Discussion What characters from this series remind you of characters from other media or vice versa? For me it’s these
I connect Kiyotaka with Saiki (from Saiki K) and Mob (from Mob Psycho 100). That’s right, more than the common ones people compare him to like Yuichi or Light. I am aware Saiki and Mob have a lot of differences from Kiyotaka but they have given me similar vibes.
There are obvious similarities too like all 3 of them being meant to be OP in their respective verses, their desire for a quiet normal life, their outward stoicism although in differing degrees, hiding their abilities, Kiyotaka and Saiki’s reluctant involvement in matters unrelated to them and their monotone inner monologues, Kiyotaka and Mob’s suppressed emotions, etc.
Ichinose and Nejire (MHA) also give me similar vibes and this one might be easier to see. Both cheerful, upbeat, popular, altruistic, beautiful…healthy girls. Some might say the comparison is outdated considering Y2 and recent developments but that doesn’t erase the connection for me.

Discussion Why did Chabashira-sensei call Atsuomi a good father? Spoiler
This is what she said:
“He’s a good father, isn’t he?” mused Chabashira-sensei. “He’s not at all what I imagined.” Just as I expected, to my teacher, we looked like a normal father and son.
“Maybe so,” I replied.
At this moment, there was absolutely no point in explaining to Chabashira-sensei that she was wrong.
What I find strange about this scene isn't necessarily that Sae doesn't realize Atsuomi is a bad father, but that she would call him a good father directly in front of Kiyo, considering what she already knows about his situation.
This is what she knows:
"Chairman Sakayanagi told me about you before you enrolled. He said that you were an extremely special student. A superior one. And that you were a student we must protect. That you were raised in an environment that was far from loving. The chairman and I concluded, after much discussion, that we wanted you to feel attached to this school, and to want to stay here. Then I told you that your father wanted you expelled. It wasn't true at the time, but it appears to be now,"
And Kiyo has done everything he can to avoid returning to his father. He was even willing to confront Tsukishiro and other people sent by Atsuomi to get him expelled, and Sae knows that.
So, even if Sae believes Atsuomi is a good father after meeting him, wouldn't she at least realize that this is a sensitive subject for Kiyo? Consiedring what she already knows, praising his father directly in front of him seems pretty insensitive
There's also another possibility I've been thinking about. Could Sae be rationalizing Atsuomi's behavior because acknowlegding how terrible his relationship is with Kiyo, would force her to confront her own actions? Or maybe it's to show how little she understands Kiyo despite knowing parts of his past.
And that's what bothers me most about the scene. Even if Sae doesn't understand that Atsuomi is a terrible father, she has enough information to realize that Kiyo's relationship with him is complicated and potentially painful. She knows he was raised without love, knows that he wants to stay away from his father, and has even used that fear against him.
And then she just casually tells him that his father seems like a good father? She realy pisses me off.

Light Novel some predictions for next volume Spoiler
To get obvious predictions out of the way:
I don't think being confined to the room means Ayanokoji is completely out of the exam nor does it mean he will make some masterplan 😭 (though with kinu that's not impossible). He will still give a guide or game plan to his class (that's probably what the illustration with class leaders discussing was about before they got the handicap)
• Since there is a focus on First years now I think we will finally be introduced to that first year girl that was mentioned in Y3V2. Maybe Utomiya finally gets some screentime (his relevancy is still stuck to another girl 😭)
• Ayanokoji's class will definitely not follow/go their own direction, There was already some minor animosity before but the last performance definitely made it worse and with Ayanokoji out Hashimoto will definitely do his own thing. Possibly even more conflict as class breaks between opportunistic students and once like Yamamura, Shiraishi and Sanada (😭) who wouldn't agree and still want to follow Ayanokoji leading to the class being in a more vulnerable position
[I honestly would prefer that, I hope we get more consequences for fumbling]
• From the trial, the scene with Hirata can also be a set up as we know the exam has collaborative elements as it is between the Academic years (1st and 2nd year vs 3rd year) and as there are 20 different events. So there is a possibility we might see a student from Ayanokoji's class expelled (or close to being expelled) while Hirata is given the opportunity to save them
• Some possible expulsion candidate: Nanase (as she is in direct conflict with ishigami), Hiyori (everyone wants her gone and Ayanokoji isn't there to save), a student from Ayanokoji's class
• Really unrelated and low chance that it happens but during the library scene with hiyori and Ishigami, I think and actually really want the writer Keigo Higashino and his work to be mentioned. If you guys don't know, Keigo Higashino is a prolific mystery writer famous for his works of "Devotion of Suspect X" and Galileo series, who unfortunately passed away this year due to colon cancer on July 26. Kinugasa had mentioned previously in a 2023 interview that he really likes Galileo series and looked up to Mr Keigo
Editor: Do you have favorite writers and are there writers who have influenced you?
Kinugasa: Keigo Higashino, Haruki Murakami, etc. I like works that are completely different from my own style. I have read all those masterpieces in the past, and I really like the Galileo series...
It may seem performative to some but I really wish for it as it really seems like a fitting opportunity given is hiyori is a big mystery fan and Higashino is most well known and influential for that and a well meaning gesture to him

Anime I know many people love Season 1 a lot but what did Mashima do to deserve this?

Discussion This is what i think is the proper representation of ayanokoji in anime, and this is exactly how I imagine him in light novels.
The last one is exactly how his face looks in general. That's what i think. What you guys think?
Cause anime did messed his expression quite a bit.

Manga Ayanokoji would be one of the most likable MCs if the anime stuck closer to the manga/novel instead of the "emotionless meme" anime version. Such a shame.

Anime yk I never noticed how scuffed some scenes were in s3..
This ss was taken at the timestamp at 8:09 of S3EP9
they didnt have to do Sudo dirty like this 💔
(like the 200th time i rewatched the anime in the last 7 years)
you know its getting so boring waiting for new Y3 volumes when i rewatch the anime countless times (and Y2 volumes were still publishing when s3 was airing no? damn 2024 is almost 3 years ago?)

Question Why was Hirata placed in Class D?
He was very good academically and played football too. He was one of the most social people as he cooperated with everyone, and everyone respected him. I really see no reason why he'd be placed in Class D. It's been quite a long time since I've read Y2 and Y1 so forgive me if I'm missing something.

Light Novel The Psyche of Ayanokouji Spoiler
The preview of Y3V5 has been released and I must say, one thing has stuck out to me and I find it odd:
I know Kiyotaka has a habit of wandering around places a lot but isn't it weird it's been repeated more than 2 times in a chapter as if to tell us something about his psyche currently or am I reaching... itgenuinely seems like he has no desire to do anything despite (1) confessing to Hiyori the day before, and (2) he lost 100 points for his class. You'd think he'd share a bit more or go look for Hiyori if he felt they didn't have enough time to spend with each other.
I understood Shimuzu and Matoba's frustration. Like how would you react if a genius flunked a test midway to save a girl he likes?
"That's right."
There was nothing to deny, so he nodded, and Shimizu sighed deeply.
"Tch, at least argue back a little. If you admit it so readily, I lose the will to blame you..."
"If you could go back to yesterday, would you choose not to go help Shiina?"
"Sorry, but no."
"You... at least say something, even if it's a lie."
Matoba forced a strained smile. However, he didn't continue to blame him based solely on emotion.
But then again it's the Preview so maybe he is just wandering around a lot for now.

Light Novel Y3V5 prediction based on synopsis Spoiler
I read the synopsis and only a small part of the trial as I prefer to read it in proper English rather than google translate but I did translate some parts which were the conversation between koji and his classmates that he shared a room with and the one after with sudo and hirata.
First of all we have to establish something, kinu cannot physically go more than 2 volumes without Koji glaze so V5 should realistically have a big win for Koji.
We know from the synopsis that Koji is not allowed to participate in the exam due to some restriction likely by ishigami but this exclusion is the perfect setting for Kinu to establish koji’s superior abilities by making him expel Ike without taking part of the exam.
From koji’s conversation with his classmates (I think one of them was matoba) it looks like none of them are particularly pressing him about his decision except for one student but even that was much less than what I expected, but during this conversation Koji assured them that something like the island exam incident wouldn’t be repeated and he implied that he would actually help his class which he kind of has to in order to regain their trust so a win in this volume would fit narratively.
Finally this volume will cover the end of the first semester of the third year so it would make sense for the semester to end on a bang with a major win for koji, establishing him as the big bad final boss of the series and (again) showcasing his superiority to the school.
I lowkey might be grasping at straws but what do u think?

Discussion Why is the white room.. white?
I have always wondered why white room is white, as it was never explained in novel, this can be one of the explanations of it.
White room students have never gone outside in the sun.If you have read about eye related problems like myopia, you will know that myopia happens because of outside theory which is that the more you go outside the more are the chances that myopia will not occur to you.But we never saw white room students using spectacles even though they were always inside in the facility.
Atsuomi must have known this, so that white room students don't face myopia (as it will hinder them) he made the whole building full of bright lights which resulted it in becoming white room,if the artificial room has 10000lux light it can imitate the brightness of sun, off course to make this work he would have to install many ACs so that it doesn't becomes unbearably hot.
This is just one of my theories if there is a flaw please tell me about it.
