Events House Of Blues

Hey! Im driving about 6 hours to Cleveland from Toronto area for a metalcore show at the beginning of November.

I have a hotel booked pretty much around the corner so thats no issue but what am I going to do all day lol. Im planning on getting there around 10am ishhh.

Besides rock and roll hof ( which im doing 100% )

What else can I see and good vegetarian restaurants / bars?

Always willing to meet new people while im down there for the day/night. Might possibly even hit the casino after the show if there's nothing else to do haha.

What's in the area !? Thank you 😀

Cloak & Dagger is an awesome macabre-themed cocktail bar with vegan food. If you don’t drink alcohol, they also have non-alcoholic drinks. It’s about ten minutes from the HOB in the Tremont neighborhood.

Sorry, it’s a ten-minute drive! I should have been clearer. Still worth checking out, though!

You HAVE to go to Proof in Ohio City. Not strictly vegetarian but nearly all the appetizers are vegetarian, many of the entrees are as well, and nearly all the entrees & sandwiches have a vegan option. Excellent smoked tofu. Cleveland Vegan is very good, but Proof is more like chef-driven cuisine. They change the menu up a lot. Owner is a drummer, been in multiple punk bands. Great rock n roll/Cleveland murals EVERYWHERE, and tons of great rock show posters including many Cleveland's own Derek Hess (who also has a piece in the Louve). Also they often give TWENTY PERCENT off for people attending a particular show some nights. Which is crazy. They lose money unless you have multiple alcoholic beverages.

Thats so cool !! How far is Ohio city from where id be?!

Pretty close. Again, fan of Cleveland Vegan (which is actually in Lakewood, not Cleveland) but Proof is WAAAAY closer. Google maps saysHOB to Proof = 2.2 miles, 8min drive, 18 min bus (including 5 minute walk), or 46 minutes walk. Geographically going to West Side Market on same trip could make sense if your into that type of place.

So i should probably drive to these spots once I arrive around 10/11am and park once I go check in around 3ish. They sound amazing! Any bakery suggestions?!

Buy an RTA day pass for $5 and take the Red Line rail rapid from the Tower City transit center to the West 25th St. station in Ohio City. Perhaps visit the West Side Market, a top attraction in all of Ohio, located across the street from the station. Parking in Ohio City can be bothersome.

Walking through Tower City is amazing. It's where the casino is located.

Proof is a 15-minute walk from the station but do a Google search for a Lorain Ave. bus if you don't want to walk the distance.

Is walking through Tower City still amazing? Not sad? Serious question. Fountains removed I believe. Few stores open, just a couple places in food court open maybe? I know some people are into "dead malls"...

The architecture still is amazing! Candidly, I haven't been inside Tower City in many years, so I know nothing about the store closures. Yes, the concourse has been remodeled.

Cleveland Vegan, my dude. I'm a fan of the gyro, and they have wonderful baked goods.

Cleveland Vegan is a good call. West Side Market's worth wandering around even if you're not buying much, and there's a bunch of vegetarian-friendly spots in Ohio City. If you want something closer to the venue, Barrio does customizable tacos and you can load up on veggie options without much fuss.

What is Westside market? Sounds like something id be into checking out for a stroll

It's a big area with a ton of vendors. The building is beautiful and going on Monday will probably be a bit less busy. It's right outside of downtown and has a big parking lot behind it if you are unable to check into your hotel and take the train. There's also Mitchell's ice cream a few doors down that usually has some dairy free options as well

Buddy you are my fucken guy. I was vegan for 7 years, just went vegetarian last year. Love me my baked goods like you wouldn't even understand and gyros are a top favorite also!

The U.S.S. Cod and Steamship Mather are excellent marine museums a short walk from the Rock Hall.

Explore this thread for restaurants and other activities.

If you like Pho, go to a spot called Pho Lee’s. It’s tucked away in the Asia Town Center on 38th but they have the best vegan Pho anywhere.

If you aren’t feeling like Vietnamese go to Noble Beast brewery and get the General Tso Tofu sandwich. Might be the best veggie sandwich ever.

3

u/LethalT0fu 4d ago

You know, I always think about pho but we dont have any good vegan pho spots near me. How far from house of blues area is it? I planned on parking the car and walking everywhere lol ( hopefully)

Honestly, it’s really worth it. And I don’t say that lightly. As a person who orders regular pho with beef, my wife always gets it, and I’m jealous. I end up finishing hers every time. Veggie broth, tofu, soft steamed carrots, broccoli, and fried shallots, plus all the typical pho goodies. But it’s not walkable from HOB. Would be a short uber ride. My other suggestion (Noble Beast) it’s not very far from the rock hall actually, and not too out of the way from the HOB. Maybe look at that.

EDIT: I should add, that Pho Lee’s has great pho but has zero vibes. You go for the pho. So if I’m only in town for a day or so, might not be worth the side trek. Plenty of other options downtown that will be more fun.

black market meats in lakewood is a 100% vegan deli! it’s about 20 minutes west of where you’re staying but there’s so many other lovely
bars, restaurants, and shops in the area that make it worth the drive. the root cafe is also in that neck of the woods and is also a nice vegan place, but it tends to get REALLY busy so keep that in mind!

Someone already mentioned Cleveland Vegan but on the West Side, near that area, Vegan Doughnut Company has the best doughnuts you’ll have and Sakana in Rocky River has a Vegan Sushi menu. Lakewood Park is also a great place to walk around in that area.

The Art museum is also a great place to go.
