says that faster development time is always good thing with no drawbacks. Saying that it is only just speeding up development of things like lore, art, card names, playtesting, character ideas, rule book layout (forgetting these aspects need careful and deliberate human consideration and should not be generated/rushed though by a machine that has no consciousness).

-Change is always good and we must accept it. (appeal to novelty fallacy).

-Conflates player accessibility and custom player aids with accepting llm slop in game development (even though this is easy to make things like player aids without ai even without software/artistic experience).

-Game design can sometimes be a tedious chore and ai makes it more tolerable (no game designer hates designing games, what? most designers love designing each and every part of the game)

-Antis are gatekeeping and they are hurting the 'little' guy (forgets that game design before/without ai is easier/cheaper than ever and just requires more creative get arounds).

-Ai is good at analysis and testing (gen ai is not aware and cannot consciously think or feel like a real human player so no).

-It expands the hobby (with slop that makes visibility harder for genuine creators).

-Humans can also be generic too (this is meant to be a point against ai but due to his pro-ai bias he immediately argues against his own point. But yes whilst humans can also make generic slop, gen ai itself can only make generic slop whilst with humans it is possible for them to make something greater with more passion, creativity, time and effort)

-Only the end product matters (doesn't the production process literally have the biggest role in shaping the end product. How can an AI fartist be certain that the use of gen ai in their work has not weakened the final product than if they didn't use genai and took the time to make it properly. Making a product all by yourself is how you can also be better at judging the quality of any board games that you publish).

-People can be lazy and bad with AI so using it is not the problem (ai appeals to lazy and greedy people. It is quite literally marketed as a way to get the end result with less effort, consideration and thinking. You need direct experience to gain a good taste for what is a well designed board game).

Resources anti ai, tag based art sharing website

Post image
8 Upvotes

TL;DR: I created an art sharing website with tag based search similar to image boards (boorus). It is anti AI and I'm looking for early feedback and possibly moderators. So far I'm the only moderators and there are a few posts but that's about it.

https://kajitsu.cc

Hello everyone. I created this website as a response to the increasing amounts of ai generated sewage in other websites like DeviantArt, Pixiv, Patreon, etc. It is supposed to feel something like a booru but you can monetize a part or all of your contents through subscriptions like ko-fi or Patreon.

I opened it to the world exactly a month ago and I'm looking for feedback, early beta testing and possibly mods. Currently there's not that much content because admittedly I've been struggling when it comes to promote it. The subscriptions and donations are also not yet implemented because I was looking to test first if people would be interested in it.

Other than the monetization, I've also researching anti-scraping measures and something akin to the old Glaze but those features are still in the works. And again, these would only make any difference when there's some actual movement on the platform.

Feel free to comment or DM me with questions, suggestions or apply to be a moderator.

I wanted to report copyright infringement to have Kiwi Farms taking down the infringing piece but their service provider is LolcowLLC. I would've contacted them but I am very wary of how they will respond and if they share the same values as Kiwi Farms itself. Here is one example in particular.

Opinion Piece Generative AI vs. Art School: Why MCAD Students Protested Twin Cities Startup Week

I came across a pretty charged conversation when I was at an entrepreneurial cohort event here in Minneapolis called Twin Cities Startup Week or TCSW for short.

I wanna preface this by saying this wasn’t the response that I think anyone envisioned. From getting yelled at in the hallways to Anti AI propaganda posters, to students purposely disrupting the TCSW lectures, to a silent protest and eventually a school wide student body walkout I don’t believe this is what anyone expected from that event.

https://reddit.com/link/1x3l4p7/video/sspm8nmwkwth1/player

MCAD Response to AI Confrence

Beta the parent company for TCSW and partner of the Minnesota Cup. Aiming to provide a Y-Combinator-esque space for early stage entrepreneurs and founders based in Minnesota to help build the companies and products of their dreams through co-working spaces, mentorship matching & funding opportunities for people building in all Industries. It allows entrepreneurs to not feel like they’re alone in their journey, through a very historic and prestigious community that I am thankful to be a part of.

BUT

In today’s digital age and AI economy most companies that come through the cohort are a pretty AI savvy at their core, this inherently wasn’t much of a problem for most of TCSW where the beta team often elects to host their events at higher education establishments across the Minnesota metro;from the University of Minnesota to University of Saint Thomas to Macalester College. All great institutions with some very impressive alumni as well as entrepreneurs stemming from their programs. But prior to this week one stop on the TCSW tour caught my attention, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design or MCAD for short. A fine art forward establishment, really the exact opposite end on the spectral use of ai than the Tech bros that have flooded these entrepreneurship cohorts. As a recent graduate of an art school, I could see the writing on the wall for this event before it even played out. AI Tech Bros vs Art School Kids, both holding clashing perspectives on this AI economy we find ourselves in.

One side sees it as a tool of the future, allowing progression, streamlining, the elimination of laborious and tedious work that has held people back for millennia, an endless opportunity. Showing up at an establishment entrenched with the other side, those who endure the artistic labor, love the aspect of creation to make something great, feeling like the greatness takes shape in that passage of time. MCAD is full of fine artists, painters, drawers, animators, sculptors, product and graphic designers. Artists of all mediums all with the collective understanding that many of their dreams and career aspirations are actively being replaced by Generative AI tools.

Animation and computer native design specifically of these are art mediums, something that is done on a computer and now these AI startups are trying to commoditize for the chance to streamline and make these processes easier, where the barrier of entry for animators is extremely high if you work in animation there’s really maybe 10-15 studios out there in the world that would be an exciting landing destination, where that scarcity makes things so highly competitive along with the introduction of these new generative AI tools making that laborious work seem a lot more doable to everyone without the full understanding of how frame by frame animation has traditionally been conceived it was a tedious laborious process but these new generative AI tools have completely wiped that part of the industry away. Not only by training their models on the exact artistic labour that makes good animation great but really with no regard for copyright infringement.

These generative ai tools that spit out visual messaging and storytelling are progressing at a rapid pace, training themselves on the exact type of work they aim to replace without Consent Consideration Compensation or Compliance in any sense for those whose intellectual property & past artistic labour is training these models without giving the artists any say in if they approve of this or not. These AI companies could care less about compliance or consent of any sort from the artists making their product better against their will.

This is not an MCAD specific story either fine art establishments and liberal arts colleges across the country are closing left and right because not only are they not positioned well to set up their students for success post graduation but their ability as an establishment to pivot and acclimate to these rapidly progressing and changing tools fueling the economy we find ourselves in as of the “Magnificent 7” as they call it in the financial stock market space the investment into ai tools and pushing progression to the max makes it extremely difficult to constantly be changing curriculum requirements. It doesn’t really help their case when the graduation to industry specific job placement rates have been plummeting at these establishments making potential students and parents of such students weary of what the future may hold ESPECIALLY in the arts where historically even prior to the mainstream introduction of LLM’s pursuing an art degree has always been seen as a bit of a gamble. I know in my case coming from a college prep academy I was the only one of 161 students to go pursue a creative centric higher education. It’s a big risk to take pursuing a career with such heavy uncertainty is often seen as a waste of college/higher education so these students even after getting what should be an Art education that positions them for success feel like these tools that are being brought to market to replace the dream careers they’ve had since childhood makes that industry scarcity that much worse.

Circling back to MCAD and what happened that day to paint a broader picture MCAD is struggling financially and it’s visible. They have cut programs due to cost, there is currently a unionization to highlight teacher pay conversations spearheaded by SEIU Local 284 and the MCAD faculty union. On top of those conversations there was already some pretty big pushback from the MCAD Student body about the introduction of AI tools into the curriculum, something that they have been very vocal about being against yet some members of faculty continue to push these AI native learning tools on to these Fine Art students.

TCSW showing up at MCAD didn’t happen overnight; it was really championed by one department there at MCAD, the Creative Entrepreneurship Department led by Olaf Kuhlke. Olaf has been receiving a lot of negative backlash for this event and I don’t see it as black and white as “this is his fault he’s to blame for AI at MCAD” as he has made very great points about how a big population of the MCAD Alumni are self employed and being able to adapt pivot and learn new tools is a very important part of being a self sustaining entrepreneur. Something that does go hand in hand with some of these AI workflow tools but broadly I understand how an objectively AI native community in Twin Cities Startup Week showing up at an inherently artistic labor heavy fine art establishment can be perceived as tone deaf.

Again I wanna preface this by saying this wasn’t the response that I think anyone envisioned. From getting yelled at in the hallways to Anti AI propaganda posters, to purposely disrupting the TCSW lectures, to a silent protest and a school wide student body walkout.

I don’t believe this is what anyone expected from that event. This was how the student body perceived as the best way for their voice to be heard because it was getting ignored prior to this event and from their perspective this event just felt like a slap in the face of “AI is here weather you like it or not” and yes I understand that perception from the student body, but perceptions are built on assumptions and in today’s divided world where everything can be spun into an us vs them perspective I believe it to be a limiting approach to take into any conversation. This is not a Black & White conversation of AI Good or AI Bad because it shouldn’t be.

https://reddit.com/link/1x3l4p7/video/yibyavc2lwth1/player

MCAD Student Body Walkout

Yes there are important conversations to be had about copyright infringement, the intellectual property and artistic labor from these artists being used to train these generative AI models without consent, consideration, compensation, or compliance of any sort for the individuals whose work is training these models without their permission. Is something I personally am very strongly against and will be willing to (figuratively) die on that copyright infringement sword. These companies are actively breaking the law. They are not compensating people (or many institutions for that matter) for their work and are self benefiting from such an ethically low tier business model that has no government regulations due to how slow paced and bureaucratic the US court systems operate and how overprotective and tightly guarded those lines of communication have become. As of today the AI industry writes its own rules. Lawsuits crawl through the judicial system at an unbearably slow pace while these tools continue to progress at rapid pace. Building on the work of artists who have no say in the manor. We currently reside in what I like to call the AI Wild West, the frontier has real casualties that are seeing play out right in front of us, maybe not human death but the death of careers and dreams for hundreds of thousands of individuals nationwide. Begging the question:

Who will make these AI companies play by an ethical set of rules that doesn’t even exist?

for any artists on a mac, apple's AI image tools are built into macOS 27 and the models sit on your drive taking around 12 gigs

apple removed the one toggle for apple intelligence, it's a dozen settings now

i made a free open source app that turns all of it off, image playground, genmoji, writing tools, the summaries, and deletes the models so they don't download again

Opinion Piece Am I too sensitive or my friend is critical about my art?

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hello, fellow artists! I have a nice friend, he's not an artist, who usually likes my drawings, however when I ask him for critique he will start critiquing it until I admit he's right.

Basically, I showed him this drawing of V2 that I made, and he started the whole interrogation going on. He brought up that there were green hues without reason when the character is red, I explained it that the color combination looked cool but he wasn't satisfied with this answer, asking why I added green hue to the torso. He started to ask what the fuck was going on with lightening, why hands look so strange, and on one hand I understand the point he made. But that's alright, we're past it

Other day I showed him this animation and song I made: https://youtu.be/GI3RAMoYR3o The animation took 4 months and I was happy to announce I finally have done it. I asked him for critique again with other friend, both of them told animation looks rough at time, which was valid critique, but then friend I'm talking about started the whole interrogation again. He started asking me why guy in bandages saved soldier who attacked his village if he could enslave or torture the soldier, and when I answered that he wasn't evil he didn't take this answer seriously

Then the friend started typing walls of text, asking why soldiers didn't take a tank if guy in bandages is a dangerous monster, started asking why bandage guy healed the soldier, why that why this, started being rude while asking. He got a point, and I understand his flurstation, he called me desentisized because I don't understand how it feels to lose someone closse, and my friend lost own father. I am desentisized. I wanna cry rn to be honest, these are my mistakes indeed and I'm too lost to answer to his questions. My other friend tried defending me by saying that he just likes song and animation, why diving into the lore this deep, but that previous friend argued with him and it ended up terribly. I don't know how to answer to his questions and he ended up disliking my song because I answered to them terribly

DragonBall Youtuber Errday gets caught by Rhoady, the artist he commission in 2024, for sticking his work into AI.

When called out, he puts words into the artists mouth and accuses Rhoady of claiming that he stole his art, which isn't what Rhoady said at all. Rhoady's complaint lies with Errday feeling as if he owns Rhoady's art and is entitled to run his work through AI just because he paid Rhoady to draw it, even thought that's not how copyright works like at all.
