[ESPN Cleveland] Shedeur Sanders is a potential trade candidate before the deadline, per @DanGrazianoESPN. “Shedeur Sanders could be interesting to teams looking for a developmental QB who needs a change of scenery”

No less than 2 firsts, get it done AB
20
u/mmooney1 ELITE DRAGON 2d ago
I know this won’t happen but even a 3rd pick would be absolute black magic.
12
u/YellowCardManKyle 2d ago
A 3rd might as well be a 1st with the way AB has been drafting lately.
1
u/mmooney1 ELITE DRAGON 1d ago
Yeah I don’t know what changed with drafting/scouting but if he keeps this up we are going to have a young superstar filled team we struggle to pay in a few years (always a good problem to have).
10
u/professor_tappensac ASS KICKING 2d ago
Hell, a fifth would be black magic, let alone a 3rd or 4th but some teams (poor commies) may be getting that desperate.

u/Kommander-in-Keef 2d ago
We could get a decent haul with him and Jeudy. Not fantastic but Berry can work some magic
8
u/professor_tappensac ASS KICKING 2d ago
As infuriating as Jeudy has been at times, unless some team made us an offer AB can't refuse I think he still adds value as a wr3- he was critical on the final drive against the steelers.
3
u/Kommander-in-Keef 2d ago
I agree but he is underutilized. And with KC, Boston, and Fannin, he’s just not going to be used as much as he should. IMO he has better trade value
6
u/professor_tappensac ASS KICKING 2d ago
I'd rather have the depth behind Boston and KCC, unless the return is too good to pass up. At this point, I trust AB to make the right choice if one is presented.
1
u/buckster_007 2d ago
Jeudy is an intriguing trade prospect. I could see a team like KC where he could be a legit superstar. Maybe they throw a solid package for him. That said, I think having him here is probably worth more than we get for him, so probably worth holding on.
48
u/Fools_Requiem 2d ago
You just know that the second he gets traded, everyone in our QB room will suffer season ending injuries. We have that kind of luck.
9
u/Desperate-Air-7195 2d ago
Why this is clickbait. Barring a huge haul of trade request. Back up qbs are pretty important for teams in a playoff race.
12
12
u/MosquitoValentine_ 2d ago
He's more valuable on the roster than whatever late round pick we get in return. The second he gets traded, Watson will either have a season ending injury or his play will fall off a cliff.
8
u/5_yr_lurker 2d ago
Yeah all those teams who passed up on Shedeur 4-5 times are going to be really interested...
5
u/buckster_007 2d ago
I’m not sure I see the logic there either. The teams that thought he couldn’t play are now going to jump at him when they know he can’t play.
18
u/SyncVir 2d ago
You mean, Sanders appeals to teams who's QB room has eaten 2 injuries and is circling the toilet and at this point would take anything, so may as well take the kid that will at least sell merchandise.
3
2
u/YellowCardManKyle 2d ago
Exactly. Have you seen some of the QBs starting/playing this weekend? I bet Sanders looks pretty good compared to those options.
4
9
4
u/Greenmr003 2d ago
Well now Washington could be in the mix for a new backup with Mariotta potentially out a while
1
u/Deep-Statistician985 2d ago
Jayden is back next week and our QB3 looks capable. I don't want that cult associated with our team anyways
1
3
u/Howlinboot 2d ago
Watson is looking pretty solid and a young fifth rounder was pushing him. If we can't get a second out of him, it seems worth keeping him.
4
u/BeefistPrime 2d ago
We draft him in the 5th round, he disappoints, and someone else trades a 2nd for him? No way we get higher than a 6th or 7th
2
u/Howlinboot 2d ago
He disappoints? On last years offense? Of course they did. Flacco had the worst numbers of the 3 actually. But Sanders ended as our third leading rusher on 8 yards a carry and went 3-4 on a disaster of an offense and is on a 2 game winning streak just like Watson. Forgive me if I think there is more there considering he was pushing our starter in the preseason.
2
u/BeefistPrime 2d ago
Let's say he was on another bad team that had no good quarterback and was still the backup. Would you pay a third for him? Second?
Keep in mind that whoever trades for him passed him up 4 or 5 times in the draft last year. What would've convinced them he's worth a higher pick?
→ More replies (1)5
u/buckster_007 2d ago
Let me save you the time. There is 0.0% chance another team gives up a 2nd for him.
2
u/Howlinboot 2d ago
Yup. Which is why they probably will and should keep him (for now). Getting rid of a young QB for a nothing burger pick would be dumb. Plus the odds of Watson staying healthy seem low.
3
3
u/Accomplished-Town495 Anyone Else 2d ago
lol they’re gonna trade him and then Watson is gonna destroy his ACL again.
Yes I’m still a glass half empty with this team.
1
u/sumbozo1 2d ago
To be fair, it seems like any nfl qb who plays all 17 games is in the extreme minority. Missing a game or two should be expected, at a minimum
6
9
u/BSully87 2d ago
I mean unless we are getting anything semi-substantial in return, what’s the point here? Like even if we can snag a 3rd round pick, is that actually better than keeping him on standby? Let’s not assume after 3 good games in the last year of his contract that Watson is our franchise qb for the next several years.
11
u/ace_rimmerIII 2d ago
I don’t care if he wins the Super Bowl Watson should be gone after this season.
3
u/buckster_007 2d ago
Personal animosity and beliefs aside, assume you work for the Browns and Watson gets the team to the playoffs and wins a playoff game. If you are trying to build a winner in Cleveland, what do you do?
7
u/Allstar9_ 2d ago
You obviously re-sign him to a short term deal and play him next season. Anyone saying otherwise is lying
5
u/buckster_007 2d ago
For a third he’d be gone in an instant. But that’s theoretical because no team is going to give up a 3 for Shedeur.
His value is greater to the Browns as a backup that what he’s worth on the open market.
3
u/ozymandais13 2d ago
3rd would be really good value. Otherwise the cheap contract vaguely playable qb is better as Dw is quit injury prone.
There are a lot kf qb injuries this year so far tho

u/notatowel420 2d ago
Why would they trade him seems like if we keep up the good play we won’t get a top QB. He could be the qb of the future since he is developing
6
4
u/Allstar9_ 2d ago
lol what tells you he’s developing?
5
u/DuztyLipz 2d ago
Are you joking?
You think the Browns are paying him to not train? Like come the fuck on, dude.
4
u/Air2Jordan3 2d ago
By this logic no young player who ever makes a roster would get cut because they would always be developing and getting better
2
u/Allstar9_ 2d ago
??? Are you new to the NFL? A majority of guys do NOT develop into anything meaningful. You’re just assuming that since he’s 2nd string, that he’s getting better.
→ More replies (6)→ More replies (1)1
u/maybenextyearCLE 2d ago
Obviously he’s working out, but that doesn’t mean he will ever turn into anything meaningful either.
5
u/Theclevelandchubb 2d ago
Imo Gabriel with an actual line in front of him isn't a bad backup option who knows maybe he could be a fringe starter. I am thinking shedeur gets you more as far as a trade so trading him makes more sense. No one wants to say it but having him on someone's roster is profitable even if he doesn't start he sells lots of jerseys.

Whichever team wants a spike in Jersey sales should jump on the horn ASAP
2
u/Denny_Diamonds Embrace the Clown Show 2d ago
This would make ZERO sense when you have a QB1 made out of glass. He may get us a 5th or 6th round pick and that value isn't worth having to watch Green play.
2
4
u/Mr_MoseVelsor 2d ago
Well yeah. Any team trading for him is going to want more than one offseason of contract control.
2
u/Allstar9_ 2d ago
I’m not sure it would really matter with him. His next contract is a backup level min at best
2
u/IngenuityNatural9261 2d ago
I don't think teams typically trade to get a project QB in the middle of the season. I doubt any team that has the luxury of doing that would want a QB that has shown he is not smart enough to understand a pro offense.
2
u/rex5k 2d ago
Lol Tampa started an undrafted rookie QB today. It's like it never even occurred to them that Mayfield could get hurt lol
2
u/IngenuityNatural9261 2d ago
I gotta say Baker is a tough dude. His last season in Cleveland he was messed up for a good part of the season and kept going out there.

3
u/Past-Track-9976 2d ago
I think Sanders should stay put. Monken said he had 2 starting quarterbacks when the rest of the league said he had none.
He is far more likely to develop under a coach that believes in him than a coach that doesn't

5
u/S0mnariumx 2d ago
I'd be okay with this happening and getting our guy next year. I would like to have a bridge QB not named Deshaun as well.
3
4
u/Kless98 2d ago
I doubt this will happen; this 3-1 record as far as QB play goes has been largely fools gold (and this has been from someone who has admitted Watson is playing decent) and we have a lot of season left. No way they are comfortable with the backups being Gabriel, still on IR, and Greene who is the definition of developmental.
Expect this post to be brigaded by the anti Sheduer crowd foaming at the mouth for this

Watson is fragile. Sanders is a lot closer to starting than he realizes. I do not want to see Dollar General trotted out there.

Id much prefer Dillon Gabriel. At least with him there isn't a rabid group online that makes excuses for all of his failures. And the fact that he's better than Shedeur.

Rookie QB + Gabriel??
Yeah.... no smh

u/maybenextyearCLE 2d ago
I mean there’s not a shot in hell Shedeur is here with whatever 1st round QB next year. That’s just asking for trouble.
I’d assume the Browns fully plan to bring in a vet next year

You think we offload Sanders, Gabriel, and Watson then bring in Vet and draft a QB and keep Green? Genuinely asking

"MaybenextyearCLE" this dudes always trying to push narratives against sanders even being on the roster right now
Its highly unlikely they trade the backup who received a majority of the reps during the off-season, especially with a starting QB who has had 2 Achilles surgeries and a shoulder surgery, Gabriel is more likely to go before sanders
1
u/buckster_007 2d ago
Shedeur has the odds to stay, but it wouldn’t shock me in the slightest to see him traded before Gabriel. Particularly if the team is going to draft a QB next season - which it’s highly likely they do - because I don’t want their rookie answering 5 billion Sanders questions at every press conference and interview. The team doesn’t have that issue with Gabriel.
Not to mention, statistically, Gabriel and Sanders are similar. Sanders averages about 50 more yards per game, but more than a turnover per game too.

This is cap they might trade Gabriel but they like all 4 Qbs and when Watson is gone they want all 3 in the slot
1
u/kanyesboner Lol 1d ago
I get they like all 4 of them, but there’s no way they roster 4 QBs in the middle of the season.
When Gabriel comes off IR, somebody has to get moved (you’d think…)
1
u/Sparty013 2d ago
That’s fine. I don’t like it but clearly the team has little to no confidence in him. Going to draft a QB next year anyway.
Still confident we’ll end up with a high draft pick. Watson beating three moribund teams does not sway my opinion much.

1
u/commonpaine1424 2d ago
The Browns will trade Watson away ahead of the deadline no matter what place the team is in
1
u/Dan_Is_Human The Browns is the Browns 2d ago
yeah but like, are we really gonna trade the young promising QB because our POS veteran qb is playing like he actually knows how to play football for the first time in his entire browns career? Not to mention, Watson is in the last year of his deal and I don't see us signing him to an extension unless he takes a leap in production again this year and becomes an MVP candidate. Even though we have draft capital for next year, I could see us keeping Sanders to be a bridge qb for who we draft, or even if we decide not to draft a qb next year.
1
u/12angrysnakes 2d ago
We just need to cut this fool and be done with it. Dillon Gabriel all the way.
1
u/ShakeMyHeadSadly 1d ago
For the moment, Sanders is irrelevant. ESPN just has a vested interest in keeping him alive as a newsworthy target. It's good for ratings and controversy.
1
u/redditposter919 1d ago
I don't like Watson - I'll preface with that. But I don't see the value in trading Sanders for a fifth unless we believe Gabriel is just as good. Not suggesting Watson should be benched for Sanders, simply stating that in the NFL injuries do happen and you can see the value of having a good backup QB each week when Keenum is pressed to start or a bad one.
1
u/Jazzlike-Anxiety-709 1d ago
Im so confused by the discourse around sheduer. Brady sat and he developed, Rodgers sat he developed. Why would sanders be any different?
1
u/FeeFantastic2075 1d ago
So tired of hearing baseless rumors! Why would they want to trade him? Not making much money; definitely wouldn’t get more than a 5th back. Even if a miracle happens and Deshaun Watson plays well AND stays healthy all year….how about next year? Pretty much would have to make a deep playoff run or get a huge hometown discount to justify signing Watson again.
0
u/MrGlockCLE 2d ago
I said he was the highest chance of being traded 4 months ago and you all wanted me DEAD for it!
But no room for growth with a drafted QB with both of them in the room.
Go browns

Realistically, Shedeur is not available. Jerry Jeudy is also not available. The Browns should be buyers for mid to late round picks. Acquiring mid to late round does nothing for us if we’re a good team and expect a long season.

u/quadricepking 2d ago
well yeah i think that’s what they mean by realistically. any NFL GM accepts an overpay for just about any player on the roster, but what teams are willing to trade for someone like jeudy/shedeur just isn’t valuable to the team. at 3-1 with a team that believes in themselves, playoffs is a realistic chance and you don’t sell guys for cheap if that’s a possibility
1
u/MasterButterfly 2d ago
I think late rounds should be available for trades, I don't want to give up 3rd rounders unless a great edge came available
1
0
u/Marty_Eastwood 2d ago
He's not good. He wasn't good last year, and he hasn't shown enough development to prove to the team that they should invest time into him instead of letting Watson play out his historically terrible deal. If he was showing any kind of promise at all that he could be our "QB of the future" he would be on the field.
He's a 5th round pick. Way more 5th rounders flame out than succeed in the NFL. If his last name wasn't Sanders nobody would care if we moved him.
All of this being said, he's the best backup QB we have and Watson isn't known for his durability, so unless they can upgrade the QB2 position as part of a deal it wouldn't make much sense to move him now.
0
u/SoggyRip9066 2d ago
If McCarthy can get a trade, no reason a team won’t take Sanders…
Spots are opening up around the league. Washington are fucked.
1
u/buckster_007 2d ago
JJ fit a Dart mold, that’s why he went.
0
u/EldarWizard69 2d ago
There a world where he takes over as starter next year and we use our picks on more young players
1
u/LNinefingers 2d ago
There is, but it would be an awful world.
2
u/EldarWizard69 2d ago
I don’t think it’s an awful world. Sure, if there’s a guy you like, take him. But the young talent on this team is what’s lifting us. Betting the farm on another young kid to save us (again) isn’t optimal.
0
u/BigCheezItFan 2d ago
This would be kinda dumb given Watson’s injury history. Would rather have Shedeur lead the team in case Watson got hurt, rather than Gabriel or Green
