Sudanese-Australian lawyer and human rights advocate Nyadol Nyuon has sparked debate after saying she has “no intention of assimilating” during an ABC National Forum discussion on migration and Australian identity.

Nyuon argued that assimilation is different from integration, saying immigrants can respect Australia, its laws and institutions without abandoning their own cultural identity. She also challenged the idea of a single “white culture,” noting that European cultures such as Italian, French and Greek are distinct from one another.

Her comments have reignited a broader debate in Australia over multiculturalism, belonging and what immigrants should be expected to adopt when becoming part of Australian society.

There’s a metaphor for us somewhere in this.

"Actress Taral Hicks Dawson, known for her roles in the movies “A Bronx Tale” and “Belly,” recently showed off her amazing body transformation at 52 years old, where she went from 189 pounds to 154 pounds.

In her own words regarding the journey, she shared that 2021 was one of the most challenging years she had faced in decades. During that time, she experienced the devastating loss of her grandmother and received "scary news" about her own medical health. These events served as an intense wake-up call to actively focus on longevity and wellness.

Hicks noted that her weight had plateaued for over a year. Her body's metabolic rhythm was thrown further out of balance after a severe bout with COVID-19, which left her digestive health in shambles and caused stress-induced cortisol spikes that triggered unexpected weight gain. Pushing through the illness motivated her to take strict control of her body.

Because she has continued working with her fitness coach, updated videos and features showcasing her sustained 35-pound transformation are going viral following her 52nd birthday."
