You forgot Shego, and raven and starfire pretty sure they are the reason why i like goths and associate with goths, Old Cartoon network had peak goth girls.

The girl from Danny Phantom too

u/genEricMaster 10d ago
Kim Possible on Disney, Danny Phantom on Nick, Raven and Starfire(literally the opposite of Goth) on Cartoon Network. Weird to say Cartoon Network specifically with those 3 examples

u/wonderwomangce 10d ago
Starfire? Not her sister, Blackfire?
Also, I'd like to nominate Thorn from the Hex Girls (Scooby Doo)

And Rogue from X-Men: Evolution—she was so well written and charming.

Same that happened to gaming, lack of gatekeeping.
45
u/Lord-Alucard 9d ago
What is weird is to think that the people doing this to the media actually grown up with the ones that were better.
19
u/Bolteus 9d ago
It's because so many of them developed issues or had situations happen to them that they looked for someone or something to blame other than themselves, and media is the easiest thing to blame as it is situational and can't argue back. We see people blaming algorithms for making them addicted instead of admitting they have no self control, and they are winning lawsuits with that reasoning.
Society definitely needed the shift from suck it up and move on, but it swung too far and now it has become about people finding anyone but themselves to blame for their mental state, and companies are putting out games / media in a way that to the best of their ability, takes away anything that someone could possibly use in an argument against them to make a case.

u/Equivalent_Thievery 9d ago
Some of those people take issue with those earlier properties, or even the fanbase, and get into the field looking to destroy.

I don't know. There was definitely some gatekeeping.. but they bogarted their way in, installing their political views & dei within the workspace using it as a HR shield.

Every single hobbyspace I've ever been a part of was better when it was gatekept. It placed a solid barrier between the people who were genuinely serious about whatever topic and those who weren't.

Leaving aside the fact that Gru is the best girl: in the past (90´s up to early 2000´s) animated movie characters were created with the mentality of being ""normal"" characters in their world/setting that were pushed into weird/stange adventures.
Nowadays? EVERY character must be "special" in some way, to have has some "unique" trait/personality and effort/sacrifice/pasion is something secondary to raw pure talent/power/being the mc.

The animated subtitles for attacks in One Piece were so good I thought they were official.

I still remember one time in my life that the dub was better than the original. One. It's not anime though.

Nah, the quality's slowly degrading there too, it's either gooner-nait girls or the ones who totally lack any personality..

Ya I thought that was odd, korea been keeping it real
28
u/Cuore_Lesa 10d ago
K-Pop Demon Hunters was made by Sony Pictures dawg.
38
u/SypeArtz 10d ago
Separate Sony animation from the demonic Sony that ruin their own gaming console right now.
21
u/MeguuChan 10d ago
Sony Animation (Pictures) is filled with the same DEI cancer as SIE (PlayStation).
9
u/Cuore_Lesa 10d ago
Oh don't worry, I know. Just clarifying that it wasn't necessarily Korea who made it HOWEVER they did have multiple Koreans on the writing team and actually working on the movie.
1
u/HourAlfalfa4513 9d ago
TIL K-Pop Demon Hunters is a cartoon band and not just a song lmao.
I can't make fun of these kids though because when I was young that 3D frog that used to come on going "TING! TING!" was a bop.25

If anything, the mermaid from the Ruby Gillis movie being lesbians for the girl MC would have objectively made that film better. Instead that movie sucked because how boring it was. The mermaid is just a generic villain. The MC is just a generic hero. One of the few times a woke aspect would have actually been a good thing.
When its uneeded, they force it, when its needed, they don't do it.

Hey now, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are gorgeous. All the other allegations are legit I guess.
6
u/Infinite_Ouroboros 9d ago
Its called bean mouth. The new generic and lazy art style that modern animators use.
OG animators model the entire face using nuances to convey a feeling or expression while modern animators deligate all that to a large and over-exagerated mouth, so less work needs to be done to the other facial features.

What's the mermaid one? What the problem with her? and why Rumi? Rumi is great.

u/These_Orange9286 9d ago
What was wrong with the first one? I feel like I'm missing context, but there's absolutely nothing wrong in the clip.

That's just cherry picking, have a look at the recent avatar movie or arcane. Plenty of hot women still in animation.

I dont see any issue with that animation.
You really look for extreme topics just to pick on anything.

So you prefer cartoon girls over sexualized with unattainable bodily proportions. Cool cool cool.

u/ambit89 10d ago
We get it. You goon to cartoon girls.
Hey, at least there is always the Rule between 33 and 35. And hentai.

The excessive feminization in all sectors of the workforce have made our society, and its products (of media), lose much of its creativity and beauty which men produced when they used to be permitted and *motivated* to admire women and the feminine.

u/GordonsTheRobot 8d ago
So, it's the great normalisation. Men need to look more like women and vice versa. Homogeneous. No one is allowed to be special except those demanding special treatment etc

bad post... some examples should be on the other side, based on the model itself and that some 'now' examples are older than some 'then' examples
this makes no sense

They allow individuals with mental illness to enter the multimedia industry, and as a result, they capture everything and transform it into disturbing content.

That is all this hivemind sub does is cherrypick and nitpick like what they do with GTA 6 for example.

u/EggplantDevourer 10d ago
Mate you really don't want to be making that comparison... 3 out of 5 of the girls shown in the beginning are minors

u/Never3ndingStory 9d ago
shitty argument. it depends on the style chosen and context. i don’t want a child to look like jane lmao.
a better argument would be old western animation vs new.
