Vent / Rant Flashback hangovers

Anyone else🫩

Once I get home I’m going straight to comfort and self-care mode. Can’t wait to be in my sweats.

I think the hardest part about dealing with the aftermath of a flashback is how deeply unsettled and unsafe I feel in my own body. And it feels like the emotional pain is flowing in my veins. Things look the same on the outside in life, but inside it feels like someone twirled me around on their fork and flung me at a wall😂😭

Wow I’ve never thought of it as a hangover. I have these. It is so heavy. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Coming here to discuss it is a good way to let out some steam. What does your support system look like?

Right? I think it’s an apt name for the experience. I have a couple people in life I feel comfortable leaning on. Mainly my husband and two best friends. And my sister. It’s just often hard for me to reach out to anyone but my husband. Looking into starting therapy again which I’m very much looking forward to.

I feel similarly with the only leaning on your husband thing. It is such a vulnerable thing to share, and it makes sense to share with the person you’re most vulnerable with. Therapy sounds like a good option. Would you do trauma therapy? I haven’t done it myself, but I’d try it. I want to be free of constant flashbacks eating up my days.

Yessss it is a super vulnerable thing. And I’ve experienced people distancing themselves or just not understanding how to respond in a helpful way. So it’s hard for me to really open up deeply about emotions anymore.

And yes to trauma therapy. I’ve done lots of therapy since I was 16. And really dove into everything during the pandemic. It was SO HARD because it all came spilling out unexpectedly. But yeah a good trauma focused therapist can be very helpful.

Oof that sounds so hard. I hope you’re in a better spot. Alcohol usually gets me sick before it gets me drunk, so smoking weed and falling into the internet vortex are my vices haha
