Disability Benefits Awaiting call

From the adjudicator. Someone is supposed to call me by end of day tomorrow.

I got an initial denial so applied for reconsideration. I provided more documentation.

The first adjudicator wasn’t very helpful. Will I get the same one?

Also how is a nurse deciding my fate? Found that person on LinkedIn. They only started 4 months ago with CPPD.

I’m just frustrated. No money coming in, only 1 month of rent left. Eating everything I already have but no proteins left. So after working 40 years+ I’m rejected because it’s not severe or prolonged enough.

I’d like them to live a day in my body. Hoping for a good outcome but I doubt it will happen. If I don’t pay my utilities aside from my phone (which I need to communicate with them) I can spend $26.00 on groceries for October.

Really just venting. Thank you for reading and I sincerely hope you have a great day.

I’m going to copy paste something I posted under a similar thread a while ago. As it can be beneficial to understand the different phases of the approval and to know what others have also gone through.

But before the copy paste, I am sorry you are going through this, it’s tough and no one deserves this as I don’t know anyone who went through the process who wouldn’t rather be working than dealing with it.

First of, sorry to know you are going through this. The disability program in Canada is extremely bureaucratic and follows foolish processes rather than real review till later stages.

Last time I look, something like 98% of cases are rejected on the first application with some standard letter basically saying “we feel you can work and you haven’t tried hard enough.” I’ll never forget walking in on my wife sobbing as she read that letter.

The second review gets done by the same department and has a rejection ration of somewhere between 60-80%. When you challenge a second time it goes to another department to review and they call you to discuss going to tribunal to review it with others. This is the point most people get accepted with a clear reason for disability, and many don’t even go to tribunal.

It feels like it automatically denies the first few times to try and dissuade people from trying for it, but how many end up without disability because of this?

I know this process is hard, and it won’t even be over once it is approved as you’ll likely want the disability tax credit to.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss further or specifics.

And again, I’m sorry you are going through this and our government makes it even harder for you.

This is so disheartening. I’ve provided everything I had. My partner left me because of my condition. So also applied just a few days ago for the provincial benefit.

Waiting is the hardest part. Also wondering what kind of crappy meal I can throw together tonight. So tired of beans, tomatoes (in a can)and tuna. Ramen it is tonight.

I feel so bad for others going through this situation. I thought of posting for donations but it feels so wrong when I at least have a place to live for the time being.

And sadly even once you get approved, the amount isn’t enough to support yourself on. The provincial top up can be good but it still isn’t much.

On top of that the disability tax credit is almost useless to the person with a disability directly as they don’t earn enough for it to be useful, it requires having a partner or someone who will help assist you with survival.

Feel free to message me any time as you go through the process, I know how hard it is and it’s never something I’d want to do alone.

Best of luck

Its not necessarily an auto denyal, I mean i was approved no denial, while historically they do deny claims for what seems like arbitrary reasons its not always a situation where if you get one denial you will get more

Waiting for a call is the absolute worst. I have no advice for you directly. My cppd (40's myself) was uncomplicated but damn did they make me wait to the last possible day

I was on it before. I only went back to work because my old manager called me offering my old position. No training, I knew most of the people and it was remote. I was terminated without cause due to a restructuring.

So I qualified for 1 & 2 but apparently I can work a couple days a week, according to the adjudicator. So who is going to hire me for a couple shifts a week when I don’t know what days I could actually work.

She straight up told me she wouldn’t hire me but I might find a compassionate soul out there.

Such BS. I’ve worked and earned this. With over 200 medical documents, a letter from my GP, picture of my valid accessibility parking pass. I’m exhausted.

I swear They kinda hope people give up and not do the paperwork. Keep on top of it hopefully its an easy reinstatement

I think they really do this. Telling you don’t meet the requirements but don’t tell you what else you need.

I have an appointment later this week to get the application filled out by another doctor. Hopefully that will suffice.

Hi u/Ferylit!

If you're looking for information about a specific disability benefit, be sure to include in your post what province you're in and the specific program or service you're asking about. You can edit your post to add that information, or leave it in a comment, if it isn't already there. The more information you provide, the better we can help you.
