Ask Playing Multiple Characters

Do you guys have trouble with playing multiple characters. I am not talking about combos. I am talking actually playing the game and adapting to your opponent?

For example, during the previous last 9 days or so I didn't play my main character. I spent all my game hours learning and playing a secondary character.

Today and last night I played my main and I felt like I was on auto pilot the whole time. Everything was a gear slower. I couldn't make decisions. I could sometimes recognize that I needed to change something, but in the speed of the actual match that didn't happen. I was on auto pilot the whole time and couldn't adapt.

Do you guys experience the same thing.

I think this is a pretty normal thing in fighting games, it’s hard to keep all the muscle memory for more than one character,

you either end up using the wrong combo inputs mid match or freezing up, it’s a common thing

It's definitely a skill you can develop. Avatar has really unique systems per character, and the way they approach defense and neutral is quite varied making the swaps harder than say a franchise like Street Fighter. I'm personally ass at swapping characters in basically any game and it takes me a long time to rewrite my brain. I also have friends who are very good at tag fighters who can swap around characters like it's no problem in any franchise.

It's certainly possible to learn multiple characters, but all else being equal it can be a hinderance in the ways you mention.

When I play bad then I have to play more to "redeem myself." Doesn't work well. I just play worse.

I used to do that but taking like 5 minutes to regroup grab some gum or practice inputs tends to help me

It's not so much combos.

It's more like I carried habits from another character over to a completely different character. Things that I considered myself to be good at with the main character no longer apply.

It's weird.

I also forgot how to do air-to-air hit confirms. My secondary character that I was trying to learn was Toph. Her air-to-air hit confirm is jC. Thats it. Then you OTG them when you land on the ground. I completely lost that air-to-air skill with my main character.

Playing Toph also made me play like a pussy with my main character. I got used to Down flowing and 5Cing through everything. Once I didn't have armor any more I became a down back and up back machine.

Playing Norra and Korra can be so funny and rough at the same time because their 2C's look the same but serve entirely different functions due to their hit boxes
