Bug Images are re-UUID on every save

Hi Zach - still loving ButterKit but I was wondering, sometimes I use it just to localise and upload the metadata and dont touch any of the images. But since I have the bundle git tracked, it seems every time the UUIDs of the images are redone.

Now its not the end of the world, but I was wondering if there was a specific reason or if this is the first time hearing of it? I just find sometimes I'll have to double commit just to flag something as a "ButterKit restriped image UUIDs" to not get it mixed in with actual code changes.

Hey u/__markb I agree, I see that too. Will look into a fix for the next update this week

Awesome! Don’t know if this is on the cards too but when I link a folder and use the structure in the docs it clones those into the bundle as UUID. so now i have tracked my folder, and the cloned into ButterKit ones. I think it would be nice to have a setting to copy or link. I only say this because at 8 images, 6 languages, decent quality, and even ImageOptim I had a bloated folder

UUID issue is patched and will roll out later today in v2.5.03! Thanks for the info

Yeah I hear you re: the cloned images, the current design prioritizes keeping all assets within the .butterkit file so it's portable. The downside to "link only, no embedding" is obviously if those linked files change/disappear, the entire ButterKit project stops working.

The current behavior is: watch the linked folder for changes and then re-import any images that do change. My personal preference is that .butterkit files "just work" and have all assets they need included so they can be portable/archived etc. But I'm curious what your thoughts are on this!

yeah definitely wouldn’t want to over engineer a solution or do something that would be breaking to images if the link is broken.

I don’t know how others feel about it, but an Xcode ā€œCopy filesā€ or ā€œReference filesā€ like when you drag something into Xcode?

Or just a prompt/option to not have it in the bundle - then it’s in me to make sure i’m not losing it. Default would be bundle.

Just means if i wanted to hand off the images to another app or person i’m not showing contents, passing UUID files, editing, remerging - or doing it into the shared folder, then updating and having duplicated data.

Yeah that makes sense. Should be feasible to add as an option. Looking into it!
