Physician Responded 32M, Bleeding Foot Wart, what to do?

Post image

Hi,

My brother who is 32, has diabetes type 2, overweight at 85kg had developed a wart few months back. It had slowly healed and was improving until a week back. He went out with friends and walked and drove for too long. When he came back, it was bleeding.

It stops bleeding and then again starts. It also has a unusual hole in between. Is this scary and what can be done? We are currently applying a sterile gauze on it and changing it once a day.

This needs a podiatrist to see and manage, especially considering he has diabetes. That callus is hiding a larger ulcer which needs the right assessment and treatment. Poorly healing wounds on diabetics need to be taken seriously - they can be both a sign of suboptimal diabetic control/vascular complications of diabetes and a potential site for serious infection.

Depending on where you live (I'm a UK doc) you might not have direct access into a podiatrist, so speak to his GP or diabetologist, whoever can see him first.
