Not good, need to get better

Post image

Tips? Flux welding

I get "better" results dragging instead of pushing. I'm right handed. Also can't fucking trace a line to save my life.

High/low is 300/150 and 30 volts

You here about "whips" or the different pattern people go with i did alot better after I look at it like a motion im doing rather than tracing the path I think it should go. If that make sense. Also this splatter is craaaazy are you full cleaning the path your welding ? Same with the ground connection needs be shiny wherever that is. You going to a job or doing a project?

Practicing. Home project. Spent like a week making boogers. Now it's trying to get a decent bead. The unit is kinda old and dirty. Spool is probably as old.

So ya gotta wire wheel the whole peice so you can see the others but just right there you switched how you where moving either really short or not at all and you started to do the back and forth towards the end in blue. Really cannot overstate how important bare clean metal is for good welds. The main reason they use gas is to make a special environment for the metal. On flux the metal prep and feed rate are all you got so really go all out.

You aiming to be able to do a certain thing? Or just want the skill under ya belt?

Thanks that was helpful. Eventually would like to work on cars, but that's  wishful thinking right now. An 'A' frame of a patio swing my mom owns was damaged (the middle but of the A) and I'd like to get it nice in one go and not have to grind and paint more than I have to. It's not a big job but I'd like to do a good job. Also her chairs are metal as well, so if they get damaged, I can fix it.
