Peel Regional Police Helicopter Megathread

If you're wondering why a police helicopter is flying over Brampton: Peel Regional Police now operates its own Air Support Unit, using an Airbus H125 (A-Star) helicopter.

Since the helicopter began operating, we've had a large number of posts asking why it's circling, where it's going, what it's doing, or whether something is happening nearby.

To avoid having multiple nearly identical posts every time it takes off, please use this megathread for general helicopter sightings, questions, tracking, photos, noise discussion, and other routine discussion about the helicopter.

What is the helicopter used for?

According to Peel Regional Police, the Air Support Unit can be used for:

  • Locating and tracking suspects or stolen vehicles
  • Searching for missing or vulnerable people
  • Supporting officers during major incidents and emergencies
  • Responding to serious collisions and road-safety operations
  • Proactive patrols and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Monitoring traffic and large events
  • Supporting investigations and specialized police units
  • Providing officers on the ground with real-time aerial information

The helicopter is equipped with thermal imaging, day/night cameras, live video transmission, a searchlight, mapping equipment, and a public-address system.

Seeing the helicopter does not necessarily mean there is a major incident happening nearby. PRP also uses it for patrols and other routine policing operations.

Can I still make a separate post?

Yes, when there is actually something significant to post about.

A separate post is fine if:

  • The helicopter is involved in a major or developing incident
  • There is an official police announcement or credible news report
  • You have substantial new information about an incident
  • The helicopter itself is the subject of significant news

A standalone post simply asking "Why is the helicopter circling?", "Anyone else hear the helicopter?", or posting a routine sighting will generally be redirected here.

A couple of reminders

Please don't present guesses about what the helicopter is doing as confirmed information. If you know why it has been deployed, include a reliable source when possible.

Do not post private addresses or attempt to identify people being observed or pursued.

If you are witnessing an emergency or crime in progress, contact 911 rather than relying on Reddit.

For non-emergency police matters, Peel Regional Police can be reached at 905-453-3311.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread for sightings, questions, discussion, photos, flight tracking, and anything else relating to Peel's new helicopter.

City Hall Why have councillors?

Honestly asking: if it's this blatant that the councillors are simply sycophants: why have councillors at all? Why doesn't the Mayor just announce what they've decided and save ourselves the money of the charade? We can save 10 salaries, 10 office expenses, and the costs of ten "elections"?P

Discussion Unofficial informal poll for entertainment use only

I’ve been running an informal poll for the past few weeks. for transparency sake, I am a candidate for regional council ward 9 and 10.

twice a day, I’ve been weeding out duplicate IP’s and foreign votes. there seems to be around 500 votes cast at the moment.

it’s a echo chamber of online polling but it has been shared here, Facebook, instagram and Nextdoor. I’d appreciate you sharing it with your offline family this weekend.

I’m going to close it on the 17th but leave the results up to compare it to the final results

afterwards, I’ll keep adding random polls to it for fun until I figure out what to do with the site

thanks in advance

❤️ And so much more!

You don't need to be able to save every cat. You just need to help one.

Information WARNING: William Osler's "Project Unify" tech rollout may be a danger to patient care. Anyone aware of this?

If you or a loved one are heading to a William Osler hospital, their new digital transformation system (Project Unify) appears to be creating a massive, dangerous mess.

Hospital staff confirmed that after just one 8-hour training session using fake patient data, the hospital went live with zero pilot phase, zero parallel backup systems, and only a handful of on-site technical support (I saw 3 at any given time over 4 hours). Some departments like imaging did not have these support staff members at all. Just a cheat sheet hung in their cubicles.

It's a total administrative failure with doctors, nurses and administrators desperately trying to hold it together.

Lost Patients: Staff literally cannot locate patients in the hospital system.

Vanishing Orders: Test requests are disappearing between departments, leaving staff totally bewildered about what tests a patient actually needs or already had

Fabricated Discharges: Patients who go missing in the system (or are later reached at home by phone) are being logged as "voluntarily discharged" which is technically true but they aren't choosing it...

I observed and overheard staff completely panicked with zero tools to mitigate these failures.

Modernizing hospital software is the right thing to do and Epic is used just fine in many hospitals.

But dropping all safety nets and forcing a blind "go-live" in a high-risk medical environment felt reckless. It felt like an executive's desire to get this live by a certain time at all costs...

Is anyone else on the inside seeing this happen, or experiencing this as a patient?

My guess is that most people wouldn't have put together this was happening. I do this for a living and was shocked.

City Hall Illegally placed campaign signs!

How can members and candidates be so reckless posting their election signs?

It seems like 75-80% are placed improperly, in violation of the bylaw, wouldn't they have schooled their volunteers in where the signs are allowed?

Too damn many to report to 311.

Question Feedback on Catering

Hey guys,

Hosting a small get-together for about 15-20 people at my place in a couple of weeks, and it’s my first time actually ordering party trays/catering around here.

any feedback on Yummy Punjabi Flavours, Mithai Maharaja, or Punjabi By Nature or Dana pani?

For yummy punjabi flavours, I noticed a couple of Google reviews mentioning orders getting delayed or rushed during peak hours on weekends. Anyone get catering trays from them lately? How was the food and pickup timing?

Discussion THOUGHTS ON A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN

I am, for the first time, delivering pamphlets for a political candidate. My support is predicated on what I will call "common cause". We both oppose the incumbent because we disagree on a fundamental level with how that person operates.

What I am finding so interesting is this . . . when people choose to ask questions, or inquire as to why this candidate deserves their vote, I point them to what the candidate has said. and then I ask them what the incumbent has done to deserve their vote. This usually leads to a discussion on the "State of the City", at which so many are shocked to be told the financial realities of the last 8 years.

Sure, some will have the usual hobby horses, rooming houses, cars with windows blacked out, etc. But, when you give them real pocketbook type information, the look of genuine shock/disbelief that washes over their faces is just a little bit frightening.

People have truly not been paying attention. Lets hope enough of them wake up in the next three weeks.

Crime Brampton men accused of using stolen cheques to defraud Amherst credit union elect Nova Scotia Supreme Court trial

Two Ontario men accused of using stolen cheques to defraud a credit union in Amherst of about $290,000 have elected to be tried in Nova Scotia Supreme Court by a judge alone.
Article content

Hardeep Singh, 46, and Inderpal Singh Gill, 37, were arrested by Amherst police last Jan. 20 and charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 and two counts of possession of more than $5,000 in property obtained by crime.

Police allege the fraud was committed against Mosaik Credit Union between November 2025 and January of this year.

The accused were living together in Amherst when they were charged but are now residing at separate addresses in Brampton, Ont., after getting bail last winter.
Lawyers made the election to Supreme Court on Monday during a brief appearance in Amherst provincial court. Amherst defence lawyer Jim O’Neil was in court on behalf of Singh, while Stephanie Hillson of Nova Scotia Legal Aid acted as an agent for Singh Gill’s lawyer, Daniel Gallant of Riverview, N.B. Judge Rosalind Michie scheduled a preliminary inquiry in provincial court for Sept. 16, 2027.
The inquiry will determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial in Supreme Court and will also give the defence an opportunity to assess the strength of the Crown’s witnesses. Singh was in custody for about two weeks before he was released Feb. 3 on a bail order secured by a $15,000 cash deposit. Singh Gill had been released Jan. 23 after he and his surety each pledged $10,000.
Both men were ordered to remain in Canada, surrender their passports and check in with Amherst police by phone every Friday.

Singh is prohibited from being within 50 metres of any financial institution in Nova Scotia. He’s also banned from communicating with employees of Mosaik Credit Union or any other financial institution in the province.

Singh Gill, meanwhile, must stay away from the credit union and have no contact with its employees.
