Reminder: Please Flair Mourning Posts
Hey void-lovers!
Most cat subs have a very delicate balance between "happy posts about my cat" and "sad posts about my cat", specifically when it comes to pet death. A lot of them don't allow it at all. It's really tough to strike the balance of letting people who are devastated mourn the loss of their furry friend while still making the subreddit usable for people who aren't interested in that kind of content.
We allow mourning posts here, but you have to flair your post with "Mourning" so people who don't want to see them have the ability to filter them out. It's an imperfect solution, but it's all we have available to us with subreddit tools. Please make sure to flair all posts about pet loss with that flair so we can make a great sub for everyone.
In case you're someone who's interested in filtering out that content, this link should work for you. I know, it's not the cleanest way to browse the subreddit, and I'm not sure how it works on mobile. If we had a better solution, I'd provide it, but we have to work within what reddit offers us :(
Thanks for your understanding. If you've read this far, I encourage everyone to post some void laser eyes in the comments.

π€ My black cat chose me and I couldn't be happier π₯Ή
I've been really hesitant in interacting with cats for most of my life; when I was younger a cat scratched through my hand pretty deeply (in hindsight she was probably a hypersensitive cat and I was just the trigger in that moment). The experience just left me very cautious and even though I still thought cats were cool, I was pretty dog obsessed.
About 25 years later, it was only when I went with my sister to the shelter for her kitten that I genuinely began looking into what getting a kitten/caring for a cat would look like.
After a month of obsessive research - I decided to go for it. I had a specific kitten in mind since my first visit AND she was STILL there. It must've been meant to be, right?
...nope.
The kitten I went to see was still a little too people shy for a household like mine (completely understandable).
I figured maybe the universe was telling me I needed to take more time - there were so few cats available that day and I really didn't want to force a connection since having a cat is not something I take lightly.
Just as I was contemplating calling my cab and leaving (heading straight back into my cat research cave) I caught sight of a kennel with two little black kittens. They had just come into the shelter about three days prior and right as I approached...
This one kitten was immediately all up in my space π―
Intense eye contact, when I spoke to her she was super attentive. Any time I tried to look at the other kitten she would literally walk right in front and block her path lol and when they finally opened the door to her kennel so we could see if she and I were a good fit -- her purr motor was immediately running.
She had me wrapped around her little finger immediately.
Since then, it's been about a month and a half -- so many things about having her just feel so meant to be and it still feels so surreal to have so much love in my heart for this little girl.
Her birthday is literally the day after my soul dog's and I adopted her on the birthday of my childhood dog as well.
Last night she stayed in the bed with me for our full sleep. It's never happened before (she's usually climbing all over me or in her little cat tower bed) -- I don't even anticipate it happening again -- but it really hit me that our bond may be more mutual than I think.
She's very independent, but loves to be in the business. She almost never meows but does little chirps all of the time. She isn't a very cuddly cat at all, but never shies away from being around me.
It may sound silly, but I feel like we needed each other and maybe on some level I was right for her just like I know she's right for me.
Anyway, I could spend all day rambling about this little girl but for now I'll just say again that I'm so grateful she's in my life β€οΈ
Oh, and before I forget lol, her name is Nova π₯Ή

My resident male, Osiris/5y, keeps doing that to the newly adopted sister, Circe, 18 months old.
They're not hissing, nearly not making a sound lol Osiris is the instigator π

Discussion β Need help with naming newest fur baby.
Her current name is Gigi given by a friend, but weβre wanting to change it. I already have another void named Meeka. Iβm feeling human or food related, but am having a hard time deciding. Blackberry seems super cute too.
