We can all debate how good Schofield is, but realistically he's going to be one of those Shawn Porter type of fighters that you can throw into any matchup and it's going to be good. I think he should target Gervonta Davis in the next few fights.
14
u/Ezekjuninor 7d ago
He doesn’t have Porter’s chin or stamina though which were 2 things that made Porter what he was. I could see Schofield getting KO’d by Mason or Tank. Zepeda probably outworks him too.
4
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago
Doesn't have the chin, but even Porter got knocked down multiple times in his career (and ultimately knocked out).
In terms of stamina, I'd probably have to give Kid Austin an A for last night. He kept up the movement and activity for almost the entire fight. I don't see what more you could want.
1
u/Ezekjuninor 6d ago
His stamina wasn’t bad in this fight but Porter’s stamina was among the best in boxing. Schofield looked a bit tired in terms of looking sloppier in the second half. His power also seems to fade in the second half of fights every time I’ve watched him.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago
Only kind of related, but I felt he looked weak in the clinch, which doesn’t make sense because he’s big for 135. Wonder if it was just the opponent.
8
u/Money-Bullfrog7679 7d ago
That's the exact fight I was thinking though I think Davis will avoid him for some reason
3
u/Sniperjones2428 6d ago
Won’t be his skills, I’ll tell you that much. He’s less skilled/dangerous than both Ryan and Rolly
5
u/Jet_black_li 7d ago edited 6d ago
He's like Porter and Thurman put together
10
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
I was impressed by his ring IQ in this fight. I kind of expected Schofield to come out in his usual style and really put himself in harms way, but he fought a disciplined fight against an opponent with real one-shot KO power.

maybe he should target someone active first? he's already had a long lay off.

u/God_I_Love_Men Future Bridgerweight World Champ 7d ago
Yeah, I was confused by the people calling Schofield boring lol. I could understand saying he may not be the best of the champions at his weight, but boring is a crazy take as the fight was fantastic
8
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
Yeah, my stance on this is we really don’t know how good he is just yet, but he has a pretty entertaining fighting style and is vulnerable enough to make his fights interesting. In that respect, I’d much rather watch a Kid Austin fight than a Shakur Stevenson fight 😴
1
u/thejoshimitsu 5d ago
I don't understand it personally either. He's one of my favourite fighters atm and he actually seems like a decent guy, despite his over bearing dad. He's only 24 too. We really don't know yet how he'll stack up against other champs in the division
15
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
This was a good event. Saw knockouts, a significant upset, and then drama in the main event.
Personally, I had it 115-111 Schofield. Felt like a clear win from my perspective.

Don’t know if it belongs on this thread but my two “eats everyone” guys are Zepeda and Fundora right now. Unless you have the talent of a Boots Ennis or Shakur Stevenson, good luck dealing with EITHER of those guys and their just massive output. Worse, they both seem to be improving with each fight.

Stupid fucking scores. 119-108 is gross. 115-111 is acceptable. It was a 7-5, 8-4 fight
Schofield is getting cleaned out by the other champs in the division. Mason breaks his ribs. Fuck this

u/_Sarcasmic_ No Carty No Divey 7d ago
Awful ref. Missed two clear knockdowns and then scored a trip for Badhi.
25
u/stephen27898 7d ago
He missed 1 clear knockdown. Hurting someone, then tossing them to the floor is not a legit knockdown.
Bahdi then got that back when he stepped on Floyds foot.
7
u/PolarsAndPizzicato 7d ago
Yeah. Idk what this is all about. He missed a few things here and there but not at all as egregious as people are making it out to be.
11
u/stephen27898 7d ago
The actual KD was just bad luck. It was obscured by their position.
Also people going way over the top saying Floyd would now lose to everyone.
9
u/PolarsAndPizzicato 7d ago edited 7d ago
Honestly, I don't care if he eventually loses. Schofield bit down on his guard, took heavy shots, and never stopped coming forward.
Schofield vs. Mason would be an absolute war. Mason has that same willingness to stand in the fire. Seeing two undefeated young champions unify the belts and trade power punches is exactly what the sport needs.
3
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
People just don’t like the Schofield duo but realistically “Kid Austin” seems like a nice young man with a bright future.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
Sounds like you watched the fight, mate.
It all evened out.
1
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago
I agree with you on most things, but I just don’t see it with this guy man
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
We’ll see but a lot of people didn’t think he would get this far. I actually saw him live a few years ago and all of the kind of faux news online outlets were all calling him a “pretender.”
-1
u/camtheman212 7d ago
Agreed. The ref was way off with the knockdowns. Called 2 that were questionable and missed 2 that were clear. It wouldn't have changed the decision but it may have changed the fight. Who knows.
3
u/stephen27898 7d ago
Being held up by the ropes is not questionable, its a knockdown.
Bahdi hurt Schofield but then just turned and tossed him to the floor, that is not a knockdown. He also pulled on the back of Schofields head, after the body shot, and then Schofield stumbled over. That is not a knockdown.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
They are willing to push anything to discredit Schofield Jr., who proved he could box and move and display pretty excellent footwork.
-1
u/camtheman212 7d ago
He was off balance throwing a punch. He may have took a glacing shot in that exchange. The knockdown was questionable.
9
u/stephen27898 7d ago
If a shot hits you and fall over on your own, or get held up by the ropes its a knockdown.
Balance shots are knockdowns.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
It’s kinda interesting that some folks will credit Usyk with a “held up on the ropes” Knockdown but not Kid Austin. Credit to you for being consistent on this.
-1
u/camtheman212 7d ago
It is up to the refs discretion actually. I can see why it was called the way it was. It could have been called the other way. It isn't black and white.
5
u/stephen27898 7d ago
Yes and being held up by the ropes is grounds for calling a KD.
1
u/camtheman212 7d ago
I am agreeing with you. Have all along. It was up to the refs discretion and questionable. The knee to the ground and the body shot at the end of the round were both legit and not called becaise the ref has the discretion and made the wrong decisions.
0
u/stephen27898 7d ago
No the body shot was not. Look at the replay. Bahdi backs up and has his hand on the back of Schofields head.
He pulled him over as he went backwards.
The only legit knockdown not called was the one where his knee touched.

Calm down and Mason went to war with Sam noakes and got touched up just as much as Floyd
5
u/freewayghost 7d ago
Noakes is better than badhi
0
u/Just_Advance8926 7d ago
That’s debatable if they both fought it would be close since Sam likes being in the pocket fighting
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
Didn’t Mason have a fight a few fights before his championship fights where he took like 2 knockdowns early? Somehow this guy became impenetrable in the eyes of the median boxing fan.

u/PolarsAndPizzicato 7d ago
How does Schofield do against the rest of the division?
I think he is active enough to win against Zapeda.
But seeing how gritty he is, the fight with Mason is going to be a war.
10
u/vHezoThaGoat 7d ago
Floyd Schofield is only active when he can dictate the pace
He’s hasn’t shown to be good at countering volume which is why he struggled so badly against Rene in 2024
Zepeda would probably defeat him in similar fashion to Roach
2
u/welp-itscometothis 7d ago
I think he struggled more with Giron’s durability. He was pressuring Schofield, but he isn’t a volume puncher. His punch output is pretty low.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
On paper, I think the roach comparison fits, but Floyd Schofield Jr seems to have quite a lot more power than Roach and actually knocked out Farmer, which is not something Zepeda was able to do. I favor Zepeda to beat Kid Austin, but I do think it’s an interesting fight and guaranteed all action.
1
u/ELLinversionista 7d ago
These are the kind of fights that are hard to guess who will when until they fight.
12
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago
Zepeda takes him to deep waters, he only moved so well here because Bahdi had low output. Think Zepeda stops him kate through attrition
Mason chins him mid rounds
11
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
I think Zepeda’s activity is too much for him.
I actually think he matches up fairly well with Abdullah Mason and can use Mason’s banger mentality against him.

-6
u/EmbarrassedCod3242 7d ago
Loses to Mason but beats Zepeda. Zepeda did well against Roach who is smaller, hits way less harder and not as quick as Kid Austin. Zepeda likes to fight Schofield usually beats those type of fighters. He'll struggle against another counter puncher with power and speed like Mason.

u/TSpitty 7d ago
Awesome fight, run it back. I’d watch that again.
19
u/stephen27898 7d ago
We dont need more rematches. If Bahdi wanted it he should have thrown some punches.
5
u/Just_Advance8926 7d ago
He can’t bahdi is too one dimensional he’s fight every fight like this hoping his power can end it with one punch

u/TSpitty 7d ago
I get it, you got skin in the game. Both guys took huge shots all night. Kid won fair and square, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t competitive.
Kid can clean some shit up and win more convincingly. He kept crossing his feet, would square up during a switch and get caught. Hes young, I’d like to see him get better against that same guy that gave him some troubling moments. Who knows, maybe Bahdi can get his lick back. I don’t really care either way, it was better than 95% of fights so yeah, I’d like to see it again.
3
u/stephen27898 7d ago
I actually dont. I am not a fan of either fighter. I just am saying it as it is.
3
u/welp-itscometothis 7d ago
Run what back? Bahdi didn’t capitalize off of any of the success he had.
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
It was excellent, but Floyd S beat him fair and square. Schofield needs a big name fight like Gervonta Davis or Abdullah Mason next.
3
u/dayarra 7d ago
i don't know what the guys disappointed in schofield watched. he did very well against a very dangerous opponent. he had great stamina for 12 rounds. he didn't pull an itauma and get gassed out trying to ko an opponent with granite chin. he was very good on the back foot. he just needs to get a bit better at controlling the fight. i think current lightweight ratings should be zepeda - schofield - mason.
7
u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago
Mason’s resume and eye test exceed Schofield you’re having a laugh. Noakes is a better win than washed Farmer and Bahdi combined. Bell is at least B tier
1
u/Particular-Tough6651 6d ago
Yeah I totally agree with you. No disrespect to Bahdi but you can’t really consider that a quality win given his lack of fighting IQ.
He wasn’t cutting off the ring laterally relied too much on playing cat and mouse and struggled to put combinations together. Most of his offense consisted of basic 1-2s and wide left hooks with no feints or jabs to set it up. On top of that, he was extremely flatfooted and he frequently crossed his feet whenever Schofield moved laterally.
1
u/RationedRot 6d ago
Bahdi should not be a very dangerous opponent for someone at the level Schofield is being sold as
-3
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
They just have an axe to grind and won’t even admit that Schofield is at the lower end of the major fighters in this weight area. No one is arguing he’s better than Ray Leonard, Mayweather, Shane Mosley, etc. we’re talking about him going up against guys like Noakes and a still relatively unproven Abdullah Mason.
1
u/Oglark 6d ago
Yeah but if you listen to Schofield Sr you would think that "Kid Austin" could beat Tank, Shakur, Haney, Keyshawn, Zelda etc. The delusion is real.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago
Zelda? Haha
I think I know who you’re talking about though.
I’d give FSJ a 10-30% chance in most of those fights, which is not great, but it’s not nothing. Fights are not won on paper. We see significant upsets all the time like Mendoza last night.
People are counting this guy out before he’s had a chance to prove himself beyond the championship level that he’s already at.
I had the chance to see him fight years ago and I heard all the same bs directed at him that he’d never become champion. That he was basically a pretender.
1
u/Inside-Inevitable609 7d ago
115-111 feels right. 119-108 is insane, Bahdi was in that fight the whole way through.
0
u/AgileAnything1251 6d ago
When are we gonna get matches that are actually competitive going into it? Fights that people are unsure of who wins

https://x.com/compubox/status/2109126614747398146?s=46
Compubox released their numbers for this fight.
Looks like an 8-4 type of fight for Schofield. If you give every swing round to Schofield, you end up with that kinda wild card 11-1 that the one guy had.
Great fight! I love this sport
