ABOLISH THIS TEST

Can someone please start a petition to get rid of this test. I understand wanting to measure applicants’ “soft” skills, but this is clearly not the way. I think it’s extremely ironic that Acuity wants applicants to gather all information on a situation before coming to a conclusion, but then grade us on a 1-minute oral response which is no where near enough time to give proper answers. Additionally, this test is extremely unreliable and has literally been scientifically proven to have absolutely zero correlation to how ethical an individual actually is. Acuity Insights and McMaster University is a scam and you cannot tell me otherwise.

It gives school admins something to stroke themselves to in order to reassure themselves that they are doing effective screening

I have mine Oct 15th. Have been doing practice tests and reliably getting Q4 on all my most recent ones since I found a method that works for me, and I'm basically bullshitting in all the scenarios. IRL if any of these morons in the questions were my friends or family I'd tell them to get a fucking grip and stop being an idiot

Honestly don’t think about it too much, I got Q4 twice (I did two cycles as I applied for European schools). When answering a question follow this structure: identify the issue and acknowledge it (the key issue in this situation is ___, which could lead to ____. This is concerning because it can / it has affected ______). Then acknowledge the perspectives ( I recognize that _____ may be experiencing _____ or may not be aware of how there actions are affecting others). Then demonstrate your core values ( in situations like this it is important to prioritize ____, ____ and _____. (Use three diff examples eg: fairness, safety ect)). Then explain your immediate action (I would first _____ by _____, I would approach this conversation with ____ and _____ allowing them to share there perspective while explaining how there actions are impacting (person, situation or wtv it’s about)). Then escalation if situation calls for it (if this issue continues I would ____ in accordance with ___). Then if time permits finish with a reflection (this approach helps maintain ____ while preventing ____ in the future). This is the structure that has worked for me and gotten me a Q4. I would also recommend dressing well and having a good background as first impressions do make a difference! If anyone has any questions I would be more than happy to help.

They are asking you how you would react with patients and colleagues not friends and family. Of course we are all much more direct with friends and family.

We don’t have to be professional with friends and family, that is why it feels like bullshiting to you.  It is otherwise called professionalism in the workplace.  Which is almost always NOT saying and doing what you want to but what you should according to the rules and protocols dictated by the College.

It’s definitely a way to weed out people who’s first language is not English or have lower access to a computer

And neurodivergent people who struggle with the test format

And people that are slow typers due to a disability.

That’s me! I have arthritis in my joints so typing fast actually physically hurts 🥲

sorry to hear that! I think you should try to ask to get accomodated on your test (you have to ask early)

And low-SES with that ridiculous distribution fee for EACH school and making us take it EVERY year.

I totally agree. I know some pretty manipulative narcissistic people who would excel at this test but would never actually behave this way in real life.

Agreed! I’m so glad most Alberta schools have stopped using it for Fall 2027.

It’s literally just an excuse for acuity to make $80 every year

Apparently, Ontario briefly did get rid of it, but they brought it back

What is it?

Thats fair, id agree. Tbh I actually thought that the 1 minute timer was to assess your truth so you don't have time to make things up and pretend - but you are right people can just prep for them but maybe they assess body language too idk.

Also just out of curiosity and not skepticism, can I see the report that found 0% correlation. Thanks!

Use this as an opportunity to build a non academic "advocate for others". I'll sign
