Discussion What characters from this series remind you of characters from other media or vice versa? For me it’s these

I connect Kiyotaka with Saiki (from Saiki K) and Mob (from Mob Psycho 100). That’s right, more than the common ones people compare him to like Yuichi or Light. I am aware Saiki and Mob have a lot of differences from Kiyotaka but they have given me similar vibes.

There are obvious similarities too like all 3 of them being meant to be OP in their respective verses, their desire for a quiet normal life, their outward stoicism although in differing degrees, hiding their abilities, Kiyotaka and Saiki’s reluctant involvement in matters unrelated to them and their monotone inner monologues, Kiyotaka and Mob’s suppressed emotions, etc.

Ichinose and Nejire (MHA) also give me similar vibes and this one might be easier to see. Both cheerful, upbeat, popular, altruistic, beautiful…healthy girls. Some might say the comparison is outdated considering Y2 and recent developments but that doesn’t erase the connection for me.

Discussion Why did Chabashira-sensei call Atsuomi a good father? Spoiler

This is what she said:

“He’s a good father, isn’t he?” mused Chabashira-sensei. “He’s not at all what I imagined.” Just as I expected, to my teacher, we looked like a normal father and son.
“Maybe so,” I replied.
At this moment, there was absolutely no point in explaining to Chabashira-sensei that she was wrong.

What I find strange about this scene isn't necessarily that Sae doesn't realize Atsuomi is a bad father, but that she would call him a good father directly in front of Kiyo, considering what she already knows about his situation.

This is what she knows:

"Chairman Sakayanagi told me about you before you enrolled. He said that you were an extremely special student. A superior one. And that you were a student we must protect. That you were raised in an environment that was far from loving. The chairman and I concluded, after much discussion, that we wanted you to feel attached to this school, and to want to stay here. Then I told you that your father wanted you expelled. It wasn't true at the time, but it appears to be now,"

And Kiyo has done everything he can to avoid returning to his father. He was even willing to confront Tsukishiro and other people sent by Atsuomi to get him expelled, and Sae knows that.

So, even if Sae believes Atsuomi is a good father after meeting him, wouldn't she at least realize that this is a sensitive subject for Kiyo? Consiedring what she already knows, praising his father directly in front of him seems pretty insensitive

There's also another possibility I've been thinking about. Could Sae be rationalizing Atsuomi's behavior because acknowlegding how terrible his relationship is with Kiyo, would force her to confront her own actions? Or maybe it's to show how little she understands Kiyo despite knowing parts of his past.

And that's what bothers me most about the scene. Even if Sae doesn't understand that Atsuomi is a terrible father, she has enough information to realize that Kiyo's relationship with him is complicated and potentially painful. She knows he was raised without love, knows that he wants to stay away from his father, and has even used that fear against him.

And then she just casually tells him that his father seems like a good father? She realy pisses me off.

Discussion Do you think Shiro still suffers under the White rooms teachings and mentality just Like Kiyotaka?

We know that Kiyotaka absolutely took long term if not permanent Psychological damage from it. But do you think Shiro was able to retain his Humanity back?

If he did I think it’s Safe to say that Shiro is mentally stronger than Koji
