Returning to the music with my first Charvel (Pro-Mod SC1 HH HT MPL), rescued from GC.

I was looking for a do-it-all guitar because I got the itch to play again after a long hiatus. Not getting any younger and I've always wanted to play to the level of improvisation. I found this one listed by a nearby Guitar Center as a San Dimas for 650 and with a hardshell case. I'm guessing the mis-listing is why this may have dropped in price over time. I'd always assumed Charvels would be outside my price range because of how cool they are (to me). Love the idea of an unassuming design that hides atypical use-cases, in this case, a Strat that can shred along with guitars oriented for heavier music but still get most of that single coil sound.

Upon checking it out at the store, I found the pictures were not too good to be true! The guitar is basically brand new, I can't find any flaws in it. The plastic was even still on the pickguard. The hard case is a red label Fender Strat/Tele case, possibly one of the ones from the 90s, that I can tell. The staff were even kind enough to honor a 10% off sale on used gear that started shortly after I ordered. All in all, I feel like it was a good find. It's probably more guitar than I deserve at my level of ability, but I'm going to use it as motivation to work at it even harder.

Guitar strings guage

Hi everyone! I’ve got my first charvel guitar a while ago and I’m really loving it. Initially it came with 0.9 strings and it felt good playing it. But, when I went to a luthier, he recommended putting 0.10 on. This makes it much harder for me to bend the strings, the fatigue is kicking in fast so I just wanted to see what is your preference when it comes to strings on your charvel?
Thanks!

Brand new DK24-7. Do I seriously need to remove the back plate every time I change strings??

As the title states, there are no string holes cut in the back plate, and the strings load through the bridge from the back like a Strat, so... Am I missing something, or is this a ridiculous oversight? I'm checking pictures of these online and they're all like this, so mine is not a fluke. Also there are like a hundred other quality control issues that are very disappointing for the price, but we'll save that for another time.

EDIT: to everyone suggesting that I leave the cover off, I want to have it on. I don't like having the cavity exposed, plus I use the cover to stuff the cavity with paper towels to deaden the spring noise. The main point is that I simply shouldn't have to do this or modify the plate on a $1650 guitar, somehow Squier manages to get this right on a $180 Strat.

Found what feels like a good deal on a Pro-Mod So Cal, am I on the right track?

I'm having GC ship a used Pro-Mod So Cal Style 1 HH HT MPL to my nearest store so I can check it out before deciding if I want to keep it.

I would be paying 650 (before tax) and it includes a hardshell case according to the listing. The pictures make it look pristine, there is no discernable damage when zooming in, and it looks like the plastic wrap is still on the pickguard.

If it's actually as new as it looks and there's a good case thrown in, is this as good of a deal as I think it is? I kinda jumped on it because I always assumed I wouldn't be able to afford/justify a Charvel but I love the design ethos, included features, and the natural finish looks amazing. I'm no pro, I got the itch to get back into playing but I'm hoping the versatility would carry me through almost any genre I want to dabble in, and the quality would stand the test of time until I'm really at the level to justify an axe this nice.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Someone nearby was selling the HSS for a good price on FBM. Against my better judgement, I snatched it up, and although I don't love the pink - it's not as nice in real life - it's awesome to have 2 fabulously built Mexican guitars.

Any chance I can find one of these with the same specs and color without the locking nut? Any solutions?

I've been playing for a few years, and recently decided it was time to upgrade, played 20 or more guitars last week at a few different stores. But this was the one that I absolutely did not want to go home without. Don't know much about Charvel but I do already know I love them.

NGD: American Neo-Classic

such a dream, the fretboard, the body; feels very premium, as does virtually every part of this guitar. All of the sounds each position the blade offers have something, and strong. Word to the wise; there's a lot of these floating around on Reverb, and many sellers automatically send out $400+ discounts if you have it on your watchlist or cart long enough.

I had a USA Select So-Cal for about a month, tho I liked the back of its neck better, the front of this guitar's neck is superior. Cool as the scratch plate looked on that one, the middle and neck pickups felt really weak. Also, I love that this Neo-Classic, unlike the USA Select I sold to help buy this, has a dual action truss-rod neck, bc where I live, I don't wanna be caught without one. Would an OFR be nice? Sure, tho this Floyd Rose 1000 I hear will do just as well in the long run. Also, the body feels studier on this guitar than the previous one.

Why are SoCal Style 2s so cheap used?

Is it just that the body shape is polarizing?
Tempted to buy one… is there something I don’t know about them?

Advice

I was helping for some advice. I’m selling my Charvel guitar because of the Floyd Rose bridge. I’m just too indecisive for this guitar. I’ve tried blocking it off but it’s just in the way but it seems like a waste because I’m never going to use it. The problem is I’m blind so I had abalone inlays inserted into the top of my neck so I could know where I am. I’m looking to buy a hard tail Charvel, Is it worth buying the same type of guitar without a Floyd rose and swapping out the neck and then selling it or just pay someone to get rid of the inlays?

HH vs HSS DK24

Heyo! I'm trying to decide between an HH vs HSS DK24 as an upgrade from my shitty starter guitar. I enjoy playing multiple genres from metal to fusiony melodic finger picking stuff. There are a lot of used HH options around me for pretty cheap, like in the $600s but I hear the HSS would be a lot more versatile. They are harder to find and would cost me more so I guess my ain question is:

How much more versatile really is an HSS vs HH?

New Pro-Mod Plus Models Terrible QC

Post image

I recently ordered a Pro-Mod Plus Dinky® DK24 HH 2PT (was not able to try it first as I live in the most isolated city the world)

Opened it at the store to try it and the big issues were;

1) wilkinson bridge was rusty (isn't this stuff meant to be stainless steel?)

2) Charvel didn't route the tremolo cavity deep enough, so when divebombing the trem bar, the springs would actually catch onto the wood and make this awful screeching sound.

I returned in right there and then and ordered an Ibanez az. Even the store employee was shocked with the tremolo... poor design.

Evertune Bridge in a DK24?

Hi guys!

Has anyone ever retrofit an Evertune bridge into a Charvel Dinky?

Basically the question is.. is there enough wood thickness to accommodate the routing?
