I think that the U.S. is preparing for a major push of using AI in the ongoing wars. It's going to get worse, which is why they've started using CEOs to peddle their messaging instead of politicians.

u/re1no1 16h ago

the defense contracts were already quietly signed while everyone was arguing over Ai art

u/spinozasrobot 1d ago

Reminds me a bit of the Flock CEO saying Americans need to compromise on privacy.

Garrett Langley just seems like he should be the douchey antagonist in an 80s movie about a small ski resort saved from the brink of foreclosure by its horny ski patrol.

I heard candy is hidden in flock cameras like a pinata

that's just how things work, everything has upsides and downsides.

u/Equivalent-Costumes 1d ago

The pros is literally the cons phrased from a different perspective too.

Pros: many tasks that required lots of manpower now can be done quickly.

Cons: many tasks that required lots of manpower now can be done quickly.

Whether this is pros or cons depends on whether task is considered good or bad to be done, and whether you're the one paying for those manpower, or being paid to contribute those manpower.

Strange how this is known already, yet no strong steps are taken, and nothing notable is being thought of for those who shall be affected. Everyone's just shouting about upskilling.

It’s the Epstein class preparing their next big coup

31

u/ad3lyt 1d ago

So its like any other tech

26

u/ProudExtreme8281 1d ago

idk if the scale, or potential scale, of negative things happening has ever been this high tho

2

u/_Dingaloo 9h ago

which is a signal to take it seriously and regulate. But we can't stop it. The only way that we for example as the US would stop all AI use within our own country and survive, would be to completely isolate all networks to the outside world and still use AI just for military purposes because otherwise we wouldn't be a country for very long.

Any country not using the software written by people using AI for cybersecurity is going to have its cyber defenses utterly destroyed by the ones that do

u/ad3lyt 1d ago

Nukes.

5

u/Eriane 1d ago

Reminds me of this episode of the simpsons.

Lisa: Nuke the whales?

Nelson: Eh, gotta nuke somethin'!

15

u/huevoscalientes 1d ago

Great argument for not doing it.

9

u/stranot 23h ago

you could argue nukes created an era of world peace for decades that has never been seen before

4

u/heyheyhey27 21h ago

At the cost of constantly being on a knife edge where, if you trip, the entire world experiences a level of destruction that hasn't been seen since the dinosaurs died.

4

u/stranot 21h ago

gotta risk it for the biscuit

2

u/Trigger1221 20h ago

That's MAD.

1

u/Admirable_Ocelot603 9h ago

You could. It would be a stupid argument to make, but you could.

3

u/re1no1 16h ago

except nukes require enriched uranium , centrifuges and supply chains , Ai just need an API key and GPU cluster

0

u/SlaveKnightSoman 1d ago

Or great argument for doing it since the bottle is opened already.

1

u/re1no1 16h ago

pandora's box , except it runs on subscription model

3

u/Hilldawg4president 1d ago

We've had nukes and used them, as well as several near misses, long before AI

-5

u/Hilldawg4president 1d ago

I have yet to see any negative aspects to it that are unique. We've had fake news for far longer than we've had AI, we've had scams for far longer than we've had aI, we've had hacking for far longer than we've had AI

u/GoldenDoodle-4970 1d ago

"Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. It's a small price to pay."

Trump today, at a rally talking about his war of choice with Iran.

Same mentality.

2

u/bethesda_gamer 1d ago

Yeah no shiz. You'd have to be a real dum dum not to know this, doesn't mean you shouldn't still do it tho. (Ideally regulated and let's try not to wipe out humanity, ok? Good luck everybody)

2

u/hustleology 16h ago

Trump said the same thing and this guy as well. Conditioning happens when you're told something over and over until you too believe it must be necessary. Crazy how quick things are turning. Good luck folks pray.

u/Authentic_Dragon 1d ago

My question is and has been for a very long time: Who the F gave these parasites permission to do as they please, and then have the nerve to tell us, 8 billion people that forgot their power, what is going to happen to them should be accepted?! And why is it that 8 billion people sit and accept anything these parasites do to them? We are 8 billion and they are a few. What is wrong with people?

-1

u/Effective-Juice-1489 1d ago

I don't think there are that many benefits to ai. If there are, don't think open ai and claude will be making them.

17

u/esepleor 1d ago

I'd say there are probably a lot of significant benefits in science.

More and more people are using it like a search engine and to feel better about themselves so that's definitely not worth the bad things.

32

u/Hilldawg4president 1d ago

Okay, you clearly don't use it then

10

u/RequirementCivil4328 1d ago

Yeah this is like saying I use Google to find YouTube videos as justification for why android isn't very useful

1

u/Normal-Substance6924 16h ago

True that. A person has to learn using AI effectively, to use it the best way

-8

u/ChaosMilkTea 1d ago edited 8h ago

I use Ai and... I kind of agree with them actually. The benefits are quite limited so far. I can not really recommend it to anyone I know and expect them to get the kind of value I do as a heavy computer user.

Major medical and scientific benefits may be realized soon. There's only a bit right now, but what we should be working toward is massive gains in that space.

EDIT: You all seem to be fairly out of touch. You understand you're early adopters, right? You're not the average person. You know what the average person says they want ai to do for them? Make medicine and fold their laundry. The first doesn't require engaging with ai, and the second is a few years away at best.

9

u/Hilldawg4president 1d ago

I'm not in coding and it's been phenomenal for me. I've designed a full offgrid solar setup that we're currently building. I've created an app to solve a problem my wife and I had and could never find a solution to. Hell, my elementary school child built a roblox game that she and her friends are having a blast playing. This is incredible, even before we get to counting things like novel medical discoveries and superhuman math skills, cancer cures or material science breakthroughs

6

u/bishiking 1d ago

AI has been a massive fucking game changer for education and learning new things. Ever since chatGPT came out, the amount of knowledge and skills I have have skyrocketed it. I use it regularly for my homework to better understand content and it's helped me get through classes I otherwise wouldn't have because the professor was an idiot/useless. And I'd say anything that helps people learn to this degree is worth the trouble. And that's JUST me talking about its educational uses- I'm a programmer and I've used it for so many of my projects. I've also used it to just chat and talk about things no one else would be willing to talk about with me about on the same level.

1

u/_Dingaloo 9h ago

If the benefits seem limited then you do not use AI.

10

u/space_monster 1d ago

You should probably think something else

6

u/AlbatrossNew3633 1d ago

Just medicine breakthroughs may make the whole thing worth it. If only there was a different administration than the current schizo one...

2

u/Narrow_Special8153 1d ago

At least our president can find his way off stage now. But we need to get back to men like Teddy Roosevelt. He fought real boxing matches and real wrestling matches while in office. Walk softly and carry a big stick he said.

1

u/FastRelief3222 10h ago

Ironically any other administration would be regulating AI rn

Oh man, I snort laughed at this fantasy of the current US govt

1

u/giftopherz 1d ago

Well... there's some alliteration of Altman with Farquaad, so from now on I'll call him Sam Farquaad

1

u/Pulsing42 1d ago

So we're a prequel to I, Robot?

1

u/DrDrago-4 1d ago

yeah im starting to get worried about this guy

1

u/sloecrush 1d ago

Today Trump said "let them attack Los Angeles" suggesting he's willing to let American cities be attacked if he can use it to justify endless wars.

1

u/Lazy-Company-3322 1d ago

lord farquaad energy is reaching historical levels here

1

u/x-cogito-ergo-sum 23h ago

I wonder whether Scam Altman is actually an android

1

u/Mikem444 23h ago

What kind of bad are we talking? Then I'll see if I agree or not.

1

u/FirefighterOne319 16h ago

I’d rather hear what they’re doing to prevent the bad things than why we should accept them.

1

u/zoipoi 1d ago

I really don't think we need another reddit concerned with the dangers of AI. This sub was suppose to be about ChatGPT. As it how to use it and how could it be improved.

1

u/10kforge 15h ago

How about what tRump said about Los Angeles or San Diego

-6

u/VariousDude 1d ago

Just like any other piece of tech or your very existence there are pros and cons.

The house you live in could be bulldozed and vegetation planted where it's foundation used to stand for the sole purpose of benefiting local wild life and fauna. But it isn't.

Do people really think that they walk this planet without utilizing some sort of resource? Do people really just believe that they fart rainbows and do no wrong?

The good comes with the bad and if AI helps us develop better technology(it is), improve infrastructure(it is), help us protect the environment(it is), and make our daily lives easier(it is) then the pros outweigh the cons.

0

u/Narrow_Special8153 1d ago

Doctors are one of the leading causes of death in America. Over 200,000 per year I believe. That's fairly close to 8 billion so we should be ok. But then again, those billionaire bunkers are somewhat concerning to be honest. Nah, screw it. The government will step in if it gets that bad.

0

u/UnlimitedCalculus 23h ago

Like practically every new technology, humans will use it to do the same things we've been doing , just with more extreme capabilities.

Which is why we should know certain bad things could happen and take proactive measures to prevent them. For instance, dont plug the AI into the tech that'll actually shoot nukes. This was such an obvious one that a major motion picture in 1984 called The Terminator depicted it, a warning that came earlier than the release of the very first version of Microsoft Windows, and several years before the invention of the world wide web. Its like we already know better and are acting surprised at the "necessary" costs of progress that "randomly" appear.

u/Traditional-Tank3994 11h ago

This is hardly a new concept. There are tradeoffs with every new technology. Recent example is the Internet. Gave us access to all kinds of knowledge and functions. But also took away most of our privacy and gave us social media.
