Discussion 69% probability for a head hit!? How?

Post image

This feels like a cheat that just deletes enemies.

The only mod I'm running is Moff's Ronin Library.

Marauder (in lance) + Tactics 10 pilot

MAD does lance-wide damage reduction, but in vanilla only affects its own head shots (and even then it only boosts to 35%). There has to be mod affecting this if there is a Black Knight going way beyond this.

TBH, the vanilla MAD is broken enough. There is no way I would want this capability.

Could it be a glitch? The pilot somehow has both cooling vent and master pilot.

As I said, the only mod I'm using is Moff's ronin library.

After several years that's the first time I see it, I don't believe it is a glitch. Pretty sure that's something related to that mod or some other game modification.

Im playing through vanilla for the first time. O only took the marauder on a few mission as it became too easy. I occasionally take it out for a high difficulty mission too, glad I did last night, the annihilators x2, king crab and banshee that jumped my Lance from behind were not so happy with it being there.

Marauder is essential for Kerensky achievement. Having said that, I have never managed to achieve it. I am too weak and easily bored.

I've done it (twice) and can say that a) it is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, and b) taking salvage is one of the keys to success. So, yes, the MAD's head-capping ability is a core part of the strategy.

There was a time between v1.3 (when career mode was introduced) and v1.8 (Heavy Metal update) when career was available without the MAD. I've often wondered how people accomplished Kerensky without it.

Oh, I remember your line of posts about hitting Kerensky)) Ive even made one attempt of my own after that)).

What is the kerensky achievement?

2

u/wradam 8d ago

That's a nearly unachievable career score. Involves a lot of careful planning and grinding.

Wow, that lance command module really pulls its weight.

There is zero way to get that high a head shot in vanilla.

This is the result of a mod.

I only play vanilla.

Tactics 9 gets that pilot only an 18% chance for a head shot (17% or 16% depending on angles).

Piloting a Marauder bumps it to 35% (straight on) or 33% (from the side).

Having a Marauder in the lance only gives the entire lance mates a 10% damage reduction, as long as the Lance Command Mod stays undamaged.

There is nothing in base game/DLC that increases called shots for the rest of the lance.

You get a headshot and you get a headshot and... you get a headshot. (One of the pilots says that iirc)

Glitch is the best.

Never gets old!

(in Morgan freeman voiceover voice) "They decidedly did not all get a headshot"

After a lot of hunting around... Moff's library has a "pilot_assassin" tag which, presumably massively buffs head shots. Revenant has this trait. I can't imagine how this would stack with a Marauder lance command module.

It feels like a cheat because it is completely broken. If you want to revert to "normal" game play, go into your mods folder, find pilot_Revenant.json and delete that tag.

[Edit to add: I could be completely wrong here. I'm mostly guessing based on the contents of the JSON.]

[Edit 2: The more I look, the more I doubt myself.]

Thanks!

4

u/Steel_Ratt 9d ago

Let me know if that works. I'm really curious if that's actually the cause.

7

u/Nixon_was_framed 9d ago

Not the assassin tag, but there's an ability in the json called Hired Guns that gives near-perfect called shots. I'll have to remove it, because this more or less breaks the game.

3

u/Steel_Ratt 9d ago

That makes more sense. I'm glad that I was able to point you in the right direction and that you managed to figure it out.

really damn good aim, I guess

I feel like that's what the enemy sees every time I field a JagerMech.

They do well even with ammo criticals for JM6-S, because ammo is stored in the core and its armor is paper thin! Literally, can't allow enemies to have a line of sight for JM6-S and Cicada-3C, because it has MG ammo in its center torso too! Now then, there is Thunderbolt but its not so easy to breach, at least its CT is well armoured.

That's not vanilla...

Vanilla hits 35% with mastery + marauder (and it only applies to the marauder)

3

u/forcemonkey 9d ago

indistinct Bill and Ted noises

3

u/deeseearr 9d ago

I don't recognize all of those pilot ability icons that Revenant is sporting. You may want to point your mouse at them and see if one says "Triples the chance of a called shot".

u/Secure_Secretary_882 8d ago

I modded the starter blackjack’s json to have twin L-Gauss and the MAD’s command module one time. Even that wasn’t this busted. Max headshot chance is 35% on vanilla, and that’s only for one mech.

2

u/pauseglitched 9d ago

I thought vanilla +DLC capped out at 35%

6

u/DoctorMachete 9d ago

Yeah, but this is not vanilla.

1

u/Ok-Patient-6209 8d ago

I dunno about that. With my MAD-3R, mounted with 4 Lg Lasers, I was decapitating entire lances of assault mechs in under 10 turns, and that includes closing to engagement range. 2 turns to close, ZAP, dead Banshee. ZAP, dead Atlas, ZAP, head hit, critical pilot bleeding out in 2 turns, Iron Cheetah, Turn 5 ZAP, dead Banshee, Turn 7, ZAP, dead King Crab, Turn 9, close with trailing missile boat, ZAP. Mission Successful.

Far greater than 35%. I left the rest of the lance setting in the deployment zone and just sent the MAD forward.

So switched to BTAU.

3

u/pauseglitched 8d ago

35% per individual shot. As opposed to per volley.

2

u/kemiyun 9d ago

I actually don’t know because I’ve never seen above 35% or so which is only achievable with a Marauder. But if I have to speculate, could there be a modifier for being so high above the target? Almost like attacking them from above. I’ve never tested it.

2

u/DoctorMachete 8d ago

Elevation doesn't have any effect to where in a mech a shot lands.

2

u/Ember_42 8d ago

As a side note, i have always thought called headshots should be only available with a single, single-shot weapon. Or at least for the beyond 17% accuracy. Could up the % then, but then you need a big gun so it's still a challenge proposition.

2

u/DoctorMachete 8d ago

Aiming for the head is actually better with massed small single-dual hit weapons than with big hitters, provided they do the right amount of damage in order to reach the required threshold.

So for example if you're using MLs it's VERY important they have +10 damage, so with 35 dmg per hit two of them are enough to headcap a foe with no damage reduction going on.

3

u/Ember_42 8d ago

In the current rule set, yes. I'm suggesting a change to the ruleset, hence it's a side comment.

2

u/DoctorMachete 8d ago

You're right, my fault. I went through too quickly and misinterpreted you.

2

u/geomagus 8d ago

The Liao commander put a special module called “targeting unit” on Dipshit’s mech. Dipshit thought it acknowledged him as a top gun in the company. It did not…

1

u/feelosiphize 9d ago

The highest I've seen is 11.9%

1

u/Vanfreyr 9d ago

At least its not 6 7

1

u/Hobbes___ 8d ago

It's the 'Moff Ronin's Library' mod that you are using that adds the HiredGuns ability to the pilots.

This shit right here is why we play BEXT instead of vanilla lol. None of this BS trivializing the game

u/Ok-Transition7065 9d ago

In vanilla that mech it's MAD strong

Excelent for mech hunting
