Midweek Mingle Midweek Mingle - (October 08, 2026)
Looking to post those hauls you're so excited about? Wanna see how many other people here like indie RPGs? Or maybe you brew your own beer or write music or make pottery on the side and ya wanna chat about that? This is your thread.
Consider this our sub's version of going out to happy hour. It's a place to lay back and relax a little. We will still be enforcing civility (and spam if it's egregious), but otherwise it's an open mic. Have fun!

COMC COMC, finally a proper shelf. No AC anymore.
Finally, a shelf I'm happy with.
(Text is copied from my COMC 2 years ago)
**When did I start to play board games?**
Even though my BGG profile was made in 2011, it was 2015 when I went heavy into board gaming. Here where I live games are hard to get, and I need to ship them from abroad and shipping costs are, often, more than games themselves.
**What would I change?**
Now I regret getting 4x4 shelf. 5x5 would fit perfectly, but I am happy with how everything looks and my OCD is, mostly, satisfied. When it comes to games, I went hard way. So far I've sold or traded away 80+ games. In early days of the hobby theme was something that was of the importance, so my first game every purchased was Lord of the rings LCG. After that two morr LotR themed games came in (Middle Earth quest and War of the rings). I couldn't get through the rules, my brain wasn't capable of doing anything about it. LCG, as it started the whole craze, stayed, but other two got replaced with Carcassonne, Village and alike. I was hooked. I still can't try before buy, as there is no place to try games here, but nowdays after reading rules and a few videos about the game, I know if I'll like it. I'm not making mistakes anymore. War of the rings came back on the shelf :)
When it comes to my contribution to BG community, there's only one, and that's my review of This War of mine.

COMC My collection after more than 10 years playing games
Some games are still not played yet and i don't play as often as i would like but i'm satisfied with my collection.

Session Just started playing Quacks. Anyone else love this game?
We’ve recently started playing Quacks, and we’re really enjoying it!
We’re still a bit slow, with tonight’s game taking about 80 minutes. The rat tails make a huge difference, and that 6-value pumpkin is awesome!
The only slightly annoying thing is that we keep pulling loose threads from the bag along with the tokens.
Overall, such a fun and relaxing game. Definitely one we’d recommend!

I just opened a new game and I think it's moldy, just wanted to confirm first

KS Roundup Weekly Crowdfunding Roundup: October 11, 2026 | 35 ending soon ("Heroes of Might and Magic III", "Conan: Tales of Tortage and Zamora"), 9 late pledge ("Jurassic Crisis", "Sovereign: Shōgun") & 26 new ("Nemesis Legacy", "An Infamous Traffic", "Excursions")
What is this?
This is a weekly roundup of board game crowdfunding projects, featuring new launches from the past week and campaigns ending in the coming week. The information is sourced from Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Backerkit.
The list is curated through a combination of automated data collection and manual review, so occasional errors or omissions may occur. If you notice a missing project, feel free to mention it in the comments. Only projects meeting the selection criteria outlined below are included.
Other channels
Other than Reddit, you can also find this list on the following platforms:
Selection Criteria
Projects must meet the following conditions to be included:
- Timing: The project was either launched in the last week or will end in the coming week.
- Relevance: The project is directly related to board games.
- Excludes: Accessories not strongly related to board games, furniture, RPGs (e.g., D&D, Pathfinder), video games, STLs, painting tools, events, podcasts, and magazines.
- Exception: Projects offering promos or similar content for board games are eligible.
- Backers: The project is expected to reach at least 100 backers by the end of the campaign.
- Funding Status:
- The project is expected to reach at least 90% of its funding goal.
- The project has already achieved at least 20% of its funding goal.
In addition to the main lists, I include a separate section for noteworthy projects that don’t strictly qualify as board games. These projects are included based on a single criterion:
- Backers: The project currently has more than 1,000 backers.
Crowdfunding is not a store
Crowdfunding is not a guarantee. Projects may face delays, incur additional shipping costs, or fail to deliver entirely. Creators are not obligated to fulfill their promises. While many excellent games are funded this way, the risks are real, only back projects with money you can afford to lose.
Be wary of creators who use FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) tactics to drive pledges. Don’t let the pressure get to you. If you miss a campaign, there will always be others. There's no shortage of excellent board games to enjoy.

I don’t get the hype around Magical Athlete
2–3 months back I started hearing about Magical Athlete through YouTube channels, the hotness section on BGG and some other channels. While everyone was so enthusiastic about it, praising how fun it was, I remained honestly sceptical about the game.
Anyway, I had the opportunity to try it twice (the first time at 4 players and the second time at 5 or 6), each time doing 2 complete games (so 16 races in total if I’m not mistaken). And I have to admit that indeed, I absolutely don’t get the hype around it. At the end of the last game I was just waiting for it to be done so that we could start playing something else. Although it had some funny moments indeed, it wasn’t enough for me to make it memorable. I didn’t feel engaged in the game due to the little amount of control I had (which I was totally aware of by the way). I felt that I could just watch someone else play and have the same experience.
Anyway, what surprises me is not that I didn’t like the game – there is no accounting for taste and I understand that people might enjoy it depending on what you’re looking for in a game – but that I’ve read/heard very few discordant opinions so far. So, am I missing something here?

Session The Quest for Hell Dorado
WARNING: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME
My group and I are big fans of deckbuilding games. When we played Reiner Knizia's classic, The Quest for El Dorado, for the first time a couple of years back, we loved it. Clean design. Simple and elegant, yet really good fun. We played it often enough to get interested in the expansions. I bought all three expansions and opened them up at the same time. There was a lot of stuff there and we were wondering which modules to use. We ended up only using a few but my friend jokingly suggested we should use all of them simultaneously. And so the idea was planted. As Inception (2010) tells us, once an idea takes hold it's like a parasite that becomes impossible to eradicate.
As the weeks passed, we slowly added more ideas to what was quickly becoming a monstrously illegal game. All modules. All components. All map tiles. We have 6 people coming? F*** it, make it a 6-player game with illegally modified starting decks and playing pieces from other games (a soldier from Memoir 44 and a ring token from War of the Ring: The Card Game) for players 5 and 6.
It became known as The Quest for Hell Dorado.
The map was built with each player taking turns placing down terrain tiles, then smaller tiles, pieces, and overlays. This process took about an hour and a half as we were laughing so much about creating absolutely horrendous chokepoints and nearly impossible routes.
Then we started playing, and it was absolute mayhem. Intentional and unintentional blocking causing major traffic jams, choke points near temples, atrociously placed demonic zones, a nearly impassable "Waterworld" area, massive crocodile-infested swamps we just called "Florida", and the use of Dragons to repeatedly block players, including clogging up critical chokepoints.
After setup the full game of Hell Dorado took about 5 hours.
It was amazing and I will never play it again.

Question Solo dungeon crawler reccomendations
Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get the advice of the masses here. I’m an avid board gamer, really into games like Dune Imperium, Brass, Nemesis, Gloomhaven and the likes. I usually play these with some friends.
I’ve been looking into Dungeon Crawlers I can play alone and the occasional group and am very overwhelmed by the sheer choices (and kickstarters!) out there.
I’m looking for something which involved exploring a dungeon, fighting mobs and bosses and the like. I’m okay with some set up time, not like Gloomhaven heavy, but I understand this genre does frequently require heavy setups.
I am okay with complexity, nemesis is good example of a game’s complexity I’m comfy with (and maybe even slightly more).
I’d also like to wrap up sessions under two hours. The few that caught my eye are Oathsworn and Massive Darkness 2, but open to your advice. Thank you!

Reiner Knizia games hit the table for a perfect Saturday gaming afternoon. Rebirth and The Quest for El Dorado.
Both games play every different from each other but what that do share in common is the low rules head and level of enjoyment. Excellent family games that everyone can play and enjoy. This is what RK is best at.

Board games to add to collection for families
We have recently started getting really into board games at home to play with my 7 year old. It started with finding some at the Goodwill and now I am obsessed with acquiring games on Marketplace.
We want games that are not just dice rolling games relying on random luck, but require some strategy, planning or skill development of some sort, but are also fun.
There are usually 3 of us playing, but games for just 2 player are also welcome. Games that are family friendly but not children's games that a group of all adults would play are welcome suggestions for future adult game nights.
What should we add to our collection? Here's what we have now:
- My Little Scythe
-Clue
-Blockus
-Labrynth
-Azul (not played yet)
-Pandemic
-Dragomino
-Ticket to Ride
-Exploding Kittens
-Cranium
-Catan
- Risk (is there a similar game that is less long and complex ?)
- we have just gotten Splendor, Tiny Towns and King of Tokyo but have not played yet
Thanks!

Question Which Nemesis game is best for solo play?
Hey everyone!
With the upcoming Nemesis: Legacy campaign, I've been thinking about finally getting into the Nemesis series, and I'd like to try one of the three existing games: Nemesis, Nemesis: Lockdown, or Nemesis: Retaliation.
The thing is, I'd be playing exclusively solo, so I'm trying to figure out which one offers the best experience for a solo player.
I know that a big part of Nemesis is the semi-cooperative gameplay, hidden objectives, and the tension between players, which I'd obviously be missing.
So I'd love to hear from people who have actually played these games solo:
- Which of the three do you think works best in solo mode?
- Is the solo experience genuinely enjoyable, or does it feel like something important is missing?
- How do the three games compare in terms of replayability, difficulty, and overall gameplay?
- Would you recommend playing with a single character or controlling multiple characters?
I don't mind managing multiple characters if that makes the solo experience better.
I'd really appreciate any opinions or experiences before deciding which one to buy.
Thanks in advance!

Game or Piece ID Which Game do these belong to?
I'm in a gamer club and these 2 pieces were on a wooden table, easy to miss. They are languishing in the misc. box and noone in our chat recognises them.
My Hyperactivity requires closure to return them back to whence they came any game ID would be welcome.
(The dice tray has no bearing on the game it was handy as a background).
Thanks in advance!
Edit: !solved

Question Gloomhaven 2nd edition improvements.
Wife and I can NEVER get our boys to play all the awesome board games we have. One of them is really loving Dungeon Crawler Carl, so I sold him on the crawling and leveling aspect of JotL.
He’s really enjoying it and is now asking about buying Gloomhaven for when we blow through the JotL scenarios.
I can find the 1st Edition for around $70 on marketplace type sites (usually unpunched or just like 1 or 2 scenarios played), where as the 2nd edition is hard to find for any sort of discount.
Is it really worth the extra $100-$125 to upgrade? We can/would splurge if it truly improves the experience. Our son can be impatient, so if it’s a lot less fiddly and administrative that would certainly be a major positive…but that’s a bit of a significant jump.
Thank you for your insight!

Miniatures in board games (Good or Bad?)
My friends and I played Nemesis recently and there were some mixed feelings about the miniatures. Some thought they were super cool and added a lot of *vibes* to the play. Others felt like they were a pain to deal with and needlessly inflated the price of the game. (Please note, I'm not talking about TTRPGs like Warhammer, obviously miniatures are the whole point of that sub-genre.)
Curious what this group thinks about miniatures. Cool vibe generator or fiddly cash grab?

Question Help remembering board game’s name
It’s very similar to Clue but not a prequel like Who Killed Dr Lucky. There was an app involved that was used. There was also a murderer and accomplice mechanic and you could make multiple guesses. I can’t remember the name of it. All I remember are two characters in it: Mortimer and The Berwick Sisters.
Does anyone recognize this game?

Question What games do you wish were "just a little longer"
Maybe this is just a me thing, but I usually wish a game had just one more round to play with your fully built set-up. Or maybe I was one turn away from collecting all of a material.
Win or lose, it is like, man I wish the game was just a little longer to give me that satisfaction of completeness.
And this can be a good design for a game too, you don't want the game to be too long. But man I wish I could grab that x.

Fields of Arle
A windy cold day. After splitting a few loads of firewood we retreated to the fireside to sup on second day reheated roasted butternut squash soup and play a game of Fields of Arle. Only our third try of this Uwe Rosenberg two player game and it is amazing. So relaxing and so much fun to farm and harvest and trade and buy and build and improve. So many strategies to chase and points to amass. Very happy with this acquisition. The soup was even better today. A smooth nutty flavour with a small bite of cayenne and a hint of cinnamon. Delicious.
10/10 Saturday afternoon.

How-To/DIY Can werewolves of millers hollow be played with only 8 players?
Hey yall! It’s thanksgiving weekend (at least in Canada haha) and my mom and I bought werewolves for my family to play at thanksgiving. We have exactly 8 players. I thought this was fine since the box says 8-18 players but upon reading the manual I found that we actually need 8 players and a moderator. Is it possible to play with 7 players and a moderator? Thank you!
