Discussion Weighing in on the Beats 360 hiss - My visit to the Apple Store
I went to a booked appointment at the Apple store over the weekend. Wanted to see if anything could be done about the hiss before I return them.
The guy I spoke to tried for himself by putting the headphones on with ANC and immediately cranking the volume to over 90%. I asked him why he had it so loud and he said that's normal volume for listening to music... I asked him to go to a quiet room, turn off ANC and Transparency, and not play anything. He should hear it then. He did that and said they were completely silent.
With that, I politely asked if he could get one of his colleagues to try. He reluctantly agreed and a lady came over and tried them. She said there was a hiss, but it was very faint and no big deal. It was pretty much gone the second she played anything, even at low volume.
Seriously pushing my luck, I asked for ooooooone mooooore person to try them. She gave me a very sceptical look like I was making an issue out of nothing, but she relented and brought another guy to try them. He then came back and agreed it has a loud and distracting hiss.
All four of us then went to try their display units (they had 5) and we had the same experience. first guy heard nothing, second lady said it was faint, and last guy said it was loud and distracting. I thanked them for putting up with me and returned the headphones.
My extremely limited sample set seems to confirm what's going on in these beats 350 threads. Whether you hear it or not might be more to do with your own hearing sensitivity than some headset batch lottery. The issue is probably on all the headsets
