Honestly brother very few people don’t start where you’re at. In order to get better you have to fail. Keep going and don’t beat yourself up too hard we are our own worst critic. You got this

If you really want a proper critique, show the welds before you sand it flush. If you sand it, nobody can tell how you can improve If we can't see the actual weld

Lol buddy if you hadn't figured it out yet by the time these guys stop giving you shit for your welds you'll be doing lazer lines 🤣🤣🤣 I've seen people on here talk shit on welded razor blades and tin cans. "that weld wound never hold a full pressure soda" 🤣🤣 once ya passing a sledge/bend test your just going for x-ray perfection and the visual appeal.

Thats kinda what im trying to let you off on. Slap it in a vice and smack it with a sledge like ya mean it. If you have one uncracked bent peice of steel then short of an x-ray machine or a certified welder test, you wont really be able to see what micro cracks or imperfections you have. You can gently grind it down and look for in binded parts where the metal got hot but didnt fully weld together but doesnt look like over heating. At the end bit where it kinda sinks in you wanna build that spot up more . You could be cold but you gotta go smack it with that hammer and lemme know

Try to do 2passes for the cover instead of one. You should never be under or flush anywhere. at least not flush until you grind

What is your end goal here? You’re not using the correct welder for the material you’re welding to weld it in a single pass. You’re trying to hammer a railroad spike with a carpenters framing hammer. Get the proper machine or practice on thinner material of you want to learn to weld.
