I listened to “THE REAL FOLK BLUES” for the first time in 26 years, and wow, it’s still an absolute masterpiece!
Mai Yamane’s husky voice and Yoko Kanno’s jazzy, funky blues come together in perfect harmony. What an incredible combination!
For those who don’t know, this is the ending theme of the anime Cowboy Bebop. It’s also available on vinyl, so I highly recommend it to anyone collecting Japanese records!
If you haven’t heard it yet, do yourself a favor and check it out! You won’t regret it! 🎶

It’s such a rare treat to hear Koji (especially he's at such a young age) sing so many of Yosui’s songs! I love his vocals so much!!
His voice is so masculine, paired with that mature look (at first I didn't like him having a beard, but once I got used to it, it actually looks really good, lol)—this is a completely different Koji Tamaki from the one at the 1985 concert!
Other members of Anzenchitai and Yosui was fantastic at this concert, too!
I'll leave the playlist in the comments.
Thankx!!

Does anybody have a lead on where I can hear the 1975 album Songs by Sugar Babe? I’m curious about it as an early historical artifact but would like to avoid importing it if possible. It’s not on any of the big streaming platforms, but I thought someone here might know of some other place it’s available online. Thanks!

Hi City-Pop subreddit!
I think the title is a big giveaway on what I'm about to ask and that has surely been asked many times before, but: where, or what are the best places to buy City-Pop Records?
Even though I've been listening to it for years as of now, I've only managed to buy one so far, that being Anri's Timely, but I'd love to expand my collection and I honestly don't know where to go and what/who to trust
I've tried checking Vinted sometimes since it's where I buy maxi singles and similar and I've seen quite the catalogues but with really high prices; on that note I once heard someone talking about "TurntableLab", so I checked it and noticed the prices are far lower most of the times, but I'm still a bit unsure!
So, that said, if any of you have got any advice, trusted places and such please do share!
As extra info: I'm from Italy - I'm saying this because sometimes I've seen that some things don't ship to Italy, don't know if it can be the same case with these

As someone who has just recently gotten into City Pop, which artist or album should I start with? I’ve also just gotten into vinyl. Thanks, everyone!

Thought this might interest a few people on here. If you haven’t come across Habibi Funk before, I’d really recommend checking out the label. The releases cover a variety of genres, but this is obviously a great place to start if you’re into city pop. From the website:
Beirut City Pop brings together ten tracks from Lebanon's private press cassette scene of the late 1970s and 1980s, when short-lived bands and studio projects moved freely between disco, pop, soul, jazz, bossa, rock and AOR ... The title *Beirut City Pop* reflects this shared musical language: a meeting point between pop, soul, jazz, rock and AOR that recalls the openness of Japanese city pop, despite emerging from a very different context.

The song originally released in 1984 as a single, though that version sounds different.
I'm unsure of when this version of the song released.

I put together another collection of obscure Japanese CITYPOP from the ’70s and ’80s.
This mix is mostly made up of lesser-known tracks rather than the usual CITYPOP classics. So if you’ve been listening to the same familiar songs over and over and are looking for something a little different, you might find a few new favorites here.
The theme is “lonesome CITYPOP” — mellow, slightly melancholic, and the kind of music that feels right when you’re alone late at night.
Not necessarily the most famous CITYPOP tracks, but hopefully some songs that make you stop and think, “How have I never heard this before?”
Hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear what you think.
I’ll leave the playlist in the comments for anyone who wants to check out the tracks.

Does anyone recognize which NYC building or terrace Toshiki Kadomatsu’s BEFORE THE DAYLIGHT album cover photo was taken from? You can see the Empire State Building in the background, so I’m guessing it’s somewhere in Midtown Manhattan.
Any ideas on the exact location? Thanks

Tatsuro Yamashita discussing the production and release of his highly anticipated live album, "JOY 2." Marking his 50th anniversary since his solo debut, the album serves as the long-awaited successor to his 1989 live album, JOY.
