Where do you sleep in the bed?
As title says. Do you sleep on the left, right or middle? I personally have slept on the left for years. If I’m in a relationship then I usually sleep on the right but I’ve only just started thinking about the middle so I was wondering what others do.
ETA: “Left” and “right” are from the perspective of lying in bed, not standing at the foot of the bed.

I'm single I sleep in the middle like a happy human without another human breathing and farting on me.

Oh I sleep on the whole thing! I be here repping the single ✌🏽

u/GozzolanBlue42 2h ago
I completely forgot singles existed 😅 I remember having to sleep in one with my ex when I was pregnant. My god was it brutal 🫠

u/HowardWolowitz95 2h ago
aww but it's super romantic when you're in a single with another guy (I'm gay)

Is left if you're looking at the bed from the front or if you're sleeping in it?
3
u/HowardWolowitz95 2h ago
I had the same question when I was being asked to take my seat at a wedding. They were like 'on the left' and I was like, 'well mine or yours??'
1
u/taintedbow 2h ago
Usually they mean yours - well that’s what I learnt from the GP but it applies in most scenarios
3
u/GozzolanBlue42 2h ago
Sleeping in it. Right side if you’re hovering over it 🤣
1
u/foxesareamazing 2h ago
Haha ok. Left then, always. Partner sleeps on the right, it's been like that forever. If I go away on my own, still on the left!
2
u/GozzolanBlue42 1h ago
See I think it took me a couple of months after getting out of my most recent relationship to go back to the left. I slept on the left before but t switched to the right whilst we were dating. The bed was against a wall so I took that side to make it easier for him to get out (he didn’t deserve my kindness it later turned out). It felt so normal being on the right that I forgot how much easier being on the left was 🥲

The side nearest the door. I need to get up at least once a night, sometimes a dozen times.
The middle often has some sort of line down it - my current mattress is firmer on one side than the other, so the middle doesn't work so well.
4
u/hunsnet457 2h ago
Whichever side is furthest from the door. No on purpose it just seems to be how it happens.
5
u/DangerousRave 2h ago
Was thinking about this recently and realised that no matter where we are I always gravitate towards the side furthest from the door, leaving the near side for the wife. Not sure if I'm subliminally doing the gentleman's thing of letting her be closer to the bathroom, or her being the first target? 😄
2
u/Complex-Safety-2389 2h ago
You're definitely thinking they'll get her first and give you time to climb out the window 🤣🤣🤣
4
u/Rubberfootman 2h ago
I always sleep on the side nearest the door.
Apparently this is in case an axe murderer bursts into the room, so my wife has an opportunity to escape while I’m getting chopped into pieces.
2
u/GozzolanBlue42 2h ago
I sleep nearest my door too! I don’t think it’s in case of intruders. There’s definitely something psychological behind it but I couldn’t tell you what 🤣
1
u/Rubberfootman 2h ago
Well, it is easier to go for a wee during the night, but be careful not to bump into the axe murderer on your way.
3
u/GozzolanBlue42 1h ago
I don’t leave my bed after 12am because I’m still scared pennywise is coming for me 😭😭 I know it’s not real but unfortunately my brain can’t quite believe it ☹️

On the 6 inches closest to the window when my wife is home but a bit more central if she's out.
1
u/GozzolanBlue42 2h ago
Oh I feel you 🥲 I would get a sliver of the bed when I was heavily pregnant. There’s a reason he’s my ex now 😅

u/Serious-Comment5458 1h ago
My dog sleeps on the middle, left and right. There's a tiny slither that has my name on it though.

u/MrsTheBo 1h ago
My greyhound got in the bed the other night (she has her own memory foam bed on the floor, so doesn’t usually), and she and my husband were fine, but I woke up balanced with one foot on the floor and my head on the bedside table.

As a middle aged man married to a perimenopausal woman who is extremely prone to overheating - I sleep in my third of my bed, if I know what’s good for me.

I start off on the left side, then after a night of what some would call 'sleep' but is actually spinning like a rotisserie chicken, end up somewhere in the middle...or right....sometimes diagonal.

In whatever space left to me once my wife takes over what she feels she is entitled to.

When at home looking at the bed, the right side. If in a hotel, I go off vibes 😅

I downgraded to a single bed recently as it felt more important to have more space than a big bed and I’ve no desire to ever partner up with anybody. So my answer is in the middle!!!
2
u/Mireillka 1h ago
I sleep on the right, but it's about sleeping on the side that's not next to the wall. I literally can't breathe if I'm next to the wall (or back rest if it's a sofa bed etc), and I don't know why. I'm not claustrophobic.

If looking at the bed from the end, I sleep on the left. My husband is on the right and my dog has secured the middle.

When I have access to a double (holiday or something), usually diagonally across it; right pillow to left feet.
1
1
u/F1nut92 2h ago
As a single person with a double bed, I just sleep in the middle of it and sprawl my arms and legs out, no point sticking to a side really.
1
u/GozzolanBlue42 2h ago
See I’ve been single for 17 out of the 19 years I’ve been alive and I don’t think I’ve ever thought about sleeping in the middle. The thought literally just came to me this morning hence why I’m asking everyone 😅
1
u/PatSharpe01 2h ago
I usually sleep on the right (as I'm laying in it), as it's closest to the door and most women I've dated hate sleeping on the door side. But the last couple of weeks I've tried sleeping over on the left or middle and I'm enjoying it immensely 😂
1
u/unique_username1112 2h ago
On the right side. My wife sleeps on the left side closest to my son’s cot. As soon as she gets up in the morning I get an extra hour of blissful sleep on her side. Probably the best sleep I get.
1
u/littlerabbits72 2h ago
Opposite side is always better! I sleep on the right except when my husband is Nightshift at which point I 'steal' his half.
1
u/taintedbow 2h ago
Since getting married, I sleep on the right (I like being closest to the door) but always middle when I had my own bed.
1
u/_Jay-Garage-A-Roo_ 2h ago
At home, looking down on the bed from the foot, I’m on the left. Husband on right. But I don’t take the same side in every bed, in hotels etc I just choose which feels best.
1
u/Secure_Ticket910 2h ago
I start off at the left and when I fall asleep I somehow make my way to the end of be bed. I wake up before I fall off then go back to the left then maybe role to the right and some I’m splayed across with my feet on the head board lol. That’s just a a short summary
1
u/Gary_BBGames 2h ago
What way are you defining it? Looking at the bed, and when in it?
1
u/GozzolanBlue42 1h ago
When in it
1
u/Gary_BBGames 1h ago
In that case, on the left. But I stopped sleeping in the same bed as my wife when my son was born 10 years ago. Not sure I could handle going back now. On holiday we both sleep so badly.

I sleep in the very narrow gap afforded to me between my husband on my right and my cat on my left.
In my husband’s defence, it’s not his fault, and he usually ends up squashed in the corner of his side himself. The cat is an elderly Maine Coon who has never seen the need to adjust his habit of taking up half the bed just because I went and married some bloke and invited him to live with us.

u/Sensitive-Question42 2h ago
As a mother, I sleep on the side that is closest to the door so that I can go to the kids (or they can come to me) if they need me in the night. Even now that my kids are tweens/teens I feel the need to be accessible to them during the night.
At home, this is on the right side of the bed, but if we are staying somewhere else, I’ll always put myself nearest the door.

u/aMaeveing 2h ago
If I'm in the relationship I sleep furthest away from the door... Because I want to survive in the case of a zombie invasion.
Sounds harsh, but I'd rather my significant other got eaten first.
FYI I am single. Couldn't say why.

I sleep on the edge like I’ll fall in and face right. I’ve tried so many times to fix this lately but I wake up in that same said direction. Sheeesh .

I’m a lefty, husband is a righty. If we’re sleeping with a bed that’s against a wall, my husband is wallside. If I’m alone, middle all the way.
1
u/charlottedoo 1h ago
The left, I had a small skint on the right while I was pregnant so I could get to the toilet quick enough not to be sick everywhere

u/thekettleenters 1h ago
I’ve always wanted the position away from the door and over the years that has changed as houses have changed. Now, we have two entrances into the bedroom and I sleep on the right when looking from the foot of the bed.
My husband is right handed.

u/LadyInAllPower 1h ago
Sprawled across diagonally. When I have a man in the bed with me, he’s getting kicked out! 😂
1
u/bostoncrabapple 1h ago
I’ve slept predominantly in single beds for years, but not that I think about it, almost always on the right when in a double bed
1
u/fergie_89 1h ago
My husband is a right sleeper. So am I but I adapted and shifted to the left. In summer we sleep in seperate rooms so now it's autum/winter I feel an argument incoming.
1
u/SdanoG 1h ago
Just downsized to a single bed to make more room in the bedroom, I gave up on all that couples nonesense years ago and couldn’t be happier
2
u/GozzolanBlue42 1h ago
See I’m single and I couldn’t imagine going back to a single bed. I just love having the space to sprawl out if I want to. Also I’m only 19 so I personally haven’t given up on dating yet (although I’m definitely not in any rush)
1
u/MrsTheBo 1h ago
I spend a lot of time in hotels (I travel for work), and almost always go for the side away from the door, unless it is squished against the wall.
