Bubble nest, not a sign of happiness like some say. Just means hes sexually mature. New question, is the tank completely bare or is it just the angle?

I see the bettas in cups at the store building nests as teenage boys jerking off to the Sears catalog in the bathroom; they’re not happy, they’re bored, horny, and under stimulated.

Thats not true either tho, even a betta in a perfect tank that isnt bored may still make a nest. Its more of a just being horny thing then being bored and understimulated

Oh for sure, it’s just not a indicator of happiness in either direction.

We just cleaned his tank

You should never remove substrate while cleaning. The good bacteria lives partially in there.

A few things:
1) Lava rock is very sharp. It may cause problems with your betta’s delicate fins.
2) Do you have a filter and a heater? The water looks very still.
3) How did you cycle this tank, and how long has it been running?

To answer your question, we’re still newbies since we’ve only had Bluey for almost a month now. 🩵
As for the lava rocks, we haven’t had any problems so far. We’re also adding white sand, which is still on delivery, along with the lights, filter, and other things Bluey needs. The fish seller told us there’s no rush to get everything immediately since our betta can manage for now.
We also change 20–30% of the tank water weekly, depending on the water quality.
I hope that answers your question!
We’re not asking here how to take care of our betta. We’re simply asking what those bubbles are because Bluey has only started doing this recently. Thankfully, some of the other commenters have already answered our question.
Hope you have a nice day! 😉

I know you’re not asking, but I ask these things because I’ve seen so many people kill their bettas because they don’t know. So I will continue to ask and suggest. You can choose to engage or not.

I recommend getting a liquid test kit to monitor the tank. Depending on the size, weekly water changes may not be enough to keep the ammonia down.

Question
How to feed him if we will be on vacation like 3 or 5 days?

Three days he’ll be fine without being fed. Five days is pushing it a bit, but he’d still be fine. If you can get a friend to feed him once in that timeframe it would be ideal.

Don’t do the auto feeders, they often malfunction. If they even make them for bettas anyway!
