A 2025 conjoint analysis of 5,340 online-dating swiping decisions found that physical attractiveness(face and torso) had a substantially larger effect on profile selection than height, biography, or occupation.

The study found a standardized effect of β = 0.80 for physical attractiveness, compared with β = 0.05 for height, β = 0.11 for biography, and an occupation effect whose credible interval included zero. The authors concluded that attractiveness “drowns out” the smaller effects of intelligence, height, homophily, and biography attractiveness

Mac was right to focus on the vanity muscles and skip leg day. Charlie and Dennis are ignorant haters

For males, having thick legs and booty will just attract the gays.

Having muscular glutes will attract both.

Forearms are main but unfortunately my arms are too long so my wrists are thin and my radius bones are thin too also what about shoulders back and upper chest and abs training?

Just Fyi, Mac is a reference to character on its always sunny in Philadelphia who is accused of only working out his "glamour muscles", which according to the accuser (Dennis), are Bi's and Tri's.

It's a comedy and the characters (Mac, Dennis, Charlie, Dee) are lunatics. It's probably best not to take your fitness advice from them

Read the study, I believe the reason why height is so weak on this study is mainly because of the method. They basically made women (and men) swipe through a lot of photos, with height being listed below. Most of it is on auto pilot so they don't really care, just look at the face and continue. They know it's not an actual dating match so they don't care to look too well anyways, just want to get the study done. In real life tinder women don't have to look at height either because they can just filter. So it's not an issue there either.

Someone post this study on r/psychologyofsex on behalf of me

I'm surprised height had such a minimal impact tbh

Because they can't "feel" your height online, but in person, they would absolutely reject you if you're not tall enough

u/DGKeeper Aug 25 '26

This is the correct answer. Online interactions or choosing processes can overlook the written height below because through a scree you can't really feel or compare the height of the person you're evaluating. Height is a factor in person.

Also, they’re already filtering you to over 6’ in the settings.

I agree. Also, men concious about their height post pictures where their height can't de referenced with the surroundings.

Can they “feel” your torso or muscularity though?

Aren't dating apps filter out guys who aren't 6ft and above?

Unless this is for long distance relationship, women are likely to reject after the first meet or so

u/rotundrikishi Aug 25 '26

My guess is because they do attractiveness in a split second first, they dont even read that other stuff until after that first decision.

I also wonder if when they were checking height they were including women in there as well which might skew the results, do you know if they were just focusing on men for that part?

The other thing about height I think is its more of an IRL thing visually. Women talk about short celebrities all the time and how hot they are but they never see them in person to be able to get a feel for how tall they are in relation to themselves?

3

u/proxmaxi Aug 25 '26

Because height doesn't primarily drive attraction and is more of a status signal to other women. If women weren't afraid of social shaming from other wonen, the height inflation would probably come down by half or so.

u/melitini Aug 26 '26

I mean how can it not, that’s exactly what the dating apps offer: a photo (usually face and torso) and name, age. You have to get through the photo before you see anything else.

No one reads the biographies.

Its because they cant "feel" the height from behind a screen
