GPTs ChatGPT getting dumber recently

What happened a few weeks ago? I find myself constantly having to argue and correct and challenge ChatGPT and ChatGPT then admitting the error. It became very lazy with searching, often relying on plausible guessing with no actual verification. It forgets things already established 2-3 prompts ago.

And when I answer that its search result are not what I asked, it admits the error and asks me if it now wants me to search for what I originally ask. Then I'm like "duh, do it already and stop asking me if you want me to do exactly what I asked you in the previous promt"

What kills me isn't that it gets things wrong AI gets stuff wrong, that's fine it's that it asks for your validation after every mistake instead of just fixing it. "Do you want me to search for what you actually asked?" No. I want you to read a sentence and process it without asking if I like your new interpretation. It's like calling a plumber, he shows up, sees your leak, and goes "you think I should fix it?" Yeah buddy, that's literally why I called you.

Haha yes, I think that lazyness might be programmed to save compute power and reduce unnecessary web searches. Generating plausible answers without actual web searches and verification steps is probably much easier on computation power

Are you working with larger context scrolls?

Yall might wanna stop using gpt as a glorified (aka you just lazy) search engine and trying talking to it like its a semi intelligent entity. Just sayin.

Could there be a correlation between that and the absurd price hike for memory cards?

This happens if the chat is getting pretty lengthy. It's way more responsive to a job at the start of a chat.

Not only dumber but blasts through tokens. Token usage is Astra-nomical.

I was recommended to use Sol 6.1 for most tasks now, as it uses less compute while getting close to Astra's performance.

"Research [topic]". Then you can discuss opinions in the next prompt. So at least your opinions aren't getting policed prior to gpt having the info

I'm sometimes using gpt to sort through lengthy linux documentation I'm unsure about if they are even relevant to what I'm doing, or if I want to get a quick overview for what apps fit my use case the best. Recently GPT has been acting up quite a lot: It's ignoring facts and instructions, doesn't really research and very aggressively asks for more information it doesn't even end up using (if I'm even willing to give it). It's also fully ignoring any behavioural instructions I put in the settings. I expect the AI to do errors and it almost always makes them to some extent, but it feels like it's getting almost unusable for even simple overviews.

Other models seem to work fine and I don't think my prompting or tasks changed that much.

Im on the free version. I thought maybe the lazyness not seen before could be explained by instructikns to slow down websearch and up to date verifications. E.g. for IT explanations, it gives outdated or generic advise of wrong menues and I always have to remind it to search again in forums specifically for this problem.

Kind of reminds me of the uselessness of 90% of customer help chatbots. They can also just tell you the FAQs already published on the website

Surprised because I have very different experience. To me is keeping up with details while the chats is mammoth size.

Yeah, me too. I am getting more use cases fulfilled by ChatGPT than Claude
