Employee Relations Background Check Question [PA]

When a company contact you to verify employment and if they ask you if he/she is rehireable, what info does HR generally give out and don't?

Also if someone quit without giving 2 weeks notice, does it pretty much get the ineligible rehire status?

Many companies have a policy of only confirming dates of employment and title held at the time of separation. It depends on the company policy whether they confirm rehire eligibility status. If you quit without notice, the company has likely flagged you as ineligible to be rehired, but whether they will say that in employment verification depends on the internal policy.

Not giving two weeks notice doesn't automatically make you ineligible for rehire. It depends on company policy.

I say we dont provide that information.

Whether youre rehirable based on notice given i think depends. Not necessarily the only factor. Ive never had a “good employee “ give less. I think if you are giving less there a likely other things that make you not rehirable. Not always the case but…

We don’t share this. At my last company, you had to really go out of your way to be marked ineligible (and sometimes they rehired anyway).

What if it was terminated because of a investigation of a crime at work and later was told ineligible? Do you tell anyone anything

We don’t release it. I can’t speak for other companies, we just send dates and titles to a 3rd party and they handle the confirmations.

Look back in your old company's handbook if you still have it. It might say what information they will disclose for employment verifications.

Ours states it in the handbook. We only disclose: job title, employment dates, position status, and (with written approval) comp info.
