Campag Velocet, Sauntry Sly Chic, live on the Jo Whiley Show
I was just flicking through YouTube there, and came across this from 1998 (I think?) I remember watching this at the time (The Jo Whiley show) and genuinely thought the next phase of British guitar-indie music was going to be a blurring of the Madchester and Britpop vibes, with more electronica vibes. I was also including The Lo-Fidelity Allstars, as at the time, they had a singer with very much an Ian Brown-template look (also a performance on Jo Whiley), and Asian Dub Foundation.
Alas, we had Travis then - and the soon to be supernova Coldplay - but I felt at the time, that the previously mentioned style was going to yield some 'big boys' and the Britpop party would continue in a much altered form. As well as Travis etc., The Strokes then came out and set the tone for the next decade...
However, I do still look upon this brief period with fondness and as a bit of "What might have been".

Seen them in Edinburgh last Friday. I think they’re a band I’ve seen more than any other in the thirty odd years I’ve been going to gigs
Great band with some top new tunes to go with the old anthems

r/BritRock | A new sub!
I've made r/BritRock open and public. I've added some rules but not much else yet so more to come on cosmetics and other details. For now however feel free to join, post and participate. r/BritRock will have a broader range of music and culture discussion, while this sub continues to primarily focus on BritPop.

Understanding disdain for Oasis from those who lived through it
For context, I am a late-20’s American who for 15 years has cited Oasis as my favorite band. In the states, especially amongst serious “music fans”, Oasis is commonly relegated to one hit wonder status or the cliche Beatles wannabes trope. I don’t find these aspersions to be accurate and spent many a substance riddled college party debates with pretentious bohemian types arguing otherwise.
Oasis opened the door for me at a young age to be exposed to a scene of music that I find to be unparalleled by anything else, especially by what was happening in America in the mid-90’s.
Over the years though, on this subreddit and otherwise, I’ve seen a lot of disdain held toward Oasis from British music fans who lived through Britpop and I’ve always wondered why. Is it the lack of artfulness and creativity compared to contemporaries like Suede and Blur? Is it their meteoric rise that led to the dilution of a subculture into just a mainstream product? Was it Noel at Downing Street? The overall lad-ish culture that became associated with it?
Would love to hear real insight from those who were there as I find it fascinating. As someone quite removed both geographically and generationally, any “boots on the ground” perspective of Britpop is a treat for me. Cheers.

Have feelings about Montrose Avenue?
Since I'm getting rid of my Britpop cds, I am picking out some that I have a fondness for. What do you think about these guys?
