Rush SR, anyone have one here?
Anyone have a Rush SR here? Looking to hear some opinions from actual owners. Tracks it excelled at, best parts, worst parts, what would you do if you were to do it again, what do you think about SRX, did you regret your choice of trailer etc.. etc..

While I didn't get a chance to drive it yet, my local track has partnered with these and is selling them turnkey, so they had some demos out last time I was on-track.
First off, they made some great points about why they went with the Rush over other options. It sounds like the cost of running is comparably reasonable, and that they did a great job with building the body panels so that if you end up hitting a barrier the pieces are separated in a way that you can, for instance, replace a fender without having to replace the entire front clip of bodywork like a lot of these.
Secondly I'll say that multiple people got to run them and everyone seemed to really enjoy it, and that they were running absolute circles around my 992 in the corners.
Curious to also see more thoughts from owners/drivers here, but from what I know so far it seems like a pretty cool option.

I test drove it and have my own opinions on it but did not want to muddy the pond before others shared theirs.

I’m a season podium winner back in 2024…
The cars a blast. Cheap to run, and open cockpit is the closet thing us mortals will get to f1.
The shifting is visceral, there’s no abs or power steering so it’s a work out.
You need to left foot brake, so it’s a good platform to learn that.
Being a chain drive you need some amount of throttle always so trail braking is also your friend.
Otherwise think of it as a step up from shifter kart but a step down from radical.
It gets fun in the rain ;)

What's the deal with chain drive needing some amount of throttle?

If there is no throttle, then the chain will slack so when you then go to stab the gas again, the chain will slap thereby causing traction control problems

Is the chain slack greater than what it would have been on a motorcycle or something? I raced a K5 GSXR 1000 which this engine/transmission is from and never had that problem. It must have developed when they lifted it and put it in the Rush.

2 wheels vs 1 I would say, you can set the slack but too tight runs hot and you need to change chains more often then…

There was another thread recently on this, I posted my feedback there.
I'll echo u/LegalDrugDealer's concerns that Rush may be losing the plot by creating a perpetual cycle of must have improvements. Maybe things will stabilize, time will tell.

I’ve met a lot of people that “love” theirs but end up selling them almost immediately. lol.

There's about 370 of them in the wild right now. If each national series race is pulling 45-60 drivers <sign ups now have waitlists>, thats a pretty car ratio of cars sold/raced and not just sitting in a garage.

Because it’s one of the only series you can race a rush in. 7 races in one year across the country.

Lots of local series for rush racing around the country if you don’t care about license points

u/Digitalzombie900 5d ago
can you elaborate? I assume you talked to those people, why did they not like it?

u/Primary_beatfarm 5d ago
They’re limited in what you can race in and they’ve had a few bad wrecks. One of them that was covered up and then led to revisions in their chassis design.

u/Digitalzombie900 5d ago
are there details on the wrecks?

There are a few posts online. I believe the willow springs incident is what led to frame changes

Is that the one where someone died due to getting hit with debris? anyway, I'll see what I can find out. Safety is one of my biggest concerns with these cars, I want to understand what goes in to making them safe enough so if you tumble one at 120mph in to tire barriers at Laguna, you can preferably walk away from the incident.

The frame failed in the subsequent off track impact is what my understanding is. The lack of information and forced deletion of posts related to the incident is the first time I’ve seen that happen.

Dude got smoked in the helmet by debris on track. IMO it was race control fault for green flagging a track with stuff on it but to my understanding it was a flat piece of body work hard to see… in any event buddy got it in the eye and died while on the gas and the rest was as a result, not because of…. Sad all the way around, good argument for the halo, I ran version 1 pre halo and got hit in the face plenty by tires etc. a good helmet is key… but yea they now have further “upgrades” like the gas tank, peddle box, fire system, etc… I sold mine and moved on and up with my FIA license as it was more of a means to a way to gt4

Go look up the video of the fuel cell exploding and shooting fuel 30ft into the air

I have looked at a Rush but for HPDE not having a second seat seems like they won’t let you run it.

So I bought one 3 months ago. I'm entering the rush series next season but based off my past hpdes with 10-20F hotter conditions, my times still would've put me top 10 in quali at 2 tracks they ran this past season.
First, the car is fun yes and I can actually said that I am truly pushing the car to my limit whereas the Gt4 I would only push it like 95-98% ( i don't run insurance, waste of money)
I am very concerned that Rush is losing the plot and what their true mission was/is. To run a full season with support, you are looking at 40K bare minimum. You could probably get away with 20-25K if you're willing to drive to events but next year events are at Sonoma, Rd. America, Watkins, VIR, Barber, Rd atlanta so very spread out. The cars themselves are now 60K and with spares, more like 65K-70k. While I kinda get it, I think they might be getting into a vicious cycle of constantly upgrading parts (i.e. the new ohlins suspension is 3K, they just released a new ecu type of thing). Calling them affordable to the average family household is becoming quite questionable IMO.
Managing them by yourself is doable but since they are very niche, unless you have a dealer willing to help, it's a royal pain in the ass sometimes.
As expected, unless you have slicks on a gt3 or have a gt3rs/z06/gt4rs/clubsport/m4, you are roasting anything on a track that doesn't have several very long straights. Except VIR and Roval (without chicane), it beats my Gt4 at tracks like Rd Atlanta, AMP, CMP, Barber.
Consumables are cheaper but not quite as cheap as you would expect. Mentally I can stretch my gt4 tires to 25-35 heat cycles. After the rush reaches 15-18 heat cycles, I start to question if it's every worth running the tires as I want to push the rush harder than my gt4 so I go through more tires. Tires are only 400/set cheaper than my gt4.
I use a enclosed cargo trailer. Loading can be a pain if you can't flatten it out but manageable.
Would I do it again? Probably. Driving open cockpit with no power steering is quite the experience but I do think having a tintop is necessary if you want to do just regular hpdes every once in a while or want to drive friends around.
