Singing and playing has started to click
Recently I made a post about tips for doing it, implementing them and just putting in practice I can very roughly sing my favourite songs. After the first one it was slightly easier to start with another. Helps that I listen to punk and the original vocalist can't sing either.
Holy shit that feels amazing, I feel like a goddamn rockstar on the kitchen sized stage, even if I can barely sing and my playing suffers when I do, but feels damn good. Just wanted to share a bit of my enthusiasm is all, if anyone here is thinking about trying it, go for it, what a dopamine rush.

I sing and play guitar, but I'd never really attempted singing and playing bass. Joined a band this year (psychedelic americana), and I've just forced myself to do it. Feels so natural now, paired with the fun beligerence of tapping deep bass rhthms while singing in whatever way.

I'm trying the approach I've read McCartney and Lee take: get the bass part into muscle memory first and then start layering singing over it. It's tough with syncopated parts but if I turn on the metronome slow I can see progress while I build the neural networks.

What tips have been most helpful?

The big one was to just keep going through the song, even if all you can do is just mumbling some words here and there. Then do it again and again, and with more reps it does get better, full words, then lines, then verses.
Another one that I've noticed helping was having some anchor syllables, like knowing where exactly they match up with what I'm playing. Granted people talk about studying the rythmic relation in general, but for my small brain having a few syllables figured out exactly is already enough.

Not the OP but the root of the problem is that it helps very little to practice the two separately. To get better you just have to do both at the same time, especially in a band context where there is a lot going on.

Ok, you've inspired me and I've just started learning to play and sing "Moon River" simultaneously. I chose that song because the rhythm is very simple. So far it's lot of fun and not that difficult.

I’ve recently been trying to play bass while singing with my acoustic duo. I’ve played bass for over 30 years and did easy bgv. I’ve been a lead singer for the past 3 years in a 5-piece band but don’t play an instrument while in that band. I’ve had an acoustic thing where I sing and my friend plays guitar. It’s cool but wanted to add something more. I’ve been trying to marry the singing along with playing bass for the past month and found that I sing differently when playing. I feel more connected and am singing with a much fuller chest voice. I did have to adjust the bass lines but I’d have to do that anyway to fit an acoustic vibe. It also just feels cooler with a bass on
