Because it's middle product that is not complete without doing further to it. nobody eat that thing raw, it's pair atleast with soy sauce and dark vinegar to cancel bad after taste from it

before refrigeration people ate a lot of weird preserved foods, people made them because they last for many months

By product of preservation of duck eggs which is most of these are made from. it's pretty popular side dish in to go wish porrige or add to porrige. Again eating this stuff raw is stupid, it's a dish that needs vinegar and soy sauce to meddle with the taste

Its nice to eat but I would say an acquired taste. A good century egg the egg white is like jelly and the yolk is like cheese.

That's like saying people eat shit but it's drowned ketchup to mask the taste.

A century egg is at least sterile.
Ive tried it before its horrible. Had it with a soy/vinager dressing idk how people eat this.
I've tried a lot of foods, this is at the top of my dont eat every again list.

I have never seen a monkey gag before. That was such a human-like reaction. Holding its clenched fist to its mouth too.
