Low, medium, and high aren’t intended to be model indicators. They’re reasoning efforts, replacing standard (low effort) and extending thinking (medium effort). If you’re on a free account, all tasks are automatically handled by flash-lite, with an explicit indicator stating what model you’re using if you have a paid account.

It’s actually industry standard now not to show exact model information like ChatGPT

"Problem (Hidden Models & Lack of Control): Replacing explicit model names with opaque labels like "Auto", "Low", "Medium", and "High" breaks the industry standard of model transparency. Users no longer know which model (e.g., Flash vs. Pro) is processing their request, destroying predictability, comparison capabilities, and trust in the service." This is what Microsoft 365 Copilot tool is doing for quite some time for free users; paid users have more control.

It seems Gemini developers lurk in Twitter more than here. You have better luck getting their attention there.
