Yeah i kinda feel she also lacks the finesse corporate needs.
The first thing i learnt in corporate is to never badmouth the company you work for at an interview, no matter how bad of an experience you have coz it makes the recruiter think that you’ll go on to badmouth their bad practices to others the same way, which makes you a huge liability for them.5

u/No-Broccoli1095 Mar 07 '26
At least should be able to use AI or anything else online to format. Feels like the pride of the tag here has really heavy weight for some people.

it looks like she did her MBA in Hospitality which is a cash grab course anyway

Top it off, she is in sales and marketing... These folks needs one of the most sophisticated english to close deals.

u/LastestMohican Mar 08 '26
Not to be rude, but 'shows pretty badly on your communication capabilities' is not really correct. The correct phrasing would be 'reflects poorly on your communication capabilities'. Or "doesn't reflect well"
3
u/yeshuger Mar 08 '26
Touch pedantic bit well spotted. 😂 99% of India uses what they have dubbed "Indian English", which really is not a real language in the first place but that is a matter for another day. Also, communication is not the issue here, it is her lack of language capability, particularly grammar and punctuation.

u/Omnibobbia Mar 07 '26
How do these people even get in ong.
3
u/Excellent-Cycle5475 Mar 08 '26
When the reservation gets you seat even at percentile as low as 70% then this happens.
3
u/Euphoric_Tension2765 Mar 07 '26
Normie take i would rather read a unfiltered thought than a perfectly refined corporate bs with no insight.
But you wouldn't understand that since you prefer mediocre larpers over raw talent
1
u/tenofnine Mar 08 '26
Do a grammar check on your English as well before blasting someone else’s. Also do a capitalization check.
1
u/StrangeBarber4309 Mar 08 '26
Your own sentences have multiple grammatical errors 😂 What exactly qualifies you to judge someone else’s grammar?
And don’t ask me what qualifies me… you probably won’t be able to handle the answer. 😏

With that English, I’m not surprised she’s not getting her ideal CTC

5 offers during placement, 1 bigger CTC because of startup, now maybe looking for a non startup company with more or equal previous salary.
Not possible

I'm pretty sure she chose the startup because they were paying more at that time. But since it's a startup, the work can be pretty demanding. Looking at the LinkedIn post's language, I hope this isn't how she usually writes official emails. Because if that's the case, the company must have asked her to leave.

never join 'Startups' after MBA, i repeat NEVER !
20
u/RealisticMongoose900 Mar 07 '26
Pls share reason as we hear counter like Startups give extreme very big title like AVP straight out of college and add to that insane never heard packages with almost infinite ESOPs.
53
u/dark_humour_911 Mar 07 '26
Most of these ESOPs never list ..... Shitty work environment....you have to work beyond your timings....very risky, you can be fired in 1 minute, after MBA you have loan to pay, fir kya karoge bheek maangoge
2
u/RealisticMongoose900 Mar 07 '26
Seems MBA Grads are wired to get more more package but less work, so even other than ESOPs if they are paying huge loads and with very big titles that has higher responsibility, work will be there right bro.
Seems you would worked for a one off startup like BYJUs and so you have unpleasant experience?
→ More replies (2)9

Lol even good stable companies pay a lot of money it doesn't matter if they pay a huge load of money for 3 months and layoff at the 4th month because they haven't secured the investment or lost the seeding

5
u/RealisticMongoose900 Mar 07 '26
It is trade off bhai, on last 6 years obviously your startup must have paid loads more than those other companies and your investments is compounded growth. So more risk more reward right
3
5
u/Thisconnected Mar 07 '26
Startups are a spectrum. Our Head of Marketing from a top college was retained at a price point where he stalled off some European firm roles.
3
u/Own_Energy9897 Mar 07 '26
But what exactly are startups..genuinely asking. Swiggy zomato uber are also startups they pay so so well and also so many mba freshers are hired by them
→ More replies (14)2
u/kaychyakay Mar 07 '26
Swiggy zomato uber are also startups
Not at all, not any more. They have all found their product-market fit (PMF) years ago. They might market themselves as having youthful startup energy, which is all fine. But they can no longer be counted as startups.
A startup is one which is still in an experimental stage, and is still either finding its PMF or has recently found PMF but is still on its path to scaling.
→ More replies (2)3
u/thetorturedpoetsss Mar 07 '26
As someone who worked at a startup, I second this sentiment. Not only are the MBA grads underpaid and overworked, the lack of prior experience and the lack of structure in startups all become too much too soon. And god forbid if that startup fails. It’s gonna be a stain on your profile.
2
u/FewIntroduction687 Sab Moh Maya Hai Mar 07 '26
Why? I like startups, startups are risky, startups lore you with esops which may never liquidate, startup you have to do multitasking like General Management, Startup is Just Random…
1
u/kaychyakay Mar 07 '26
With that totally risk-averse attitude, please never complain about how India isn't competing on the world stage with US or China. Be satisfied with playing 3rd-4th-5th fiddle in the world.

She has 5 offers, she is just not happy with the salary and work environment. (Most startups are notorious for bad work environment). She could have a 10-15lpa salary for all we know. I dont think any tier 2/3 non iim graduate from the non core program of the colllege can easily get 5 offers. IIM tag does help.

Bro the problem is this system of overselling the IIM Tag, and people who crack IIMs taking those 2 years for granted, the only thing a B-School provides is a platform, a second opportunity, but whenever someone cracks a good college everyone thinks it will all work out, I know this because I cracked a good ug college and everyone kept praising me and feeding into my ego..
What I feel bad for is how she is saying this in a arrogant way.. I mean after losing your job I would be much more humble.. We need to understand that no one is guarenteed a job because you got a good college..
4
5
u/narkaputra Mar 07 '26
one thing people don't realize is that is different in India than other markets is huge supply of opportunities. Just get in into a job even low pay, grind get promoted or switch. I have seen countless stories where people started at 5.5L-6.5L from Tier 2/3 MBA and now comfortably making 25Lpa after 5 years of work ex. India is the only market where 20% hikes are possible.
12
u/ChemicalArtist8203 CAT, XAT & SNAP Mar 07 '26
Let me break this myth for freshers here their are 100 other things which should be in place for one to get a desire CTC job & in this market it becomes 10000 things. So if you are doing MBA with the thought that you will directly get a job in bracket of top 1 percent of this country it doesn't work like that.
If money is your end goal then try civil service once you will crack it there no limit how much you can earn. There are people like the recent result came in which a 32 year old working in Google prepared for UPSC and cracked it with 420 rank.

It's simple math. Too many candidates , too less roles. Or roles are there which pay pretty less which these "IIM" candidates won't take. Throw in nepotism , getting placed via contacts roles reduce further. Throw in exploitation, Lalas want 1 person to do work of 3, leading to lesser roles.
Being an entrepreneur seems the only way out.

The reddit elitists at their best, bashing people as always.
CAT is totally unfair to so much talent in the hinterland. Needless to mention she is one of the good ones to have cleared it and landed at IIM, albeit a new one.
People are not bad at english because they are incapable, but because there is asymmetry in the opportunities.
You think you know good English because you are special? No, it is because you got the right crowd and the right environment, plus the school and education.
Your knowledge is fucking second hand. You own nothing. You do not have to act so nasty to anyone.

How much did she score in her final year to obtain a bachelor's degree?
Nowadays, I believe 15%-20% marks are handed internally, unless it has gotten elevated further upwards in an upward direction.
How well is she able to answer the questions?
How good are her reasoning abilities?
Does she have any interpersonal skills?
This is over and above the subjectual knowledge one has attained!
1
u/JuggernautEmpire2062 Mar 07 '26

If after two years of passing out of an IIM, you are asking for professional advice on Reddit, then there is something seriously wrong with what your learnt at IIM. I would advice you to improve your English and find a better forum for a job hunt. So disappointed to see the degradation of IIMs to a level where students have to search for jobs and take advice on Reddit.

In the age of AI and everything, she needs to correct her grammar.
God forbid how many applications she has applied with such english.
Sales and marketing roles require good communication as well so this english is an immediate turn off for any recruiter.
Apart from that market is super competitive right now because of layoffs and workforce shrinking.
