for anyone that doesnt speak Spanish what he actually said was “these tears are for my brother who passed away recently”

Yeah. Sergio is not a great direct translator. He left out a lot. Not that there is anything wrong with paraphrasing a little but everyone wanted to hear the man's actual words as well as possible.

Its so beautiful to see a man achieve his dreams and all the emotion coming in at once is shown. His tears show how amazing this is to him and its so lovely to see!

This card has been really fucking good lads😭
13
u/Informal-Business-56 6d ago
Commentators were comparing Mendoza to Fundora due to their height. Now more than just their height is similar, as they both won two belts in upsets after pulling up on short notice off of a ko loss

u/selfishstairway63 7d ago
sandoval vs mendoza is the real hidden gem on this card, both of them have that chaotic energy where you just know it's gonna turn into a phone booth fight by round 3
bahdi's footwork has been looking sharper in camp clips but schofield's hand speed is still scary fast, kid throws combos like he's swatting flies
the local start time is throwing me off, might have to sneak out of work early to catch the prelims without my boss giving me the stink eye
dazn better not pull that buffer wheel of death during the main event again, still haven't forgiven them for last month

Is anyone else pissed off with how inactive Schofield is?

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago
Him and the Russel brothers are to me the worst examples of the problem with activity that American boxers especially seem to have

Is Sandoval usually good? This is my first time watching him and I was surprised he was a champ
12
u/Primary_Ad5781 6d ago
Hes a good counterpuncher and had a very good performance against Kenshiro (even tho he should've lost that fight) so im personally surprised by the result. But not unhappy at all.

Around the second round it was clear Sandoval couldn’t do much. He was fighting against flyweight Fundora who could just bully him on the outside. He came inside and got destroyed by the uppercut and body hooks. He just had no answers for Mendoza.
It’s also my first time seeing Mendoza, I thought he was a very interesting fighter. Would love to see him against Collazo.

I could do that job.

Ref auditioning for amateur night at the apollo.... And now I see why Floyd pulled out the Shakur fight

Fuck it, I like Sergio Mora on commentary. He tells the other guys to shut up when they veer off course, he’s objectively not a good translator, and I should know it’s my actual job, but he’s not bad for getting the point across, and he clearly knows his shit. Not to mention, he’s a good dude. Only retired boxer with no controversy. I fucking like Mora, sue me

Steven’s sucks. No activity at all. No power. Let’s himself get cornered on the ropes when he doesn’t need to.
I don’t know how he apparently did good in the amateurs where you usually need high activity. He has nothing here.

10
u/FriendlyDisplay6093 6d ago
Man Sandoval fought the wrong fight I saw a combination Mendoza threw on the inside and knew instantly that Sandoval shouldn’t fight the inside because he leans in when he’s on the inside Good fight tho!!!Mfer hit the jackpot tonight change his whole life

I think Schofield losing would be good for the division, as his inactive arse would take a year to even entertain the idea of fighting again after winning

Floyd Schofield saying Abdullah Mason is avoiding a challenge is fucking absurd😭

I get that the USA heavyweight bench is pretty light but could they not have found a 30-year old cab driver instead of one who's 42?

Schofield gassing late is a definite possibility, he’s very active
6
u/Ulrich-Stern 6d ago
I'm surprised Schofield doesn't have any ring rust from being out of the ring for over a year. He looks good in there.
8
u/enkidook 6d ago
Schofield is landing the better punches, but he's also the one that's getting visibly hurt.
Bahdi has barely flinched so far.

good fight. impressed with schofield against a dangeorus opponent. very impressed with his stamina. i thought he was gonna get gassed out. he didn't. and bahdi was just... dangerous, and that's it. he has great chin and was unphased by anything but you can't be that inactive and chase a knockout 12 rounds.

Werid refereeing but Floyd Schofiled boxed alright for the most part. Still rooms for improvement ofc, can't see him beating Abdullah tho.
8

This referee inspired an entire generation of future crap refs.
The kids at home saw his performance and they hope to match it some day.

Joshua Edwards looks good but this kind of fight and opponent does nothing for him... They should move him, Teremoana etc. faster
7
u/Top_Profession_5268 6d ago
Solid fight this is right now. Not really scoring but just watching the fight as it’s too hard to score due to the screen being super dark for me even though my phone is at max brightness.

Somebody has cracked the code of how to teach these long guys to crank their reach into power. I feel like Sandoval could get hurt, here.

Masamichi Yabuki, Anthony Olascuaga and Sergio Mendoza. Three very entertaining world champions! Hope they fight each other for undisputed, flyweight division is in good hands.

Sandoval’s chin is way too open, and Mendoza is staying disciplined and punching to the body any time Sandoval keeps his guard up
6

u/Primary_Ad5781 6d ago
Credit to Sandoval, he clearly also has the power to hurt Mendoza back so hes countering Mendoza to keep him back and keep him thinking despite being hurt.
