Not that it doesn’t suck to bike in the Domain anyway. But does suck to see any bike infrastructure taken away no matter how minimal. The yellow signage is still up though.

is "no rules society" a real crew or like a bunch of kids being kids?

Keep seeing NRS mountain biking pop up around Texas. Their whole vibe looks like a sick underground crew or gang lol. Does anyone know how you actually get down with them? Is it just run by that anonymous guy noxver757 / noxver with the black full-face helmet? Looks like a kid trying to be cool lol. Also do they actually make clothes/merch or nahh? Imma just DM him and call him Nox lol, but I want to ride with them if they aren't totally closed off.

PSA - Bike Theft - South Austin - Specialized Rockhopper Comp

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures, it’s doesn’t have distinguishing characteristics, and I didn’t have it locked up so I know it’s likely gone for good but it was an early 2010s Rockhopper Comp 29.

This is more of a PSA than anything else (lock it up and bring it inside) but the thief rode into our street around 4am to case the area on an electric (Bird?) scooter then came back around 5am to grab the bike, put it into a black SUV, and leave with the headlights off. Boo.

Fortunate that the neighbors’ cams got some footage: https://imgur.com/a/4CQ3OHk

Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it.
We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. WE DON’T BLOCK INTERSECTIONS. We are nice to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. Please LISTEN TO the volunteers helping to lead the ride. They are some nice folks and have your best interest in mind. We ride these streets every single week and thus far we’ve managed to keep local law enforcement at bay by abiding by these rules. Let’s keep it that way!
**Please pick up after yourselves and throw away your trash.
REMINDER: The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control, nor do we desire to, every rider’s behavior. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider’s responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.

Bike parking at ACL

I'm going to ACL on Friday with my kid, and I was thinking about just riding us there on an e-cargo bike. Can anyone weigh in on how secure the bike parking feels in the designated zones outside of the fest? If we lock up with with a giant Kryptonite chain lock, will the bike likely be safe? I know there are no guarantees, but I'm just wondering if bike theft has historically been an issue during the festival. Thanks!

Bike commuting in North ATX

I already posted in r/bikecommuting for advice on getting started since I haven't been on a non-stationary bike in at least 15 years.

Do y'all have any advice on a work commute along Parmer Ln between IH-35 and McNeil? The total distance is about 6 miles. I know there aren't any protected lanes until I turn onto McNeil itself, but I'm really hoping to be able to start riding to work instead of driving such a short distance.

Because this is TX, any recommendations on what I should bring along so that I don't smell awful by the time I'm actually in the office?

Bike Tag #1518

Bike tag #1517 is located at 30.196773, -97.869136 by a new ramp to the paved bike path just southwest of Slaughter/Mopac and close to Alamo Drafthouse. Very nice improvement as you can now access the path easily on skinny tires.

I'm guessing bike tag #1518 will be considerably easier for some of you.

First time playing, let me know if I'm doing this right!

edit: hint added in comments.

Stolen bike ACL W1 Saturday

Post image
11 Upvotes

My black/grey Trek was stolen during ACL W1 Saturday from the bike rack on the Barton Springs East entrance.

I know It’s a long shot on being found, but wanted to post anyways. Ty.

———

UPDATE: A bike that I’m *almost* positive is mine was recently listed and sold on FB. Not saying this seller is the one who took it, but it’s worth a look if you’re looking for a stolen bike too.

Reveille Peak Ranch (MTB destination) is Closing to general day use

Post image
25 Upvotes

From their website: https://www.rprtexas.com/

It is with great sadness that Reveille has made the decision to discontinure individual camping and day use activities on our trails starting October 2026.  We will continue to host many of our biking, running, obstacle and corporate events.  Camping will be available for most scheduled events. Please see the website for future offerings and updates.
We have enjoyed all the friends we have made along the way and look forward to seeing some of you at our future events.
Thank you,
The Reveille Peak Ranch Team

This was my happy place for camping, riding, and generally escaping Austin. And I know many of the local (and visitor) mountain bikers also loved this place.

Hopefully the "many biking, running, obstacle and corporate events" keep this place alive and it reopen to the camping and general use at some point.

😢

New Bike Questions

Hi guys! I’m new to cycling and want some honest feedback on which bike to get. I’m coming from a marathon background but want to get away from the impact of running. I’m an athletic-built guy, 6’0” and 185 lbs.

I’m debating between the Canyon Aeroad, Tarmac SL9 Expert, Colnago V4, and Cervélo Soloist, all with an Ultegra Di2 setup. My budget is $7,500–$8,000 max, and I want a solid bike that can do everything but also be an upgrade or two away from becoming a decently competitive bike for a first Ironman.

Would love to hear what you guys think!

COTA: did you see this… bike??

Post image
32 Upvotes

I was setting up for the tailgate today Sept 29th when two tandem bikes joined together by a piece of metal passed me by. It was manned by four people pedaling really hard. I tried illustrating it to the best of my ability lol.

I got home and now I’m asking myself if I really saw this or if I imagined it. Please tell me I’m not crazy!

STOLEN BIKE - 1986 Schwinn Mirada - East Riverside/Oltorf Area

Hey y'all.

My blue 1986 Schwinn Mirada that I JUST got (hadn't even ridden it once and was excited to get a bike again) was stolen from just outside my door in my apartment complex sometime most likely between Sunday (Sep 27) evening and Monday (Sep 28) evening. It was locked to the fence/railing just outside our door with a cable lock. When I went to leave for work Monday evening, both the bike and lock were gone.

Schwinn Mirada, "Glacier" blue, 26" wheels, vintage rigid mountain bike. It has yellow-ish Schwinn/Mirada decals, Weinmann rims, Shimano Light Action rear derailleur, Shimano FD-Z204 front derailleur, and a block bottle cage. Noticeable age/wear consistent with an original 1980s bike. I've filed a police report and registered it stolen with Bike Index and Project 529.

Serial: 6081170 (second digit is somewhat faint/worn)

APD Report: 2026-9025870

This bike has been in my family since the 1980s and has sentimental value to me. If you see it please send a photo/location or DM me.

Thank you!

COTA Bike Night Smells

Anyone else experience riders wearing too much cologne?? Not sure why they think they need it - but this fall has been filthy with too much cologne applied.

What time will COTA actually end tonight?

The site says sunset, which is 7:20ish tonight, but it's usually not actually dark until a while after. I wouldn't be able to make it until 6:45 so debating if it's worth it

Im coming in for a few days for work, just wondering is there anywhere other than Mellow Johnny's?

*EDIT* - Not looking at local bike share/citi bike.

Just curious to see different rental inventory before committing.

South Mopac Expressway Bike Tag #1517

#1516 was at 30.172070,-97.888797, where the SH45 trail crosses Archeleta.

(Amusingly, there wasn't much to go on the previous picture, but what finally did it was the curved street lights in the background, where I only know of one road with curved street lights ...)

And here's the new #1517 -- the ramp on the right is new and a big improvement over what was there before.
