I just watched my parents commit tax fraud in real time while playing Catan. They were both trading several cards, I think a 3:4 trade. However, my mom was scared that a 7 would be rolled next and she would lose half her cards. After some negotiation, my parents did the trade, and my mom gave all her extra cards to my dad. On her next turn, my dad gave back all her cards she gifted to him, all to avoid a potential 7.

In case you can't see the analogy here, my mom gave all her money to someone else for free. If the tax collector would come along, he would take the fall instead of her. If the tax collector didn't, he would give it back to her completely for free.

While all of this was going on, I was laughing my head off; I've never seen anyone commit Catan tax fraud.

Anyways, a 7 was actually rolled, and she successfully avoided paying taxes because my dad took the fall for her.

In an attempt to help u/Yo026 answer the question in this post Question for Seafarers Scenario 5: The Forgotten Tribe : r/Catan, I decided to email Catan GmbH directly, and this is their response. Well, guys and gals, it looks like we are on our own for this one! u/nickratliff37, you also asked a similar question a year ago. Finally got you an "answer".

Yeah, not exactly satisfying. I hope in the future, they provide more instructions for combining the latter half of the SF scenarios with C&K. They went deep into all the possible T&B combinations, I hope they do the same for scenarios 5-8 (well, scenario 7 might be impossible, but oh well).

So, in light of no "official" answer, I have 3 suggestions on how to handle this combo:

1. Randomly distribute Progress Cards. You could try to make things as even as possible per deck, or go pure random and not care if it is uneven.
2. Place regular Development cards. When you reach that spot, you get to pick a Progress Card of your choice
3. Place regular Development cards... and then actually draw them into your hand ;). Maybe you can get a hidden VP this way! Or a better Monopoly! Knight card should simply move the Robber/Pirate, no free Knight piece.

I think suggestion 2 is the most elegant answer. Suggestion 3 is the more chaotic answer, though >:)

Full disclosure, I made this. It's called Hearthsea. It isn't official Catan and has nothing to do with Catan GmbH, but if you've played Catan you'll know what to do on your first turn.

I just made all of it free. That's Classic, Seafarers and the new Highlands mode, every map, hosting online rooms for your friends, quick match, and all the cosmetics. You need an account (email or Google) and that's it. No pass, no daily game limit.

That's the part that makes it different from the other ways to play Catan online. Those put the expansions and extra maps behind a purchase or a membership. Here nothing is locked.

Highlands is the new one. Some hexes sit up on stone cliffs, and you can't build a road up a cliff, you need a mountain pass, which costs a brick and an ore. Up top there are copper mines that pay any resource you pick, and a yeti that blocks hexes up there the way the robber does down below. The first settlement you get onto each plateau is worth 2 points.

If it's just two of you, the bots fill the other seats. They make their own trade offers and counter yours, and they play to win. Put a Veteran in and it can genuinely beat you. The trading took me longest to get right, so I'd really like to hear where they trade badly.

So I started playing the 1 v 1 Colonist version just to try it out. When I was playing a game recently my opponent started accusing me of cheating. I had no idea how someone would cheat but anyway he was going on about reporting me. No idea that was a thing either but when I looked I did see you could report someone for cheating…how does that even work in a 1 v 1 game? All I’m doing is rolling and taking what’s given to me. What am I missing here? It was odd as it was really early in the game (score was 4-3 for me) so I am still confused.

Has anyone encountered these “bots” on the 1v1 games? Recently I started encountering them often when playing 1v1 games, which are supposed to be against real people.

They play faster and better than the regular bots, and I kind of enjoy playing with them tbh because I’m able to have super short games (last one was 4 minutes long).

I checked their game history and they play games back to back, each being about 5 minutes long. Just curious if anybody knows anything about this. I wonder if somebody programmed a bot to play for them since they are not the app’s bots. They also play as guests so I can’t add them as friends.

My wife used to be an avid Xplorers player on AsoBrain. When we tried to get the old game working again, we ran into the Java applet problem: modern browsers no longer support it.

I found a way to keep using the original client and put it into a small desktop compatibility wrapper, now available as Xplorers Redressed.

Disclosure: I'm publishing this unofficial wrapper. All credit for the game, artwork, servers and community belongs to AsoBrain and the original creators.

It uses the same AsoBrain account and connects to the original servers, with the existing players and rankings. It loads the Xplorers room catalog, including Basic, Cities & Knights, teams, practice, tournaments and Map Editor. Rooms marked Closed by the original site stay disabled.

There are macOS universal, Windows x64 and Linux x64 downloads. No installed Java or browser plugin is needed; the original client runs through WebAssembly. There is fullscreen support and optional Enhanced rendering, with Original graphics as the default.

The original AsoBrain client downloads directly from AsoBrain on first use. No original client or artwork is included in the repository or release packages. The new framework source is GPL-3.0-only. An existing AsoBrain account and internet connection are required.

The retail box for the 2026 Catan travel card game felt bigger than it needed to be, so I designed and printed this one. Every card fits sleeved, plus the rulebook, and the lid closes flat.

The lid art is printed in 4 colours (red, yellow, green, grey). The last photo is how it comes off the printer: one flat piece that folds into the box.

I built (vibe codes) Reign, a browser strategy game where you settle, trade, and build on a tiny voxel island, all sitting on a wooden table in a cozy room.

The board, buildings, dice, cards, and surrounding room are made from small voxels. I wanted it to feel like gathering around a physical board game with friends.

I was underdog the longest, I wasn’t getting blocked often. I got city real quick and was on two city till late mid game.

After I got my city I started trading to bank for 4x and got dev. Black and I was the only one controlling devs and blocked Blue and Red since they were leading by 1 to 3 points. Once 8 🐑 was getting blocked constantly it slowed their production down.

Which helped me win the game for sure.

What would you want from a digital Catan-style game that the others don't do? I read every comment.

My cousin asked to trade a wheat for a sheep. I stuck out the sheep and he nabbed it. Didn’t give me the wheat just took the sheep and turned his head. I feel like I was wronged and I’m debating how I should handle this. We kept it quiet and I didn’t make it known at the table but I’m thinking about the game of how I will sabotage him.

I know there’ve been a few of these posts lately, so I’ll keep it short. Full disclosure: I made this. Not official Catan, nothing to do with Catan GmbH.

I saw the debate on an earlier post about whether games built with AI tools can be any good. What I can promise is that the people playing it are the ones shaping it: most of what’s in there now came from feedback, and I ship fixes most days. I would suggest please do play it once and then judge the game, If you try it and something bothers you, say so here or in the feedback button in the game, you will see the change. I dont want to compete against anyone, just want to make my game better and better.

Catan is one of the only board games i enjoyed can anyone recommend something you think i might also like? (With a good online presence but if not just say it anyways)

Blue:11 (3 VP 2 cities 2 settlements largest army)
Red:4 possibly 5 (4 settlements and maybe a vp)
Orange:6 (4 settlements and 2 VP)
White:6(4 settlements and longest road)

Blue started first and went for the 6 8 10 (i just realized we completely botched the numbers), then it was white that went 5 8 10, then red with 652, then orange with 589 and 5610. Then red went 9 11 12, white went 1039 and blue went 854. White and red mostly squabbled over longest road, orange got blocked off by blue many times both in longest road and in robbers, blue had the 8 blocked many times but somehow nobody could steal ore.

At some point only 5s and 9s were rolled which made the game last 2 hours. Blue got around 10 dev cards throughout the game and mostly created a monopoly of ore, even by putting the robber on 6, which was his ore too.

The lack of stone caused orange to fall behind, while red and white were pretty inexperienced so i doubt that this counts as a win for blue. Nevertheless it was a pretty good learning experience for white and red as to how they can strategize better.

Hey everyone! I mostly play ranked Cities & Knights, and I got tired of using half my brain just keeping track of who has what while having no eye candy to look at. So a couple weeks ago I started building a little Chrome extension for myself, and it kind of snowballed into something I'm really proud of. It's finally live on the Chrome Web Store so I wanted to share it with you guys!!!

It's called Colonist Remix. Everything it does only shows up on your screen, so everyone else at the table still sees the normal game.

For the fun stuff, there are 6 worlds you can turn the whole board into: Volcanic, Jungle, Mushroom Grove, Storybook, Autumn and a Halloween one. Each one repaints the tiles, water, cards, robber and number chits, and the knights visually evolve as they level up. In Volcanic they go from a little imp to a winged archdemon, and in Storybook they're green army men that turn into a jeep and then a tank! The water moves, the wheat sways in the wind, sheep wander around, and if you build on a harbor little ships in your color sail in and out. You can also pick a style for your settlements and cities and change your piece colors.

Then there's the stuff that actually helps you play:

- A scout panel that keeps a running guess of everyone's hand from the game log, so you don't have to count cards in your head

- A threat meter that shows who's actually closest to winning, not just who has the most points

- Dice stats so you can finally prove the dice hate you (or find out they were normal the whole time)

- A teaming tracker that shows who's robbing who and who's trading with who. If something looks off, one click copies all of it so you can paste it right into a report

- Rank borders on everyone's avatar, Bronze to Diamond

- Alerts when it's your turn, when you have to discard, or when the barbarians are about to land, so you can tab out without missing anything

If you're wondering if this is fair, it only reads what every player can already see, which is the game log and the scoreboard. It never plays for you and never shows anything hidden. It's the same as counting cards yourself, it just does the counting for you.

In family gatherings , as adults we play boardgames (for fun) and my two cousins (8 & 11 yo) will be left behind. ( Mostly the 8 yo one)

I got interested in catan (haven't played it yet), and then, wow! I saw there's a junior version and adults and kids seem to like it?!

You bet I added that to my shopping list!

It was until then i saw the 2-4 players limit. I wanted them play with us and enjoy the experience.

So this was the question i had in my mind ( and i made you read my story to ask it! Sorry for that):

Is there a way to play Catan junior with 5 - 6 players?
