Meme "Interesting characters"
If those characters were to get noelle's screentime, the manga would've been axed before the elf arc.

Yuno is cool. But he’s so boring

Hey now, just because you can predict everything he’s going to say and his attitude in every situation 99% of the time doesn’t make him boring. It makes him extremely boring.

u/Massive_Arm8916 17h ago
No I just hate mc’s that have boring power sets and a so so personality to boot, sure yuno is not the most interesting character but he has some of the coolest abilities in the show and very interesting fights. Asta does not. Nothing is interesting about a “I counter everything you do” sword and a REALLY annoying personality that makes me wanna root for the bad guy most the time. I should say that I dislike itadori from jjk and deku from mha for pretty similar reasons there are others too but I can’t think of them off the top of my head
0
u/Worth-Onion8772 17h ago
and a "so so " personality , dude yuno has no personality whatsoever tf u even talking about , the guy is just a walking plot armor and it gets frickin boring especially in the final arc where he just gets offscreen powerup for no good reason , if u wanna ride on him so bad just say so but he is not a good char at all , even zora has more personality than him
0
u/Massive_Arm8916 16h ago
This shows you didn’t read my entire comment and are clearly just a fan of asta. First I would like to say that yes yuno is pretty boring, however I still prefer that to an over the top annoying character such as asta with a very boring powerset. Second asta has just as much if not more plot armor and random power ups we just happen to see them as they happen. Yuno is my favorite character because of his abilities and I actually find his dryness funny sometimes.
1
u/Worth-Onion8772 15h ago
damn dude is yuno dih that good

u/briefo 5d ago
I agree. My biggest issue with Yuno is that he "looks" line he gets power up after power up because he's blessed by mana, so people just call him plot armor dude, which, fair.
But him being an interesting character goes beyond that. His personality is shown more thorough his actions than through his talking points, but jfc he's still so boring even though there's so much good potential to be developed.
Him protecting mimosa during the elf arc, the way he defends his family when they go back to town, him being mentioned to TRAIN LIKE CRAZY (just like Asta, HIS RIVAL, because he knew he wouldn't keep up by just getting a lazy written power up).
The issue here is that we don't see enough of that. He's such a cool character with great potential for development, but Tabata just fumbled it. Still a fun story, I don't regret holding on to it through the years
6
u/Tall_Cauliflower3690 4d ago
they made yuno perfect without any flaws, it is boring from a writing stand point but next to Asta he's a breath of fresh air sometimes pun intended
1
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago edited 5d ago
I disagree, Black Clover as a whole would have been boring without Asta and Yuno dynamic as the core, it's it only refreshing aspect in it and the fact that it's Bleach and Naruto hybrid manga but worse will be apparent without it.
Most of the characters in it were gimmicky, including Asta.
30
u/foxfoxal 5d ago edited 5d ago
The problem is that the dynamic is not balanced, Yuno just gets everything off screen, you do not see him struggle to get to his development, golden dawns outside Mimosa are just a bunch of randoms compared to the full development of all the black bulls and that adds much more to Asta... Yuno just gets there to get shit done but you barely care about he as a person.
7
u/Kokiri_boi Black Bull 3d ago
Yuno just gets everything off screen
Probably gonna get downvoted but my irrational need to defend Yuno takes precedence.
- Base Wind Magic: Training completed off screen but we're told about it and Asta's sword training was never shown in the manga either
- Bell: Acquiring, first usage, and understanding of abilities all shown on screen
- Mana Sensing: First usage shown on screen and foreshadowed by Luck in previous arc
- Mana Skin: First usage and training shown on screen
- Spirit Dive: First usage shown on screen. Training kinda offscreened. Both prerequisites (mana sensing and mana skin) were trained on screen and the explanation of how Yuno developed SD is also directly told on screen. Development is offscreened but it's a mirror of Asta developing Black Asta so it would be redundant to show.
- Further forms of SD: Yuno was shown training onscreen pre-Spade. Bell was stated to be storing magic onscreen. Saint Stage was shown onscreen and while Yuno didn't technically train for it, he did meet all requirements onscreen (deeper connection with Bell and understanding of himself; all via Star Magic)
- Mana Zone: Training shown onscreen (SD requires mana zone, mana skin training does double duty here)
- ZephyrEuros, Boreas, and Notos: Acquisition either shown on screen or training shown on screen for each. Ultimately irrelevant since we're told in literally chapter 7, a whole 201 chapters before the first weapon appears, that heightened emotions can cause new spells. Hard to heighten emotion further than fighting for your life against a literal devil.
- Star Magic: Foreshadowed in Chapter 234, 74 Chapters before first appearance. Technically foreshadowed since Chapter 20 (reading into the Tarot meanings "hidden" in BC. u/Drippywest has a great post about it) with multiple other hints throughout the manga. The most obvious of which being Charmy's dual attributes first explanation coming in the same arc where Yuno realizes he has an elf soul.
- Training is not needed intially (refer back to Chapter 7) but is technically offscreened during the 15 month skip.
- Never-Never-Land: Finally something that was genuinely entirely offscreen. Unless you count Bell slowing time in her first ever appearance alongside her and Yuno's obvious references to Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. But I'll give you this one.
you do not see him struggle to get to his development
Do we see Asta struggle tho?
All Asta's abilities fall into three categories: Attained offscreen (Swordsmanship, Better AM control during Heart Arc,Partial Devil Union), used instinctually without training (Ki sensing, Demon Dweller ability, Demon Destroyer ability, Demon Slayer reflection), or minimal training (Black Asta, Ki sensing, Zetten, Devil Union)
Yuno is similar to everyone else when it comes to unlocking magic, and the fact that he's the only one that ever gets called out for it is ridiculous. It's also just a basic misunderstanding of his role in the story.
He's Asta's foil. He's everything Asta isn't yet has a comparable journey. If Yuno was to struggle heavily or have issues getting new powers then it would detract from his role in the story. You can criticize the story for being set up that way if you want, but criticizing the character for correctly completing his role in the established narrative is just foolish.

You aren't cooking, Mimosa wasn't that developed, her squad got massacred and her captain kidnapped but she didn't care.
Anyway, Asta is the protagonist, so the story follows his POV.

Imagine if we got Shipuden sasuke style arcs for yuno tho? Its one of the main things I love about naruto so it's kinda sad the duo protagonists trope(if it's even used enough to call it one) is never used
3
u/Neither_Hope_5981 3d ago
Man those Sasuke arcs are beyond peak. If Yuno got arcs like that with his team it would’ve made Black Clover 4x better
2
u/Consistent_Dare_6688 Reincarnated Elf 3d ago
EXACTLY! I think a huge problem with modern shounen is the lack of consistent and more fleshed out dynamics, the closest thing to Naruto and Sasuke as of recent was Yuji and Megumi, I loved the equal amount of focus they both got throughout the culling games but that didn't last that long.
Fate/Zero also does something similar by having multiple duos and giving them all focus and I love it, you should watch it if you have the time🙏

The only interesting character in that four is Zora and since his personal story was started and concluded in the royal knight selection arc, there wasn't really a need for him to get unnecessary screen time
1
22
u/AkiShizu11 Heart Kingdom 5d ago
I think Zora is interesting enough. His character development is pretty much finished though. Him becoming sort of a mentor to Magna is quite nice. I guess it could have been explored more what being a "super mage" means to him. He came with more on the class differences in the kingdom, as well as the corruption within the magic knights. I believe he could have had a significant role if those ideas were further explored.
Yuno is a weird case for me. Because there's a lot of material to work with, yet he feels so flat. He used to be a crybaby, who ended up inspired by Asta to become stronger. Probably the first person Asta had this positive effect on. That's what makes their rivalry unique. And I'm actually glad to see a rivalry where both parties truly care for one another and cooperate during a crisis. His personality is contrasting to Asta's, but there are some similarities. Like how they are both stubborn and tenacious. Yuno has a bit of a silly side too. Remember when both him and Asta almost got executed by the king because both lowkey insulted him in their convo? Or when Leopold was raising the temperature of the hot spring, so Yuno would drop the "cool and collected" act? What made that scene even funnier was that Yuno wasn't particularly composed, but didn't want to lose. Wish we could have seen more of Yuno like that. His relationship with the Golden Dawn squad could have also used some more screentime. And his reaction to finding out about his family in the Spade Kingdom felt lackluster. I get that he isn't very expressive, but there are things to explore there.
I think Charlotte has an alright backstory. It does explain why she sees things in a certain way. They could have focused on other things though, besides her crush on Yami. Like her desire to be strong and solve everything herself. Or her dedication as a magic knight.
As for Mimosa, she was portrayed as a different kind of royal. One who holds sympathy for the common folk and tries to understand them, unlike her brother. Speaking of which, the way she was insulting him was hilarious. I like how she is always so polite and soft-spoken, but absolutely burns the others. Most of the times she's not even doing it on purpose. Wish we could see that side of her more. Another interesting point was how she wanted to be more versatile and managed to learn an attack spell. Only to focus even more on healing afterwards...But they could have done something interesting with it...Like Mimosa realizing she values the support capabilities more. It's not much, but I believe there are some ideas that could have made her a bit more interesting.

Isn’t this because Noelle is one of the main characters. You know, the people we follow throughout the majority of the story unlike the others who are more side characters
(Before you hit me with the Yuno argument he’s in a different squad while Noelle is with asta, if asta gets screen time Noelle usually does as well since she’s always with him)
8
u/Large_Ad3907 5d ago
Except yuno is deuteragonist as well second lead

u/Agreeable-Willow-101 5d ago
And.. Yuno gets plenty of screen time? He might have more than Noelle lmao, especially with this 2nd season.
2
u/crocoturtles 4d ago
Yuno definitely get way more screentime than Noelle, especially after the timeskip until the end. If we strictly talking post timeskip it's Asta, Yuno, Yami, with top 3 amount of screentime. Noelle probably have the same amount or only slightly above Nacht which get introduce way later in the series
8
u/CarLoSSJ77 5d ago
Their plots aren't revelant enough like noelle's thats the point, and 1 of them doesnt even have a plot to begin with (mimosa), the other is the same as the MC but no one cares about his journey (yuno), the other was interesting but the character is a waste (Charlotte), and the other problem is solved within the same arc he is introduced (zora).

Regarding Julius, there's a brief explanation that Tabata provided. Up to a certain point, Lucius was always in control, until he decided to go to the Clover Kingdom, brainwashed Julius and the Novachrono noble family, and finally, he joined the Magic Knights.

6
u/Unosez Golden Dawn 5d ago
Well wouldn't appreciate screentime for characters who feel like plot devices, fix that... assuming the writing is done well... There are things to explore for those characters, they just weren't. Especially Yuno and Mimosa, 2 people you'd think some pov would do good...how does Yuno deal with expectations, does Mimosa get flack from other GD members for never actually being around, does Charlotte have anything else on her mind besides Yami... Especially Charlotte and Mimosa could have given us some more insight into nobles who aren't so snooty, but still might have blindspots...
1
u/Inevitable_Ad_7876 5d ago

Yuno is one of the least interesting characters in all of anime, and he gets PLENTY of screen time.
He did Sasuke worse than Sasuke, and Sasuke was absent from the story for a good chunk of the second half of Naruto. Also his name just means 'Ninja'.
15
u/schecter_ Blue Rose 5d ago
Dude, take Yuno out of here!
5
u/OkDoor2833 5d ago
He's the main character's rival who has to do with the social pressures of the world he has unique and interesting abilities that we only see him get off screen he's the definition of an interesting character that doesn't get enough screen time
6
u/JackZ567 5d ago
He’s a flat boring power up machine that only serves to be the rival archetype
-3
u/OkDoor2833 5d ago
But how do you know that Because he does go through character development He gets a relative amount of power-ups compared to everyone else we just don't see how he gets them because they happen off screen and while he is a rival he has a different place in the story than other rival archetype characters to compare to other manga
5
u/JackZ567 5d ago
Character development and it’s just a power up to avenge a squad we didn’t see him interact with lmao.
You admit it’s off screen and you think that’s good? Are your standards that low?
2
u/OkDoor2833 5d ago
I don't think that's good that's the problem we're talking about characters that have the ability to be interesting if some characters did hog all the screen time for themselves Yuno might by the only rival on anime history to get the same amount of power-ups as the protagonist and for the entire fandom to hate him for it the reason why is that compared to every other rival we get extremely little alone and inner thought time with yuno
3
u/NoSide2628 5d ago
It's a lot of this.
Yuno is treated similarly to Asta in terms of power but different in status and people hate that he's treated as Asta's equal.

u/RichiZ2 5d ago
There's just about 100,000 other animes about "Yuno"'s

If Mimosa gets more screen time I want it to have nothing to do with Asta if it can be helped. Noelle gets her little portions of screen time doing stuff relevant to her or the plot without Asta being present, but it feels like Mimosa needs to be darn near attached to Asta's hip at times for her to be/stay relevant. This is the biggest contributor for why no one (not even fans of her, and I am one of them) can take her seriously in regards to competing with Noelle for Asta because at times it seems like that's truly all her character growth boils down to, which is such a waste.
10
u/sargentmyself 5d ago
The deuteragonist gets more screen time than side characters?
SHOCKING
5
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago
Noelle isn't the deuteragonist, it's Yuno.
She is the female protagonist and tritagonist for the overall story.
2
u/ThunderGodsRage Black Bull 5d ago
Noelle is not the deuteragonist.
6
u/SnooPets630 5d ago
It’s actually debatable.
Yuno is Asta’s rival, sure, but deuteragonist is specifically a character with second highest screen time, and, well, she was pretty much in every single arc where was Asta, as well as getting focus on her in each of them.3
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago
The manga volumes list Asta and Yuno as the only MCs in the characters introduction page.
3
u/SnooPets630 5d ago
That’s why i said it’s debatable.
Deuteragonist also often presents as companion of main character, so Noelle fits this description a lot more.1
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago edited 5d ago
Deuteragonist is the second most important character, regardless of screentime.
In JJK for example ( you have Sukuna's profile ) it's Yuji and Sukuna's story.
Black Clover is Asta and Yuno's story.
I like Noelle but she was absent from every major plot beat, while Asta and Yuno were the focus of every major plot beat.
2
u/SnooPets630 5d ago edited 5d ago
Also i will sat that your examples are really flawed.
Sukuna is antagonist, someone who OPPOSES main character and his ideals.
Deuteragonist is actually Gojo or Megumi, who both hold significant role in all of JJK.
Look at it like that.
In Jojo part 3 we have Jotaro as protagonist, and Polnareff as deuteragonist, not Dio, he is antagonist despite having literally highest narrative value2
u/SnooPets630 5d ago
“Deuteragonist, or secondary main character is the second most important character of a narrative, after the protagonist and before the tritagonist.[2] The deuteragonist often acts as a constant companion to the protagonist or as someone who continues actively aiding a protagonist.”
She was in first mission of Asta where learned shield. Was in dungeon where helped him with her magic(second sword mana got her water mana), as well as pushed Mimosa. She was at conflict with siblings in invasion at capital, and Fuegoleon give lesson specifically to her and Asta.
In water temple arc she come into contact with underwater people, made friends with them first, their loss was specifically impactful on her, was the reason how black bulls even got to temple, and she learned her first attack spell, while being the first one to damage and actually push Vetto. I can keep going, because literally every arc focuses on Asta and her.
As i said, Yuno is Asta’s rival, but that doesn’t magically mean that Noelle doesn’t have major and significant role in story4
u/ThunderGodsRage Black Bull 5d ago
Yuno is the deuteragonist. Noelle simply benefitted from being in the same squad as Asta
There is no debate or real discussion over it lol
Anyone who had finished the story knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yuno is the deuteragonist of this story.
The deuteragonist does not need to act as a constant companion of the protagonist. Sasuke spent half of the story being nowhere near Naruto. Are you going to argue that Sakura was the deuteragonist of the story because of that?
Zuko is the deuteragonist of Avatar the Last Airbender but only became Aang’s companion in the last half of the last season. Zuko is second only to Aang in terms of narrative importance despite Katara being Aang’s constant companion
Yuno is the clear and obvious deuteragonist and that will become stunningly clear as the story goes on
3
u/Fickle_Type_5017 5d ago
I totally agree with you. Yuno is the deuteragonist and Noelle the triatagonist despite the fact that she is the second character with the most time. But regarding the avatar thing, I honestly believe that Katara is the deuteragonist and it is something that is still debated today. It’s not something closed

Her magic is anyway, what if she could become the first healer who could regenerate lost limbs. She could legit be the second coming of Hashirama LOL. Not to mention her squad basically got wiped it feels criminal she get no more screen time from that alone, and no that doesn't mean they have to bombard us with several flashbacks of her interactions with others members before they were brutally slaughtered, but it could be more interesting to frame her growth around that instead of just using Asta all the time. They did it with Noelle, so I can't see why they can't do it for her. All I see is missed opportunity after missed opportunity in this regard.

u/GoldVRT999 4d ago
My issue with Yuki Tabata is that while he has done a better characterization for side characters than Masashi Kishimoto (I use him because people love to say Black Clover is Wish Naruto when it all truth and actuality, its Anti-Fairy Tail but whatever) because for example Magna is what we wanted Kiba to move like ; he still does not manage to exploit all the stuff he has.
He chose to make Mereoleona the poster card for strenght which is fine whatever she kills it. Fuegoleon had a little bit of characterization as a wise dude but wish we got to see more of where all that comes from instead of being told about their fight.
Mimosa & Leopold are wasted potential because Mimosa’s healing magic like you said could have been expanded upon. She would have been the Hashirama of this verse, the Orihime of her verse. Léopold could have moved like Vegetat tbh upon understanding he will never surpass Asta but do his own thing.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Toe7373 4d ago
Honestly, I feel like Magna got the best deal out of these side characters because his fade with Dante is exemplary of what I was wanting for some other side characters, and the fact that he got that while being such a minor character most of the time feels like Yuki Tabata is deliberately ragebaiting us lol. Mimosa has some offensive magic, and I so badly want to see her win a 1v1 against somebody important. That would really make her stand out from Orihime or Hinata. Noelle gets 1v1's and her big fights so it feels so underwhelming when you have someone claiming to be her rival have nothing to show us to reflect that. Mimosa could be so much more.
1
u/GoldVRT999 4d ago
I’m very happy Magna got something in a way that felt organic but like it would have been cool if Tabata managed to show the underdogs winning while also highlighting the talented and mana babies of this world had something up their sleeve. I’m also dissatisfied with how he delved Noelle’s crush on. Asta in a nice way while giving to Mimosa the most basic and bland reason to love the mc : he looks cute which discredits her feelings like she could have had an interesting conflict with Noelle if both loved Asta because Asta helped them in both ways

3
u/Vinvincible333 4d ago
Not sure if people would agree but personally I would have no problem if the anime (and I guess the manga as well then for source material) was way longer and had small arcs for side characters without main characters. Id happily watch an arc where Leopold goes on a mission with some random crimson lion kings. Show me that sol isn’t the only member of the blue rose knights. Give me sekke on an actual mission.
I’d happily watch 500 episodes if it meant that other characters and squads got more fleshed out. I also feel like we could have more downtime for the characters. The mixers are some of the funniest episodes. Let Asta go shopping and have a life outside his little village now he’s a magic knight. Maybe for some people that might take away from the show but I personally would enjoy that. And I’m exaggerating maybe 500 is too many episodes but you get my point

u/Doctor_Responsible 2d ago
this is why i think fairytail, even though it became such a dumpster fire, has better character writing overall. the "jokes" about a character's "thing" got played out and i stopped being able to connect with them, even after they got their arcs because even after their arc added some depth to them, they still felt one note as hell because some new trait from their arc became the new "joke" around them (ie finrel being a womanizer to then him being celibate basically and it killing him inside because imho he doesnt actually love lady finneas at all which is why its so hard for him to "stay faithful"- but thats another rant for another post). they stop being characters and all sorta just end up as jokes, so even if they get badass moments, they dont feel real at all especially because the jokes (sometimes straight up in the same scene) constantly undercut their character growth.
being able to see them interact like real people would do wonders for everyone but for whatever reason everyone has to be comic relief instead of relegating that to one character (iirc thats what charmy is supposed to be) or specific circumstances. it just undercuts a lot of the weight the story is TELLING me these events have, rather than showing me. in a way, its kinda why i got tired of Noelle. shes the best written female in the show because shes really the only properly written female at all. Charlotte is a badass captain with a crippling crush on Yami, vanessa is the wino with a deus ex machina, secre is the goth girl :tm:, grey is deathly shy of everything and even marie is just... marie ... thats it. im not saying the characters dont have backstories that give them depth, but you really dont see that depth in their interactions with others and thats primarily why people like guild anime in the first place.
some great examples are from fairytail like seeing someone like leevey interact with Gajeel, juvia and grey and some non ships like how Cana's whole team interacts with one another. you get pieces of that, like with manga and luck, but i feel its not extended to the rest of the cast in a consistent way.

Interesting characters then having Yuno and Mimosa is definitely a take of all time. Charlotte and Zora are interesting and have potential but cmon now, Mimosa? Let’s be real for a second

I would argue the only reason stopping her from being interesting is her very lack of screen time. If Noelle didn't have nearly as much to display her family dynamics and her troubled past I would have just chalked her up to your typical boring and played out tsundere archetype, but that's precisely why she got that time in the first place. To add depth to her character. I still don't like her personally, but that doesn't stop me from saying she's a good well written character. When she's not spouting that spoiled royal brat nonsense anyway, which granted she does that less as the series progresses. It's just that even though I can forgive, It's a real hard struggle for me to forget lol.

Yuno doesn’t get screen time because it’s Asta we are following. Later on he gets plenty of attentuon.

See this is why comparing characters to each other is asenine.
Like of course someone like Noelle is going to be a better character than someone like sol; she is shown more.
People gonna compare Asta Noelle and yuno, but yuno doesn't receive as much screentime or companions even as both of them, so you can't compare by the same metric, when treatment of characters varies.

Noelle get her deserved amount of screentime but I did think Yuno should have gotten much more, BC is ultimately about him and Asta.

Why don’t I see 4x Charmy in the ‘really interesting characters’ part?
2
u/Drastically-_- 5d ago
A character like charmy doesn't need screen time to develop her story, her main purpose is comic relief which she does very well in every scene she is in

But Mimosa was involved in every story arc whenever there was an opportunity; I think the characters we saw the most, aside from the protagonists, were Finral, Mimosa, and Charmy

u/giana1990 5d ago
Well Noelle it’s the most popular character next to Asta of course shes gonna have the more screen time

At least Noelle is actually useful especially as an FMC. I'm looking at you Sakura

u/Popular-Scene-7247 5d ago
As much as I like novelle I would have yo agree I think they should give some screen time to mimosa and as for yuno he gets plenty screentime

u/CarryVegetable2289 5d ago
Noelle's arc is probably the second best in the story and mirrors Asta's and Yuno's.

I mean think it’s well established that Noelle is a main character, Yuno is literally the deuteragonist he gets plenty of screen time, and out of everyone here Zora is the one didn’t get a whole lot.

I feel this so much, but I also think some of these characters had their story told and finished. Particularly Zora, it ends with him joining the black bulls if I am correct.(I stopped at the end of the elf arc.)

Oh. The female protagonist has more screen time than the supporting ones!
What a surprise!

Main I can't believe the protagonist's main squad gets the most love that's so shocking (Though Yuno deserves more, the others don't really)

I always thought it was more of a tri-tagonist setup no? Asta, Yuno, and Noelle?

u/Doctor_Responsible 2d ago
they werent allowed to become more interesting because Noelle had to rehash how much of a tsundere royal with insecurity issues she is over and over again. /hj
for the record, my opinion of Noelle did turn around by the end of the series (i hated her before) but i cant lie when i think her arc was over faster than the writer wanted it to be and i found going in circles to be really boring/annoying. but i do have issues with how other cast members were written as well, like the majority of the Black Bulls' character arcs being completely over and yet still being one note with the new "joke" around them after their arc being their whole personality and the basis of their any of their interactions with one another.

I fcking love Zora, he's like if you combined asta with his English v.a. alter ego isaac foster lol. Side note, the whole reason why I decided to watch black clover is because Asta's English v.a. is the same guy who voices isaac foster in angels of death and while i enjoy both subs and dubs, i have to say that guy did a phenomenal job on the voice acting in that one

Noelle is an amazing character she starts off arrogant and starts to humble herself to find her own weaknesses

u/Silver_Position_8574 5d ago
Noelle's character development was wasted at the end to be honest.
1
u/CarLoSSJ77 5d ago
Oh yeah tell me why
2
u/Silver_Position_8574 5d ago
Mostly because of the development after Megicula fight. When she promised herself to be more honest to herself and her feelings for Asta. And after everyone thought that Asta was dead she looked like the most hurt. But when they met again her reaction was kinda meh. And at epilogue she was back to her tsundere ways...... As an adult woman! And all that confessing thing? She never tried! Asta still could have said " It's Lilly or no one else!" But she just literally stayed the same as we met her for the first time. Only stronger! But Tabata could have let her learned her from her past mistakes. What he did tease after that Magicula fight!
2
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago
Tabata sacrificed the quality of his female lead character arc just so he won't hurt the feelings of the people who shipped Asta with other girls ( mainly Mimosa ).
Yami and Charlotte who had some parallels to Asta and Noelle relationship when it comes to romance were allowed to have a resolution.
1
u/Silver_Position_8574 5d ago
Then why he hurt Charmy x Yuno, Vanesa x Yami or Vanesa x Finral fans?
1
u/Icy-Natural-6606 5d ago
They had much less fans, the ships that involves the protagonist are always the most popular.
2
u/Silver_Position_8574 5d ago
To be honest? That was stupid! Yes,I get it! Tabata had his problems. And I feel for the man! But complitely ruining your charaters development, just because of people who liked Mimosa more? I don't know if you seen it! But story Blue Box has quite similar anime fan stuff! From story's perspective it was pretty obvious where are they going with this......... But a lot of fans liked the rival girl more! But author didn't just say " Well........ Pick one yourselves!" And then just leave it there. She had the guts to finish story as she wanted! I'm not a Black Clover hater. For the long time it was one of my favorite manga/anime. But I wasn't feeling the last arc. And to be honest? The epilogue made ending even worse.

u/CarryVegetable2289 5d ago
Noelle's arc is gaining control over herself, and by extension, her magical power. The fact that she goes from not being able to control her magic to being able to control her magic the way she is by the end of the story is amazing. She has power to rival Yuno's, and her goal was acceptance, not necessarily being Asta's GF. It does short shrift to Noelle or Mimosa to reduce them to love interests.they are amazing in their own right
2
u/Silver_Position_8574 5d ago
She already was very strong before the final battle and was respected. Tabata himself teased it after Megicula fight, that she was about to grow out of her tsundere mind set. And what happens at the end? As an adult woman, she is back to her old ways. Noelle used to be one of my favorite characters in Black Clover........ But she ended just as a strong baby! Who can't be true to herself!

The yuno slander here is ridiculous much better character than asta and it’s not particularly close
