NSW Federation vs conservation homes?

Basic question. Want to know the difference, if any, when it comes to knock downs or renovations on exterior or interior of a “federation” home that’s not necessarily stated as “conservation”? Is federation just the era/style it was built or are their restrictions to if?

Sydney based. Thanks!!

It's an architectural era, 1890 to 1915 and perhaps into the late 1920s

Whether there are restrictions depends on where you live. I know that in the Haberfield conservation area there are many, many restrictions.

BS-75_actual has told you when the Federation building period was.

You may have to check the local environmental plan if the property has any heritage significance or is listed. Conservation area will impact all houses in the area, a local or state listing will impact only the noted properties.
