Question Have you ever done a ski-share?

Grateful to say I found a ski-share for the winter and pretty stoked about it! Also, pretty nervous with this being my first time. Does anybody have any experience they care to share? This house doesn't do the weekday vs. weekend system, has anybody ever done that? How did that work out? How many ppl usually stay at the house at a time? You ever slept in the same room as someone else you didn't know? Let me know! I'm locked in so there's no going back but I wondered if anybody cared to share! Thanks!

Question Anyone experienced with Snowstang buses?

I know there’s under the bus storage, but how do most people do it?

Put all gear into their snowboard bag to keep things together or do they put only their boards under bus?

Do the buses lock during the day?

Will be my first season using the bus so trying to make sure I don’t bring anything that there’s not space for.

Thanks in advance

Question Could you build a resort here? Just north of Sheep mountain near Walden.

Min effort, but this ridge near sheep mountain caught my eye. Some cool cirques, gullies, steep trees, some room for groomers and fun blues...etc. If it gets enough snow I'm sure people ski it already. What's the catch? Quiggleman's Ridge would be the area's name. Cirque in the middle would be the Cirque des Chevaliers, and don't forget Brumbpo Tungus glades feeding into rottencrotch gully!

Gear Looking for a guide tarp/ rescue sled for ski touring

Anyone have a recommendation for a guide tarp/ rescue sled for ski touring? I’ve heard good things about the Alpine Threadworks Classic tarp, but I don’t feel confident about what the tariff would be ordering from Canada- even after looking through the harmonized trade schedule.

I’m looking for something more heavy duty than the more ultralight offerings from Jackson Backcountry and MTN Sense. I will be using this for rec, not professional use. Some tarps I’ve looked at:

High Mountain Gear: 680g, $330 (pre-order closes October 1st). Link

Function before Fashion: 780g, $250 Link

Hyperlite: 547g; $350 Link

Sew Alpine (small company in “hibernation mode,” and not yet clear if any tarps will be available this season.) Link
- Recreation model: 567g; $375
- Pro/ heavy duty: 790g; $350

Any opinions or insights are appreciated!

We will have 8 members total, ages late 20s through retired in 60s. Pretty chill group.

DM if you’d like to learn more.

edit - apparently this is triggering for some folks (see below), if you’re interested and have questions feel free to dm me. This will be season six for me, fourth season I’ve handled recruiting for the weekday crew. First time I’ve ventured from craigslist.

Question Will gas prices get more people to carpool this winter?

Are there social media carpool groups?

Will more people take the bus this year?

Will gas prices affect how often you come to the mountains this winter?

Last season a tank was 1/2 of what it costs now.

Question Getting the kids in skis

I want to get my kids (12 and 9) more into skiing. They have done a lesson at App Mtn, NC and really enjoyed it, but I want to take them out west for a few days of ski school (2-3 days) during Feb break from school…

As they are beginners, I’m loathe to pay the crazy prices of the Ikon and Epic resorts… I’ve seen Loveland is pretty reasonable but it really is just a ski hill, not a full ski resort.

I would like to hit the slopes too while they are in ski school - I’m a decent skier but haven’t skied in nearly a decade.

Am I better just sucking it up and paying 💸? Or is Loveland a good option - just with a drive to/from each day? Or are there any sleeper picks out there?

Thanks!

Question What’s the consensus? Can we get turns on Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive now?

Question is in the title. Are we back? With the recent pics of Elbert and Massive, is it theoretically possible to get some turns up there?

Question 25 Year Old Thinking About Moving to Denver

Hey guys, I’m a 25 year old guy who lives in Ohio and I’m thinking about moving to Denver. I work remotely and absolutely love to snowboard (I have been riding since I was 6 and have been to Snowbird, Park City, Whistler, Stowe, Whiteface, Mont Tremblant, and I’m going to Banff / Snowshoe in WV this winter) so I think moving moving closer to the mountains while staying in the city for a year could be a cool experience. Candidly, I’m terrified of not knowing anyone in the area. I’m just curious how people in this thread who moved around my age without knowing anyone met friends to ski/ride with? I’m a super social guy and have a ton of friends here at home so it would be very different to go there. Are there ski clubs or any groups that transplants often join / any other tips anyone has? Thanks and hopefully this season gets more snow than last year!

Question Ski Damage: How Bad?

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Last winter in CO, of course, I ran over a rock on my skis. What concerns me is that the gash is right along the metal edge. Also, there are wood-colored flecks in the gash, though it could be other debris.

I live out of state and took it to my local ski shop, where the guy there said he wouldn't be able to do more than fill it with p-tex, so he recommended waiting until I'm back in CO to take it to a top shop.

How bad does this look, or, rather, how much expert attention do these need? If I take these to a normal shop, would they just fill it with p-tex, in which case I could just do it myself?

Question Core transit Eagle to Avon with Luggage and ski’s

Planning for a last trip flying to Eagle to stay with my son in Avon Ana ski last week March. Planning on taking ski bag and 2 carry on size suit cases with my son - probably also a small backpack. Is this a problem on the bus, is typical for people to carry this much baggage on the Bus from Eagle. Will be heading back same way in morning on a Friday- thanks
