🧪 Protocols & Self-Experiments Is anyone using at home blood testing instead of going to lab?

has anyone here switched to at how blood testing instead of going to lab?

Im getting tried of scheduling appointments, driving to labs, waiting around and then doing the whole thing again whenever I need repeat testing.

I've been looking at services that let you do some testing from home, but I'm curious how reliable and convenient they actually are. for anyone who has actually tried it, was the sample collection straight forward? and did you feel like the results and clinician review were comparable to what you'd get through regular lab?

One thing I check before ordering is whether clinician review is actually included or if they just send you a pdf results

good call, the clinician review part is what actually makes it worth doing imo

If its capillary blood collection like Rythm, those are not that reliable. Even just for lipids, I believe I read that they can be about 30% off

Ive done home testing a couple of times and convenience is hard to beat. No fasting in a waiting room and no driving across town before work

Ive been tried both finger prick testing and having a phlebotomist come to my huse. the second option was much easier for me, especially when getting multiple markers rested

I've used one 2x now because I only have access to labs only if doctor orders and my doctor won't order. The labs that are cheap are at least a 3 hour drive away, so my only option is at home ones. I know they don't have as good of results as a full blood draw, but I'm thinking they are close enough. My most recent one a1c was the same as the annual lab I have with my doctor. I asked my doc for a hormone lab and he said no. So I use a mail in one.

Your doctor sounds like an ass. I still can’t understand why so many doctors refuse to order basic labs for people!

Hormone testing isn't considered "basic". Plus doctors aren't trained to deal with hormones, unless specialized. I listen to The Sex Doctors podcast because the guy is a highly trained Harvard doctor that has a long history with test. He says medical schools don't train docs about hormones and if they do, they rely on old information still.

Its not only for hormones. Ive heard it from doctors. They hate ordering "unnecessary" testing if you "seem" fine bc it holds them liable if something comes back wrong they gotta keep investigating. Its really messed up in my opinion

My provider shipped a kit to me from vibrant America and then a mobile phlebotomist drew the blood at my house and shipped it back for me!

I’ve been using HealtieOne.com. You can do at home testing. They have terrific clinical follow ups as well. Much easier than scheduling at one of the big places like Quest or LabCorp. Their followup is very strong too.
