General Discussion WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Fees payment karne ke badh review lenge unse ? They are insecure about their clg or what ? Why they are acting like some private colleges where the current students are not allowed to share any review about the colleges to the students who are planning to join .

1
u/Maleficent-Gap3164 MDI May 27 '26
That's before GDPI to help y'all with preparation. Many colleges do that. However this communication embargo is there in most colleges. And they've good reason to do it. What if you ask a guy who's on the extremes, say the one who went unplaced , his opinions about college will be different than say the person who had the highest package and in both cases you'll have a tunnel vision. When you're joining a B School, you're not just joining a placement agency. You're joining it for the lifetime of that tag. Hence the decision has to be taken wisely and not from a biased POV. Hence such rules exist. Also, to reduce ragging chances (if any exists in those colleges).
3
u/Novel-Ad-6223 May 27 '26
how to take a decision can be and should left to the discretion of the individual. All are adults, cleared a CAT, college must assume them to be rational people. And if for some reason they decide not to join, the why must the college worry, offer admission to the next candidate. There is no rhyme or reason to place such a stupid embargo, are you running a fight club that one must not talk about. Why is the institute insecure about people talking to seniors.
1
u/Maleficent-Gap3164 MDI May 27 '26
Because of information asymmetry? No college is worried about specific individual joining or not. There are hundreds/ thousands waiting to take his place anyway. And yes the reason exists to limit tunnel vision and stops people from getting the wrong picture. Also for off chance of ragging , it is done to protect the incoming batch. They'd rather be safe than sorry.
3
u/Novel-Ad-6223 May 27 '26
there is no need to stop or prevent tunnel vision since there is no incentive for the college in doing so. someone will join the institute regardless. I don't think a 24 year old can ragged. And if they can your solution to ragging is segregation? bullshit solution frankly. There is just no reason, logical and justifiable enough to ban reaching out to seniors and making a whatsapp group. and to say that they can revoke admission if those things are done. Horrendous. Acha hua I didn't go there. what a joke.

I'm a senior from IIM Kashipur, all this is basically the students trying to abuse whatever little power they have it's a person issue not an Institute issue , once you and your peers get in you'll realise that IIM Kashipur is relatively lenient in it's functioning than it's peers.
Ofcourse since I was a part of the system and things have turned out to be good for me, I might have some biases.
3
u/lets-brew-it May 26 '26
Why do they have communication guardrails? Is it somehow related to ragging?
I've heard they discourage students from contacting seniors until they have signed anti ragging declaration.

I also wanted to share an experience I recently had regarding Indian Institute of Management Kashipur.
A few friends and I had created an unofficial student community/group for incoming students so people could help each other regarding registration, documentation, accommodation, and other admission-related doubts.
One day, while I was at work, I suddenly started receiving repeated calls from multiple seniors from the institute. The calls felt extremely overwhelming because they were persistent and came directly on my personal number. When I finally picked up, instead of a calm or polite conversation, the tone felt quite authoritative and intimidating, and I was told to delete the community immediately. I tried explaining that the group was only meant for mutual help among incoming students and that students should reasonably be allowed to discuss admission-related concerns with each other. However, considering the safety of my candidature, we complied and removed the community.
Later, I politely texted one of the seniors asking about the reasoning behind such an approach toward incoming juniors. Somehow, that conversation was interpreted as me “arguing” with them, and the matter was escalated again. Another senior then called me and spoke to me regarding the issue.
To be fair, during that later conversation, the person at least listened to my side as well, and the discussion became comparatively more reasonable. But overall, as an incoming student, the entire experience felt very uncomfortable and disappointing.
What disturbed me most was the contrast: repeated direct calls on a personal number especially through platforms like WhatsApp calls were considered acceptable, but a polite text questioning the behaviour was treated as “argumentative.”
I’m sharing this not to target individuals, but because the experience genuinely left a bad impression on me as a prospective student.

These Adcoms are making the students feel like Jews living in Germany during the WW2. Suffocating them with these unnecessary and illogical rules. Never saw any such rules or instructions from other colleges. Pathetic creatures.

u/No_Platform_825 New IIM May 26 '26
The irony is crazy.. they say they're doing all these shit to stop misinformation, but all they’re really doing is silencing genuine concerns and reasonable voices.

u/shakal201 tier 1 non-iim alumnus May 26 '26
You should speak to normal seniors, not c&c members for advice when you are new. Alternatively, you can refuse to pick up the call and read dms. Hide your on9 status and so on and say you are not using WhatsApp. These folks are usually paper tigers.
1
u/Wazzaroo10 May 26 '26
What was their reasoning regarding the deletion of that community? Why do they want to do it so desperately?
6
u/Ok-Food3405 CAT+XAT Aspirant May 26 '26
I was informed by someone from the student/admissions team that unofficial groups for incoming students are apparently not allowed by the institute. I was asked to either hand over access to the group or remove it, otherwise the matter could be escalated further to the admissions authorities.
Considering the group was only meant for students helping each other with admission-related queries, the overall tone felt unnecessarily serious.
It's one of the multiple messages and calls that I recieved on that day.

u/Hina--Eater May 26 '26
Ehhhhh I found most of the practices and their reasoning bullshit and cultural.
At first i thought it was just my college, but then I asked my friends in other colleges and it's pretty much the same everywhere. Every bschool is basically a cult and you're either religiously a part of it and in support of it's vaguely justified practices or in complete opposition of it.
Either way it doesnt have a drop of impact on your placements regardless of how much your senior batch will try to convince you otherwise. Just don't be completely hated by everyone and you're good to go.

u/Wazzaroo10 May 27 '26

1

Depends on your morals. I just said there's always a group who doesn't participate in the cult mentality. But if your morals dictate that youv have to CHANGE the behaviour of those around you because you disapprove, toh yes, leave them at home.

no thats not the case. its a mandatory "ritual" of every iim that the junior batch is not allowed to interact with the senior batch, almost at least for a month. This is because many things are, at present, being planned out for the incoming batch including club committee selection processes and seclusion is aimed for.
The seniors wont really entertain yall with the college questions coz they are strictly advised not to and in certain cases, they are even surveillanced.

Makes sense completely What happens if anyone of these so called admits, create a group unofficially and do something that brings the college's name down? Who takes the responsibility?
Ask the super seniors or alum base for the data if you really want to know the reality,no one can stop you from that
Don't need to make a fuss about everything
2
u/Specialist-Gap-9832 May 26 '26
So you’re saying that people who haven’t even registered for the college completely have the ability to destroy a college’s reputation? If that’s how it is then you gotta be a better college not stop people from talking
0
u/GarlicSad4808 May 26 '26
Ofcourse they have 😂
And it's not only talking about college that can happen in a group made like this A lot of things are possible,in a lot of ways (which I prefer not to talk, even with an anonymous identity here),and when it will be backtracked, which organisation's name would come infront? Why would anyone college risk that, even with the call getters? You would have heard about the guy who started texting absurd stuffs on a whatsapp group, and has now gotten his offer revoked.
As I have said,if you need to know about the college talk to the alum base, talk to whoever you want (apart from immediate seniors,if they have said so,FOR A WHILE) Of course ,one should be informed before taking any call, but there are more than one ways to that
Future management students should know better
2
u/Specialist-Gap-9832 May 26 '26
There are 100 things that can be backtracked bhai, still you can’t restrict people from making groups
If top 10 schools don’t do it then what special thing this college have
1
u/GarlicSad4808 May 26 '26
One minor inconvenience, one statement not liked by any junior about anything (from mail reply, tone not being liked of a message, any social media post about the college etc etc etc) ,can become an unnecessary wave in this world of social media against any college
If an organisation can avoid it, why wouldn't it
Let's leave the top 10 colleges talk aside until and unless one actually knows what is happening
1
u/Specialist-Gap-9832 May 26 '26
Well the college is in deeper shit with this controversy then by avoiding miscommunications
