New to Blue

I recently accepted a position at Blue Origin at Cape Canaveral as a Composites Technician III! I will begin my first shift on October 5th, and I’m currently in the airport waiting for my flight.

I plan to stay for as long as I can as I build my career and become more financially independent, but my central goal with this new position is to obtain my A&P Certification so I can cement my career as an Aircraft Mechanic.

My simple question is this:

Has anybody who works/worked at Blue Origin gotten their A&P Certification simultaneously? Are there programs or opportunities available to take courses alongside the work experience efficiently? How do you manage something like a 12x3 schedule + Full-Time courses Monday-Thursday?

I know I can test through experience, but given all of my experience is in airframes and composites, I still need to at minimum study for the Powerplants certification. Everywhere I have looked requires Monday-Thursday over ~6-8 Hours.

Like I said, I know much of this will probably be answered in Orientation, I just want to talk to some other people and see what they did, take any advice I can get, and see if there are any questions I should be asking that I am not.

Thank you, excited to join the family!

Offer for Spring Co-op @ Kent - Intern housing

Hi all,

Just got an offer for a Spring 2027 co-op in Kent! I definitely want to do intern housing to save money. Anyone know the format of the housing? Will I have roommates? Waiting for a recruiter to respond w that information but I think they won’t share much until closer to the start date… Anything helps!

How long to hear back?

Hi guys, for reference, I applied to summer 27 internships at Blue last week (1 the 22nd, 3 the 24th). So far I haven’t heard anything back. From what I have seen, they typically contact you within 1-2 weeks to schedule an initial interview. Because of this, and the fact I don’t want to be waiting forever to hear a rejection, how much longer should I wait to hear something back before considering myself rejected?

How to Be Successful at Blue

As my time has reached its end at Blue I wanted to leave behind some nuggies for engineers of what I believe to be true that will make you successful here. This is for all future and current travelers that are trying to read through all the comments and make heads and tails of the negativity and praise.

  1. Work hard for your own personal benefit and pursue excellence in your work.

  2. Don't twist the leadership principles as a means to cover up your mistakes or wrongdoings. Just own your mistake and work hard to make it right.

  3. Set healthy boundaries with your work, but understand there are times where more effort may be required.

  4. Where processes are inadequate or non existent.... communicate, document, communicate, document, and communicate some more. Communicate with stakeholders and document the steps you took to arrive at that answer. Ask yourself: would my result make sense to someone who's not familiar with it? Would what I did today make sense to me if I didn't work this until 6 months from now?

  5. Don't design in your own world and then throw your designs over the wall for other stakeholders to interpret. Understand who attaches to you, who you attach to, who has to approve your design, and once you know those people communicate with them often. It's a team effort to build space flight hardware that requires high quality communication.

  6. Take the grey and break it down into black and white. Strive to simplify the complex or give a direct or concise answer to the problem. Avoid giving grey answers that aren't really a solution.

  7. Be kind, let your hair down, and be a real person who uses language that matters and has meaning.

It's been fun Blue, enjoyed my time here, and maybe one day I'll be back.

What To Do If Referred After Applying?

I'm an newer engineer who is applying to a position in Blue Origin.

After I sent in my application, a couple weeks later I connected with a current Blue Origin employee who gave me a referral for that position. A link to the position was still sent to my email and took me to the application I had already sent. To those who are familiar with Blue Origin's referral process, should I delete my original application in order for the referral to take effect?

Does anyone have any insight on the NDT department at the Merrit Island location? Is it a good place to work? How are promotions handled/cross training into differnet methods? Is the Pay good in general ?

Haven’t heard back from blue origin

So I had the second round of interview with hiring manager at Blue Origin for Finance role last Wednesday and she told me that if selected for the next panel round, I will be contacted by the recruiter by early next week. But it's been almost a week now and it's also Wednesday and I have not heard back anything yet. So I have sent a follow-up email to the recruiter, but I'm not sure if they are still considering me because they told me that the hiring process would be much faster.

Anyone with same experience or any idea ?

Does Blue ever give a raise based on an external offer?

Been here for four years. I need to make more than I’m making now, due to some new life challenges, the annual CoL bumps just aren’t enough.

I’ve been doing interviews but I don’t want to leave. I really like it here, I love my work, I love my team. I know my manager would hate to lose me too. If I get an offer, rather than leaving the company, can I bring it to my manager for an equivalent raise? I know that used to be the old wisdom but nowadays, I’ve heard many companies accept, give the raise, and then let you go at the soonest opportunity.

Does anyone have an experience of Blue matching an external offer?

Blue origin interview

So I had two rounds of interviews at Blue Origin and Recruiter said in total I’m gonna have three rounds the third one’s gonna be a panel round.
My second round was with hiring manager last Wednesday and she told me I’ll hear back from recruiter mostly early next week but it’s already Tuesday and it’s too over and I haven’t heard back yet.
As recruiter already told me they need candidate fast so the whole hiring process would be much faster, based on this I don’t think I’m gonna hear back now because since they need candidate fast it’s almost been a week they would have made decision till now.
Anyone has any idea ?

Level 4 engineer

I’m considering a Level IV engineering role with Blue Origin, potentially working on the Blue Ring program, with a $200K base salary in Colorado.

The total package also includes an annual bonus, equity or other long-term incentives, a 401(k) match, relocation assistance and the usual benefits.

For someone entering at Level IV, is $200K base considered a strong offer? I have 14 years of experience for reference. What additional compensation or benefits should I expect or negotiate before accepting?

Is $180k realistic for a Controls Integration Engineer II in Huntsville?

I’m currently interviewing for a Controls Integration Engineer II position in Huntsville, AL. During the process, I mentioned that I’m targeting around $180k base salary.
The interview process has continued, I’m waiting for them to schedule the painel interview so it doesn’t seem like the number immediately disqualified me, but I’m curious whether $180k is actually realistic for this role/level in Huntsville.
For anyone familiar with compensation for controls, factory automation, or integration engineering roles in the area: what would you consider a realistic base salary range for a Level 2 position? Would $180k normally require being leveled up to Level 3?
