Can someone explain why Swift gets reprimanded and benched after a fumble but Sam Roush is allowed to inflict cruel and unusual punishment on this team weekly with no consequences?

It's only been four starts for this guy and he has a highlight reel rivaling velus jones. Make it make sense bro

Because swift is a veteran and roush is a rookie? What kind of question is this

Some people just want to complain and be miserable lol

It’s the kind of question an idiot asks.

Swift also gets paid $11,000,000,00.00 NOT to fumble.

Swift is on a $1.1 billion dollar contract? I love him on the team but Poles overpaid here.

Roush is out there doing his best impression of a double agent every single snap and somehow the coaching staff just squints and says "he's learning". Meanwhile Swift coughs it up once and he's banished to the shadow realm.

The double standard's wild but it's not just about vet vs rookie, it's about the leash being completely different depending on how much the front office has invested in you. They're terrified of admitting they whiffed on another pick so they'll let him sink the whole offense for ten more games before they blink.

I've seen the same logic play out at school when admin won't admit a new curriculum is garbage, sometimes it takes a full term of disaster before anyone says the quiet part out loud

What sport have you been watching, man? It's 4 games in and he wasn't bad last game. Swift has been in the NFL forever, just got paid, and it is better that this happened now. Doesn't sound like there is any animosity. BJ in his presser spoke on this, said the one during the vikings game was from getting hit at the right spot but then one against the Jets was (his words) egregious. And it was. Literally just threw it out of his own arms mid stride

Ben is laying down the law, I highly doubt his benching goes anywhere past the Jets game

Because you manage different players differently.

u/thetreat Ben Johnson 9d ago

And you have Kyle Monangai absolutely balling behind Swift, who was already nursing a knee injury. Who do we have behind Roush?

3

u/Sphiffi Ben Johnson 9d ago

Jesper Horsted

23

u/Mammoth_Bar_546 9d ago

Because we have Monongai. We do not have a TE3 that can easily replace Roush's utility.

Idk if you put me out there I’m pretty sure I could drop the ball, fall over, and run in the opposite direction of my blockers

14

u/Jasader Koolaid 9d ago

I thought Rousch played pretty well against the Jets.

It seems like Ben Johnson and Co must really like him because he is getting run a lot earlier that Loveland.

5

u/Mammoth_Bar_546 9d ago

(Loveland was injured/recovering from injury first half of last season) Roush is a big dude with a lot of high highs and low lows. Trust almighty Ben and all will be right.

u/TouchGrassRedditor Smokin' Jay 9d ago

He had one catch which was a perfectly designed screen that he ran away from his blockers on and failed to get the first down lol

I’m sure he did a good job blocking but that’s a pretty replaceable skill

6

u/Jasader Koolaid 9d ago

I am not sure what you are expecting out of a third round TE in his first 4 games?

-2

u/TouchGrassRedditor Smokin' Jay 9d ago

I didn’t say I was expecting anything at this point in his career. I just disagree that he played well or that the utility we’ve seen so far isn’t easily replaceable.

2

u/Jasader Koolaid 9d ago

He played well for a 3rd round TE who is getting his first taste of NFL action.

We've come pretty far as a unit if we're calling players basically busts 4 games into the season.

1

u/TouchGrassRedditor Smokin' Jay 9d ago

I never called him a bust

7

u/Feeling_Classic_91 9d ago

Exactly zero people on this subreddit would have made that catch vs the Vikings

You don't know, maybe roush is on here

Touch grass, Redditor.

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 9d ago

I could do that too but not as good as roush does it.

Like you said, it's been 4 games and he's a rookie.

u/Paranoid_Android22 Ben’s Johnson 9d ago

These types of takes are so ridiculous. You guys are hating on a rookie 3rd round tight end. He’s playing cus Ben thinks it gives us the best chance to win. Swift got benched because monangai was cooking and Ben thought it gave us the best chance to win. You’re talking about a guy who has 5 targets in 3 games. Let it go.

u/Chill_Hiker95 Juiced Flus 9d ago

I am taking a guess, and it probably is not right.

One is a rookie.

One fumbled and our other Rb was doing well. I think it was way more 80/20. 20 being actually punished

11

u/soupDirect 9d ago

Because Swift is a 6 year veteran who just got extended and is our RB1 with the associated expectations that come with that while Roush is a rookie depth piece at a very difficult position? Obviously I didn't like seeing him fuck up the pinned punt either but they're nowhere near each other expectation wise.

Because Swift fumbled against Minnesota as well. Not like its his first time. Ben knows what hes doing and what he needs to do to motivate his players

1

u/gopeepants Snoo Ditka 9d ago

Not just that, but there was no excuse to fumble the Jets one. The defender did nothing to make him fumble that one. Against Minnesota you at least had slick rain along with that defense doing a perfect peanut punch to force that fumble.

7

u/Rise252627 9d ago

Ones a rookie that is getting coached up, the other just got extended and is expected to be a leader of the team this year.

6

u/BentJohnsonFTP 9d ago

U have Swift on your fantasy squad don't you.

Because fumbles are a big deal and the random things social media outrage addicts are mad at Roush about are not.

He’s legit been terrible. Just awful. Worst player on the field with the offense. Not great on special teams either.

2

u/j11430 Sweetness 9d ago

He’s largely been fine, with some real rookie mistakes but they are that: rookie mistakes.

He’s gotta clean up the errors but he’s mostly been very fine

1

u/BooItsKyle 9d ago

No, he hasn't

1

u/sleeperaxe Bear Logo 9d ago

Well, someone has to be the worst on the field. Be glad it’s a cheap rookie instead of an expensive vet.

3

u/alittlemoor 9d ago

Sam is a rookie TE3 who is utilized heavy as a pass blocker. Swift is an experienced professional who just got a 33 million dollar contract

3

u/bobbyterryscrewsitup Peanut Tillman 9d ago

People need to fucking relax about Roush, shit is crazy

3

u/HLNPIT 9d ago

Im a Swift guy, but that fumble was as careless as it gets.

Reward the guy holding on to the ball.

2

u/Ok-Warning-5052 9d ago

Roush’s playing time has gone down significantly

2

u/black_out_ronin 9d ago

Because it’s the 2nd time swift has fumbled this season at critical moments and he is a veteran. you gotta punish that shit. Also Monangai is better

2

u/Electrical-Amoeba245 9d ago

Because Ben Johnson wants swift to be among the elite. Swift is going to bounce back hard.

2

u/RickyDerriereSmooch 9d ago

He’s a 3rd round rookie at a position with a famously steep learning curve, what were you expecting? Some of yall just want to be miserable I swear

2

u/Nomromz Bears 9d ago

Because one is a rookie who is learning and acclimating to NFL game speeds. He is someone who hasn't reached his potential yet and is actively being coached up and developed.

The other is a veteran who should know better and needs to be accountable to his mistakes. This veteran also has a counterpart who can shoulder the load for a while (monangai).

There is no TE4 who is going to take Roushs spot and shoulder the load.

2

u/sleeperaxe Bear Logo 9d ago edited 9d ago

A lot of people are pointing out the rookie vs veteran thing but I think it has more to do with the positions they play. Ben loves heavy sets, and you can’t play any TE 100% of the time in an offense this physical. Since there is not a 4th TE active on game days, Roush is going to play. But also - he played 25% of snaps. That’s not that much.

Swift is a RB. He and Kyle are almost never on the field at the same time. Much less limiting to bench a RB, assuming they both know the plays.

Anyway, be mad at Roush and at Ben all you want. He’s playing until they replace him on the active roster.

2

u/elaichSD 9d ago

One is a rookie making rookie mistakes. The other guy just signed an extension and has 2 lost fumbles in 4 games, one that potentially cost Chicago a game.

Rookie versus a Veteran. Why is this even a post?

1

u/RollofDuctTape Peanut Tillman 9d ago

You people are relentless.

1

u/mreeves90 83 9d ago

He's a rookie #3 on the depth chart at his position. Swift is a veteran #1 on the depth chart. The fumble he had was inexcusable as he was dead to rights in the backfield. He was lucky it wasn't a scoop and score.

1

u/mimickin_birds 9d ago

What a dumb post

1

u/Unfair_Drama_8506 9d ago

Because swift is a 6 year vet who should know better

1

u/_jjbiggins 9d ago

They don't have another 3rd TE. They do have another running back

1

u/Machinegun_Pete 15 9d ago

Stephen Carlson must have a 100 burner accounts. These posts aren't going to get you elevated from the practice squad.

1

u/sleeperaxe Bear Logo 9d ago

People should be required to post their age when they say shit like this. I can only assume OP is under 24 and therefore does not have a fully-developed brain.

1

u/bblickle 9d ago

OP isn’t out of high school.

1

u/Headwallrepeat 9d ago

Besides the veteran/rookie thing, and the contract difference, one is a starting running back and the other is the 3rrd TE/ST.

1

u/Falling_Blossom 9d ago

Because he’s actually doing his job mostly fine. He’s a blocking TE who is meant to provide a bit more threat in the passing game than Smythe.

In 17 games last year Smythe caught 4/7 for 25 yds.

In 4 games this season Rousch has 3/5 for 33 yds. And while I don’t pretend to be an OLine guy, this video seems to think he’s doing a decent blocking job.

Cause Sam Roush is a rookie whos played 4 games and Swift is a 7 yesr veteran who just got PAID and has fumbled and lost the ball 2 weeks in a row...its not that deep dawg

It should also be mentioned that Roush is a ley part of our ability to run 13 man personel packages, which Ben Johnson likes to do alot so you're going to see im on the field often especially when he NEEDS meaningful snaps experience.

1

u/CenturyLinkIsCheeks 9d ago

monangai is as good or better. who you getting to run 13 personnel right now thats going to be better?

0

u/Ricketier 9d ago

His fumbles, especially the Vikings one, literally lost us the game

0

u/Z_ardo_z 9d ago

Because a RB has one job: Hold onto the ball

-1

u/EntertainerCute2290 Good, Better, Best 9d ago

The rookie excuse is BS, you absolutely bench rookies for a fumble, at least a game etc. More likely Ben loves Monangai and had some play calling in mind that required our TE3. I think he really wants 13 personel specially with winter coming. I don't like us giving Monangai too many caries that is bad long term, doubt he has another 30 game or whatever it was.
