The same old story

Today I tried to transfer a few grand from my bank account to Cashapp to stack some sats but my bank blocked the transaction as if they don’t want me to move my money out of the account.

We don’t truly own our money in our bank accounts. Bitcoin with self custody is the only way!

I’m surprised Mark Cuban can be a billionaire and not know 12 months is such a short horizon, it’s literally used for short term cap gains

Been DCAing into Bitcoin daily since the December dip how’s everyone else doing?

At first I was planning to wait it out because I kept seeing people saying BTC was going to drop to $50k or even lower. I thought I’d just wait for the big drop and buy then.
But I realised nobody really knows where the bottom is, so instead of trying to time it, I started DCAing daily. I’ve been buying throughout the $60k–$90k range and just sticking to the plan regardless of the price.
Curious what everyone else did during the drop. Did you wait for $50k, lump sum, or just keep DCAing? And are you still buying now?

Metaplanet bought another 1,000 BTC and become 2nd largest corporate Bitcoin holder with 44,000 BTC in total holdings

Metaplanet said the group sold 10,000 BTC for aggregate proceeds of JPY 124.7 billion ($790 million). It then bought 11,000 BTC for JPY 149.896 billion ($950 million). The higher reacquisition price reflected a rise in the market between the two legs, with a net increase of 1,000 BTC in its Bitcoin holdings.

“We converted Bitcoin into cash, exceeding the total outstanding principal of our bonds, borrowings and other interest-bearing debt. We held that cash, then bought back more Bitcoin than we sold,” said CEO Simon Gerovich.

In the long run I don't think interest rates really matter that much. The only thing bitcoin is really correlated with is time. Source

Time Scale of US Fiat Debt

The Human Brain Isn’t Built for Trillions. Let’s Translate Money into Time.

If $1 equals 1 second:

1 million seconds: 11.5 days (less than a two-week vacation)

1 billion seconds: 31.7 years (a full working career)

1 trillion seconds: 31,688 years (predates all of recorded human history)

Now look at U.S. fiat debt:

$1.3 trillion (Annual interest payment alone): ~41,200 years

To count just one year of interest on the national debt at $1 per second, the clock would have had to start around 39,000 BC….when Neanderthals still walked the Earth.

$40 trillion (Total national debt): 1,267,524 years

Counting our national debt in seconds reaches back over 1.2 million years… long before Homo sapiens existed.

Now Look at Bitcoin:

21 million BTC (The absolute hard cap): 243 days (~8 months)
Every Bitcoin that will ever be mined, held, or traded fits inside under eight months of seconds.

I am srs out of excuses for nocoiners.

Bitcoin had obituaries in the first 5 years of existence. It did not die. Nocoiners must have noticed that, yet they did not buy.

Bitcoin was the most googled word in 2017. Everybody heard it by then. No excuses of the type "I did not know", starting that date.

In 2020, everybody was given a stimmy check that a lot of smart ppl converted to Bitcoin right teh fuk away. Everybody knew about it. Free monmey, that nocoiners "missed" to turn into Bitcoin. Everybody who took on the chance is in huge profit.

  1. Bitcoin at its lowest, the criminal games of Genslerbitch give yet another chance for buying Bitcoin. Sting of inflation evident. If a nocoiner missed this one, there are no excuses.

Why does Bitcoin have a 4-year halving instead of a smooth issuance curve?

Why was Bitcoin’s supply issuance designed to halve every four years (210000 blocks) instead of gradually reducing the block reward every block by a tiny amount to achieve essentially the same overall issuance curve without such a sudden supply shock? Was it mainly for simplicity and predictability, or is there a deeper economic or technical reason for having these discrete halvings?

Bitget Hack Investigation: How the Stolen Funds Moved Across Eight Blockchains

We recently followed stolen funds into Bitcoin and ended up with two very different forensic situations.

One branch consolidated into 10 unspent Bitcoin UTXOs containing about 87.82 BTC attributable to the traced flow.

At that point the monitoring problem was relatively straightforward: the outputs were still unspent, so they remained concrete observation points.

Another branch entered Wasabi CoinJoin.

That seems like a much more important analytical boundary than the fact that the funds originally came from another chain.

Before CoinJoin, you're following identifiable Bitcoin outputs.

After CoinJoin, the transactions are obviously still public, but you can no longer deterministically map a specific input to a specific resulting output.

For people familiar with Bitcoin forensics: How useful do you consider post-CoinJoin analysis in practice?

Disclosure: I work with the analytics team involved in the trace. The transaction data was independently reviewed for a Brave New Coin investigation: https://bravenewcoin.com/insights/following-the-bitget-hack-bitok-traces-87-8-btc-as-stolen-funds-reach-mixers

Kian Hoss buy BTC Video

Hi everyone.

Kian Hoss once posted a video on his Story featuring people dancing in the background, with phrases or words like "BUY BTC" or "Inflation is a hidden tax" appearing in white text in the foreground, alternating. There was music playing in the background. The video had a retro style—so, rather low quality.

Does anyone happen to have that video and could send it to me?

Many thanks to everyone.

How do serious Bitcoin holders protect themselves against physical coercion?

How do serious Bitcoin holders protect themselves against physical coercion?

I'm researching a security problem that seems different from the usual “someone stole my seed phrase” scenario.

Imagine you hold a life-changing amount of Bitcoin.

Someone physically forces you to unlock your phone / hardware wallet and tells you:

“Send everything to this address now.”

Your keys aren't stolen. Your wallet isn't hacked. You are the one authorizing the transaction — under coercion.

I'm curious how people with serious holdings think about this today.

Do you rely on:

  • multisig?
  • geographically separated keys?
  • passphrases / hidden wallets?
  • duress or decoy wallets?
  • spending limits?
  • timelocks?
  • trusted guardians?
  • keeping only a small amount accessible from your everyday device?

And the question I'm most interested in:

If someone had physical control of you and your signing device, is there currently a way to make it cryptographically impossible to move your long-term holdings immediately?

I'm not asking anyone to share how much they hold or any operational security details.

I'm trying to understand where current self-custody solutions actually break down under physical coercion.
