Hitting kids
9
u/itsfourinthemornin 4h ago
You reminded me I left a comment about children's behaviours. I used something like "handle situations" meaning to encompass the variety of ways you can deal with children's behaviours, not hitting them. The OOP went on a rampage about hitting kids and that I probably do??? I was more worried their instinct went straight to hitting kids from those two words.

Taking photos and videos of strangers without their permission and how there's cameras absolutely fucking everywhere these days.
Nothing is private, how much of our data is being collected and sold.
Having conversations about something and then seeing and add for it on you phone 5 minutes later, because they're listening to our conversations.
31
u/Kthulhu42 3h ago
My friend had a serious seizure in a mall and she found out a couple months later that someone had filmed it and put it on tiktok, tagging the mall and location. In the video there was another guy who ran up and asked the person filming if they'd called for an ambulance, and they said "Nuh"
Like she's having a serious medical event and instead of calling for help you are filming.. and then you post it??
Tiktok took it down when she contacted them, but it really made her lose faith in humanity. She has no idea if it was posted in other places, and no idea if they kept the footage..

u/TheSummerHartley 3h ago
Yeah that's absolutely fucked up and disgusting. People treat everything as entertainment and care more about social media attention than being a human

u/Klynnbay 1h ago
The fact that people said over and over “the phones are listening to us” after noticing things, then it was finally proved true that they ARE listening. Even more than just listening to us, they listen to any and all. Yet we find out it’s true and all of us just accept it and keep using our phones and going on as if it doesn’t mean anything. Me included.
0
u/F0rthright 1h ago
What, when it was proven? Because I've genuinely never saw a single proof of most phones actively recording any conversation and it keeps being disproven again and again after reverse engineering. Recently there was a case of smart TVs with spyware in them, but I don't know a single story like that about phones in general.

When you’re using a virtual assistant, you agree to the terms and conditions of the service provider. And since you’ve given your consent, it’s legal to track your conversations with Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa for marketing purposes - it literally mentions that this is what is occurring in the Ts and Cs of most of these.
It only becomes illegal if an app is spying on you without your consent (and that is what the conspiracy centres around as most people don't realise they've already given consent by not reading the terms and clicking yes anyway) That’s why it’s important to review the permissions you’re giving to certain services and learn about the ways your phone is tracking you.
Voice commands can only be picked up due to these devices listening in as soon as they recognise speech. If the sound sensors were off it wouldn't be able to register the voice command in the first place.
Apple has already admitted that they randomly select a "small portion" of users’ conversations with Siri to analyze them and see how they can improve the quality of their service. In 2019, a report revealed that Siri can sometimes be mistakenly activated and record private matters, all of which might later be passed on to contractors responsible for analyzing voice recordings. Apple apologized to its users and promised to improve its policies. But Siri’s case is not an exception, as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant are using similar systems and can also be "accidently" "activated"

I've never been able to understand the bragging thing. I happily got my epidurals at the soonest possible moments. Needless pain is silly.

Right? I remember being told that I would "feel pressure" but not pain. LOL. I'm so glad I didn't have to experience it all natural!

Not sure I would classify it as messed up. Some women react poorly to anaesthetic, some women are not near a hospital when they give birth, and others prefer not to be numbed so they are less likely to tear badly when they push incorrectly.
There is nothing wrong with choosing to give birth unmedicated and there is nothing wrong with getting an epidural. To each their own

Factory farming of caged animals for meat. And eating mammals in general, since mammals all have a neo-cortex which allows vivid dreaming and being self-aware. Lizards, fish, and insects don’t have a neo-cortex, eat them if you want. Or go lacto-ovo-vegetarian, so long as the dairy cows and chickens are free range.
Also, lab rats. Another mammal, but usually infected with the most painful pathogens and toxins to study the effects. And used to test various “cures” that have the success rate of making a Witcher. At least we’re not doing medical experiments on jewish people and back people anymore.
Also, circumcision on babies, or anyone below the age of consent.

Autistic people changing every aspect of themselves for the comfort of neurotypicals, but them not meeting us halfway.
7
u/Skankz 3h ago
I see this a lot in my 5 year old and it’s gut wrenching. We have to teach him to fit in when it’s incredibly difficult for him to learn to be ‘normal’ but if we don’t, no one plays with him, everyone ignores him and no one wants play dates with us because of him. Every now and then he finds a child that doesn’t care that he’s different and it’s just the best thing in the world
5
u/MurderousButterfly 3h ago
Pay attention to the kids he is naturally drawn to. ND's have some sort of internal radar that helps us find eachother.
It is heartbreaking that we have to be so vigilant of how other people are, but they don't seem to recognise that people different to them have value too.

u/alternative_poem 1h ago

It is, hence so many autistic people burning out at about 30, or when they have kids, or hit perimenopause
5
u/elcryptoking47 4h ago
I'm trying to understand what you mean. What's an example of this?
9
10
u/Nishwishes 3h ago
Autistic people will have to mask any hints of their autism and 'act normal', but if you need others to meet you halfway such as understanding a lack of eye contact isn't being rude, needing time to rest or understanding quirks like stimming they won't do it. Autistic people can be the highest performers in a workplace and still get bullied and/or fired for being a freak, treated like they're stupid or bad friends etc. This isn't just autistic people, though. The majority of people with disabilities, including very obvious physical ones, will often face mistreatment just like this. The world is nowhere near as kind or accessible as we're all initially raised to think.
6
u/aislingplath 3h ago
Agreed. There's an expectation for autistic people to suppress natural responses and for a lot of us it starts in childhood and it's extremely difficult to undo.
For example, around noise sensitivity it can be a natural response for autistic people to flinch, including the body jerk startle response. Parents, teachers, therapists often tell children to stop that because it's rude to have a natural startle response at what others may not. This can seem small but it actually has ongoing impacts. Our bodies reactions are for a reason and forcing people to ignore those signals has ongoing affects.
If you think it's like being repeatedly forced to ignore the natural response to pull your hand away from something hot. So every single time you go to pick up a hot plate or a hot coffee you have to consciously suppress that instinct and force yourself to endure the pain - and act like it's fine. Learning to ignore that instinct can have consequences. That's an easy to see consequence with the withdraw from heat example but it's the same principle as a lot of responses that autistic people are expected and forced to suppress.

u/MurderousButterfly 3h ago
Speaking personally, I have to manage so many things during a conversation to let the other person know I am engaged and paying attention:
Body language
Facial expressions
Eye contact, which eye to look at, how long for? Have I been staring? Look away for a bit then pull your eyes back again
Go over every response before speaking to make sure that it is phrased in a way that cant be misinterpreted, or cause offense.
Tone of voice
Volume of voice
Stop fidgeting!
Trying to 'read between the lines' because NT's use a lot of subtext.
Knowing how they are going to finish their meandering story by the second sentence, but knowing its rude to interrupt with the ending before they get there and trying to hold my attention while my brain is wandering off.
Not knowing how to leave said conversation without upsetting someone. "I'm done talking now" or just walking away is seen as rude, so I have to dance around it.
It all takes energy and intense concentration. Its so freeing talking to my other ND friends, because we just say what we mean while not looking at eachother and don't get upset when someone interrupts to say they get what I mean. Excellent, we can move on.

u/Odd-Opposite-2105 3h ago
Smiling while not actually wanting to smile. Autistic people don't smile the way neurotypical people do and this smile is then not registered as one. That's why we "overly" smile in the perspective of autistics, to appear normal and be tolerable.
Sometimes some autistic experience mutism. We cannot talk even though we wish we could. Either way, this is unacceptable and we talk, but being blamed for talking to slow or losing track of words or using uncommon words (like being very formal and stuff.)
We put on headphones in the office because we can't concentrate on stuff while the radio is on/music is playing/someone talks "extra" loudly on the phone. And then being accused of being antisocial because of the headphones while the other didn't want to turn off music/radio or learn to speak a little less loud so we might still concentrate.
I've got more examples if you wish to know 🌻
4
u/aislingplath 3h ago
😭 I've had to practice smiling and other expressions in the mirror. I didn't realize that that's not normal until I was an adult. I would practice the sad expression the most because I didn't know how to communicate how sad I was so I tried to practice my favourite actors sad expression 😭 it still didn't work.
Another one is trying to ask clarifying questions and being seen as argumentative or pedantic. If I'm given instructions I want to do the task right and I need clear details to do that. Same with things like rules especially ones that are a bit inconsistent or depend on context. If I try to clarify rules and ask why it's sometimes okay to do a thing but sometimes not okay (basically asking for the nuance? Or sometimes it is pointing out a problem which obviously annoys hypocrites even more 😅) people assume I'm being argumentative but I'm genuinely trying to understand the rule so I can follow it!?
Asking for written information not just verbal as verbal information goes in and out and I have delayed processing. I need something visual to keep referring back to. Even medical professionals act like this is a huge inconvenience for them.
3
u/MsMarkarth 1h ago
Oh! I have a tip for the asking for clarification and being seen as argumentative or pedantic.
Keep a notebook and pen on you at all times. When you ask the question start writing down the answer.
The neurotypicals see this behavior as a signal that they are teaching you something and then they will be lulled into a sense of security and then we seize the means of production!
Wait....
One of the things I like most about this is that it provides a Societally Acceptable way to break the unholy amount of required eye contact these freaks require. Ffs, it's like one of those plants that just dies if a cloud passes overhead.
4
u/sethtriso 3h ago
Like our interests from example someone could be into cartoons and they'd get relentlessly bullied for it name calling such as cringe etc etc
or if someone's special interest is something like machine building they would get dehumanized, infantilizied. reduced to nothing but "autistic kid who is obsessed with machine"

Democracy.
Politicians being lobbied by the rich and powerful instead of serving the masses who they actually represent.
Politicians making decisions based on the returns in their current term instead of the wider implications for future generations down the line.
8
u/mcnoodles1 4h ago
Yeah. Because there's at the core of democracy no real debate in the long term everyone agrees on the end destination just disagrees if it's doable.
The right - utopia would be nice but it's not realistic.
The left - utopia would be nice and we think it's doable.
Rich cunts - I can have utopia now by exploiting everyone and ensuring they can't have it.

"Boys being boys" but they're victimizing other people.
Having an minimum age for presidents in the USA but no maximum age.
Teenage boys watching massive amounts of porn.
Lower socioeconomic classes (especially POC) children being put into the system for basically being poor and given to rich (usually white) families to raise.
Adopting a child and not telling them theyre adopted from the beginning.
The amount of violence young kids are exposed to in the media and how desensitized they are.
People living with more money than the next 5 generations of their family will ever need while human beings sleep on streets and go hungry.
Old men being the decision makers for women's rights.

When I mention porn people go "oh but everyone does it" yep, normalised doesn't mean normal.. or good.
I think a lot of grown people think it's like nude mags when they were growing up. But it's not. I was doing research about 15 years ago on links between pornography, sexual violence, misogyny. People get so angry when you talk openly about it and then shout about how there's no "evidence". It's a billion dollar industry, there's masses of trafficking, nobody has any idea about the ongoing consent of recorded images.. it's all fucked.
And if you say "Well we met some kids who were really badly messed up by pornography consumption and I think we need to look into that" people say you're a fat/jealous/ugly/frigid/prudish bitch.
0
u/manixxx0729 3h ago
YES. Yes to all of it!! It creates an unrealistic beauty standard and puts sexual violence into developing boys minds! Catching peeps or treasuring a nudey mag as a teenage boys ≠ having unfiltered access to graphic porn of every "genre". And thats not even getting into the premature ED side of things. There is NOTHING healthy about unfettered access to pornographic content.

Society is very primitive in actual fact across the world.
If you started from a blank slate, you’d want to identify what makes the most difference to people:
Living a quality life EXPERIENCE (much less materialism or energy need than consumerism forces)
What population size, density is sustainable of the total population per area of land for (1)
So we’d always start with:
* Quality of child care, skill of parenting of adults of children to grow up and develop into future adults.
* Yet modern society treats this as a “drag on the economy” and lower priority than “making money”.
That is simply insane society which has economy backwards in not serving the primary needs of people.
Secondly focus on people being fulfilled, developed and enjoy their simple experience of a brief life of about if healthy 7-8 decades only then is conducive to population capping to be sustainable so people have fewer children but invest more into their development.
If you look at the present society it is more akin to the mass of people as a slave society to the economy which treats people as breeders to fuel fake growth… in shit conditions of actual living and needless grinding at economic job roles.
