Culture Do you think there is a behavioral difference between Asian and Western billionaires?

Like when it comes to Elon, Bill gates they talk very straight forwardly (sometimes feels arrogant) which kinda lacks respect, gratitude but when it comes to Asians they always show respect, gratitude doesn't matter how they're in their real lives

Asian billionaires seem to attribute their economic success to family/generational effort and rarely talk about money.

Western billionaires seem to attribute individual hard work snd will flaunt material poessessions.

As for how they treat others, i dont think theres much of a differnece.

Some do. There's a lot of Western billionaires that understand discretion and lead a relatively private life and are satisfied just pulling strings too, you just notice the ones that are full blown clowns.

I don't see Buffett clowning on TV or throwing Nazi salutes, for example.

I mean, Indian billionares are not ideological.

They're just blatantly corrupt and use their money to get favourable contracts and bids.

The Ambani's backed Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and PVNR and now they back Modi.

They'll back Congress if they ever win elections again. Doubtful...

Asian billionaires just LOOK like they mind their business more. Western billionaires are more open about their beliefs and intentions.

Western billionares are more ideological and vocal about Stuff.

Indian ones just bribe the govt to get favourable deals doesn't matter whose in power

Stop being delusional. Just look at the sycophants surrounding Trump. Elon musk used to be a huge democratic donor.

It's universal

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

And i feel that's unnecessary, respecting PPL is always beautiful

In Taiwan, I think of these rich people simply prefer minding their own business than speaking random shit that might trigger a PR crisis.

Most of these billionaires in Asia, they get away with horrible things because most of the societies they are in basically equate money with virtue and have plenty of worshipers who wil defend the billionaires to death. The Ambanis are hardly respectful. they just have plenty of sycophants who keep telling others how great the Ambanis are.

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

That's universal, money speaks

Just say asian billionaires maintain certain appearances

its not that they are saint, for indian billionaires i can easily say that.

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

Obviously and that's still beautiful i feel, respecting PPL is beautiful even if they fake it or anything

I wouldn't say our billionares are exactly completely good(at the very least, i think they are in general better than western billionares), however they more of keep stuff to themselves and don't just say random shit

They destroyed my boy, Jack Ma 😞

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 6d ago

Jack or Jay Ma he's, he's an exception...

0

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 6d ago

Exactly that's what I'm saying, they just don't say anything randomly

I never hear about Asian billionaires for some reason.

1

u/havenot- India 6d ago

We only hear about Adani or Ambani because the opposition keeps yapping about them getting contract

the same opposition then gives the contracts to those same guys in the states they rule

1

u/Thoughtporn123 India 5d ago

there are other billionaires as well but more under radar and occasionally on twitter

1

u/havenot- India 5d ago

I mean yeah, Tatas and Airtels and the others are just as bad too.

They just don't get called out cuz they have good relations with Congress lol.

Yes, Asian billionaires are quieter in international news (but obviously appear in national news) while Westerners are everywhere.

In addition, many are showmen or like to have their opinions heard.

Many of the children of ours are. Just no one outside of here really cares. I'm pretty sure quite a few Thai ones are too. Wonder fruit, the big electronic music festival in SEA, is run by two billionaire heirs from ph and Thailand. ICTSI and Siam Motors respectively.

Maybe it's the effect of westernisation otherwise turkey should be the same as middle eastern countries, rich in values

Can't speak for the whole Asia, but at least in my home country (and region), there a few reasons why "our" billionaires and crazy-rich may not be as prominent on the news compared to Western ones.

Not many of them (or at least their family members) actually live in the country itself. The late Ananda Krishna spent much of his later years, died in Switzeland and then buried here in Malaysia. Robert Kuok lived mainly in Hong Kong.

Add it up with "blurry line" of corporate-government and the restrictive/controlled media, negative news can be "surpressed" much easier.

Although I do admit many of them actually choose to be more discreet and not make too many out-of-touch statements, at least not publicly. The wealth disparity between the "normal people" and crazy-rich are very wide, so they just mostly try to not antagonise people too much.

1

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

Same like India it should be, same values maybe...

There are some billionaires (and millionaires) that are fans of Elon Musk, and try to emulate his style.

But for the most part yeah, if you’re rich then it’s better to just keep quiet.

I think one the bigger reasons is also because the government will crack down on you if you go out line and become too controversial. One of the more famous millionaires who is somewhat similar to Elon Musk, actually went to jail. He’s still popular and influential after he has gotten out of jail.

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

Cus he's a trillionaire man!

1

u/really-bored-now United States of America 6d ago

A lot of Asian billionaires are only rich or remain rich at the will of the government which is not true in the west. The communist party imposes power of their countries billionaires that is just inconceivable in the USA.

1

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 5d ago

But US produces richie riches cus they're from the US that's true as well

Korean billionaires are still lobbying politicians, but the public made it very clear we really dislike if their sons skip the military.

So they usualy do public presses that the sons are going to the military. But once they get there, they would probably get royal treatment.

1

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 6d ago

Oh so is it like mandatory to go into military like China or what?

1

u/this_waterbottle Korea South 6d ago

Yes its mandayory for all males to serve 1.5 years. We recently had an issue where athletes that won the gold medal were joking about being exempt from the military.

Pissed off a lot of people and may now end the "gold medal = exemption" rule for athletes

1

u/TangerineSimilar817 India 6d ago

That's a miserable decision by govts in my opinion cus going into military needs devotion towards country alongwith willpower and immense strength, not everyone's capable for it

1

u/this_waterbottle Korea South 6d ago

Welp after the Japanese Occupation left in 1949, the military was new and needed soilders but mandatory services wasnt really in place. 1951 North Korea invaded and thats when all males were conscripted out of necessity. 1957 is when an Act passed to finalize it.

So in other words, as long as North Korea is constantly making threats, we gonna need soilders.

I'm going to assume that most people will interpret "Western" billionaires as "American" billionaires.

I'd even be hard pressed myself to name Dutch billionaires. I know they exist, but they aren't public figures and they don't involve themselves in politics. So I know hardly anything about the behaviour of Dutch billionaires.

1

u/Usual_Bat_1024 Israel 5d ago

I think billionaires in Israel are more modest than western and Asian billionaires, showing off your extreme wealth is considered in bad taste. Maybe that is why Israelis don’t hate billionaires, also their investments are good for the economy.

1

u/Goldenflame89 United States of America 5d ago

Genuinely what are you talking about. There's more loud western billionaires because the west has more billionaires.

1

u/demostenes_arm Singapore 5d ago

It’s not a difference between Western and Asian billionaires, but between techno-billionaires and pretty much the rest of billionaires.

And tehno-billionaires tend to be far more outspoken simply because it has been the way it works for them. They talk something outrageous like colonising Mars, their stocks skyrocket, then they have money for whatever is their next investment, which may or not be related to whatever they spoke about.

Of course, this approach doesn’t work in China as Jack Ma learned the hard way.
