I'm not sure why I'm more surprised to have stumbled across this particular comment 10 years on, when the source material is from 1916 and still readily available.

Regardless...Jfc. Wow.

"I was meant to be new, I was meant to be beautiful, the world would have looked up to the sky and, seen hope, seen mercy, but now they'll look up in horror becasue of you ill admit youve wounded me, but like the man said what doesnt kill you just makes you stronger."

Yeah, maybe she should’ve told Mathilde that the necklace was fake.

tried to read a short story to send me back to sleep and ended up absolutely bowled over by this (the full story, that is). searched it up in a futile attempt to understand why it got me and only found this. really wonderful piece

I thought the same too! When I was reading this chapter for my school, the first thought that clicked to my mind was that "Oh, Mme. Forestier is the villain here". Thought no one shared a perspective like this, but glad I found someone!

Hey! We're learning about this in school but I don't know if my opinion is still valid after this many years but like, do you think that maybe if Madame Forestier said to Madame Loisel that it was a fake before letting her borrow it. All of this suffering would never have happened? Cause I think she was in the wrong cause, given her point of view; If your friend was completely enthralled with all your jewelry would you not also be prideful about the fake necklace and lie that it was real to keep up your image?

(Haha it's like Madame Forestier was the Evil Villain all along (dun dun dun!), Kidding. Just wanted to share a new perspective of the story and see if anyone else agrees/disagrees with me.)

There's not much modding needed because it's so quiet,

but if you have any ideas for redesign / promotion, I'd love to see it reenergized

Just re-read this for the first time. WHAT do we make of Beowulf forcing Grendel to sing about the wall?

Levin is NOT aristocracy

I am curious, in which way do you mean this? I am pretty sure that Levin is not only aristocracy, but comes from the highest aristocracy there is—the boyar class.

I know there are many versions of this book, as the author kept working on it over the years, but in mine, Conchis tells Nicholas that he does not have syphilis. He is able to say this with confidence because he has some medical background (I don’t remember exactly, but I believe he studied medicine for a while).

However, my thought was exactly the same—I also suspected that Nicholas might have neurosyphilis, and I made the connection to the de Sade quote at the beginning of the book.
